  23.    1. The X-WinPro 5.1/Release:990907 Installation
  24.    ================================================
  25.  
  26. To install the package, run the "xwp32.exe" file.
  27.  
  28. 1.1 How to install and uninstall the XWPNFS32/Win95 NFS Client
  29. ---------------------------------------------------------------
  30. To install NFS Client:
  31.  
  32. 1) the XWPNFS32 Client may be installed only using the 
  33.    "Custom" installation type.
  34. 2) XWPNFS32 Client cannot be installed/used yet under Windows NT;
  35.  
  36.  
  37.    2. Major differences from 5.1/Release:990518 version
  38.    =====================================================
  39.  
  40. 2.1. The following enhancements have been made:
  41.  
  42.   2.1.1. XServer:
  43.      - XServer/Multiple processes X-Client's and MS Windows' windows
  44.        separately. Because of this, the start time of the first X-Client
  45.        is significantly decreased;
  46.      - Improved the XDMCP broadcast mode, so the usual broadcast
  47.        address can be used to query all XDMCP daemons of LAN
  48.        (see also the "Undocumented features"/XSettings below);
  49.      - Implemented the "EVI" and "SECURITY" Extensions;
  50.      - the "Fonts..." facility of XServer control menu provides
  51.        the processing of remote FontServer;
  52.      - the "WM_COLORMAP_WINDOWS","WM_TAKE_FOCUS" and "WM_SAVE_YOURSELF"
  53.        atoms are now defined when XServer starts;
  54.      - the "WM_ICON_SIZE" root window's property was set earlier
  55.        in "Multiple" mode to supply X-Clients with recommended
  56.        size of icons. Unfortunately, the "arcview" X-Client crashed
  57.        in "Multiple" mode because of wrong processing of this setting.
  58.        From current release, XServer stops to set the mentioned property;
  59.      - the "WM_STATE" property are supported in "Multiple" mode.
  60.        Some X-clients (e.g. "JCC") could not work without it;
  61.      - The "SHAPE" Extension was implemented in "Multiple" mode.
  62.        Now the Linux 6.0 GDM can work with XServer/Multiple;
  63.      - XServer can now work on multi-monitors PCs;
  64.      - mouse wheel's rotation is processed by XServer and translated
  65.        to "Button4" and "Button5" press/release X-events
  66.        (see also the "Undocumented features"/XServer below).
  67.  
  68.   2.1.2. XStartup:
  69.      - Added the "$(DISPLAYNUMBER)" macro-substitution of XServer
  70.        Display Number;
  71.      - the "Don't Start Xserver" setting is now available
  72.        in the "Save Startup Job As" dialog box to control
  73.        the necessity to run XServer when Startup Job is launched.
  74.  
  75.   2.1.3. NFS-Client:
  76.     - may work on a multi-home PC with a few IP addresses.
  77.  
  78.  
  79. 2.2. The following bugs have been fixed:
  80.  
  81.   2.2.1. XServer:
  82.      - XServer in Multiple mode positioned all initially started
  83.        CDE windows at (0,0) screen point;
  84.      - XServer in Multiple mode might show unexpected "cannot open
  85.        clipboard" messages after focus switching between windows;
  86.      - XServer in Single/Full screen mode sometimes
  87.        did not refresh correctly small regions of its window
  88.        and you might see small "white rectangles";
  89.      - XServer might crash sometimes because of incorrect
  90.        FontServer's packages processing;
  91.  
  92.   2.2.2. Telnet:
  93.     - Fixed the incorrect change of the "AutoWrap" setting after
  94.       the "AT386" type choice.
  95.  
  96.   2.2.3. Ftp:
  97.     - Fixed the incorrect files list display for some "VMS"-type hosts;
  98.  
  99.   2.2.4. NFS-Server:
  100.     - Fixed the incorrect processing of files with the "444" protection mask;
  101.     - Fixed the incorrect calculation of large drives' volumes ( > 2GB);
  102.     - Fixed the incorrect processing of large files' volumes ( > 2GB).
  103.  
  104.   2.2.5. NFS-Client:
  105.     - NFS-Client might crash in some Win98 versions;
  106.     - Fixed the incorrect R/W positioning outside a file.
  107.  
  108.  
  109.    3. Major differences from the 5.0/Release:981208 version
  110.    ========================================================
  111.  
  112. 3.1. The following enhancements have been made:
  113.  
  114. 3.1.1. XServer:
  115. - the X11R6.4 release was implemented, only one new Extension
  116.   ("LBX") yet was implemented;
  117. - the new "Multiple+remoteWM" mode is implemented.
  118.   It is the old "Multiple" mode, but local Windows window manager
  119.   does not control windows of X-clients and user must run
  120.   any suitable remote window manager. This mode is very convenient 
  121.   when user uses CDE-like interface where remote window manager 
  122.   provides its own tool/task bar;
  123. - additional "7x13euro" and "7x13eurB" fonts were added in "MISC"
  124.   fontset to provide for displaying the new "Euro" currency sign showing;
  125. - the host chooser dialog was implemented for the XDMCP broadcast mode;
  126. - some X-clients (e.g. ICQ/JAVA with JDK 1.1) start input/output
  127.   from/to its windows only after receiving the "ReparentWindow" X-event
  128.   (which is the result of typical Unix window manager activity).
  129.   Earlier XServer did not make such an action in the "Multiple" mode,
  130.   so all windows of some X-clients were empty;
  131. - the "_MOTIF_WM_HINTS" window property is processed now.
  132.   Earlier some X-clients (e.g. ImageMagic/Linux) might work incorrectly,
  133.   have incorrect view and/or fully "hang-up" the X-session;
  134. - the wait timeout of "Middle Button Emulation" mode is tunable now;
  135. - since some Windows 95 TCP/IP stacks (e.g. "Microsoft wsock32.dll,
  136.   ver2.2, 32bit of Jun 6 1997, at 14:08:43") provide wrong processing
  137.   of the standard "select()" non-wait request, so using of mentioned
  138.   "select()" WinSock API request was removed;
  139. - the immediate "link" between Windows clipboard and current XSelection
  140.   was implemented;
  141. - the recommended "Alt_R+E" combination was inserted into the main part of
  142.   kmf-files to provide for the possibility to input the Euro currency sign;
  143. - XServer provides German and/or French messages and text labels
  144.   under the corresponding Windows national version.
  145. - XServer can now work in new MSB(MostSignificant Byte/Bit)-first mode.
  146.   This MSB mode is actual for X-clients which incorrectly use
  147.   XPutImage/XGetImage X-operations (e.g. the viewer of CDE/SunSolaris
  148.   startup picture).
  149.  
  150. 3.1.2. XStartup:
  151. - some improvements were made.
  152.  
  153. 3.1.3. NFS-Server:
  154. - corresponding hostnames are shown additionally to  
  155.   IP addresses of actual NFS-Clients;
  156. - NFS-Server provides German and/or French messages and text labels
  157.   under the corresponding Windows national version.
  158.  
  159. 3.1.4. Telnet:
  160. - some improvements were made (including some changes in the 
  161.   "terminfo.ini" file).
  162.  
  163. 3.1.5. Ftp:
  164. - the "VMS" remote host type is processed correctly, the 
  165.   "Show hidden files" setting controls showing VMS file versions.
  166.  
  167. 3.1.6. NFS-Client:
  168. - NFS-Client is installed by using the same Installation procedure 
  169.   without necessity to use "xwpnfs32.inf" file and "Control Panel";
  170. - corresponding hostnames are shown additionally
  171.   to IP addresses of NFS-Servers. This feature is controlled 
  172.   by corresponding On/Off setting to prevent timeouts 
  173.   because of possible DNS accessibility problems;
  174. - NFS-Clients might work incorrectly with non-mapped disks 
  175.   under Windows95/OSR2;
  176. - the "NFS-Servers list" was implemented additionally to the broadcast 
  177.   method of locating remote NFS-Servers. This list is the only 
  178.   way to connect NFS-Server which is out of the LAN (i.e. "old-style" 
  179.   broadcast method could not provide the visibility of such servers);
  180.  
  181. 3.1.7. Lpd:
  182. - Lpd now can process print jobs with primaryly undefined data length
  183.   (the length field is 0 in description of the input data file);
  184. - Lpd provides German and/or French messages and text labels
  185.   under the corresponding Windows national version.
  186.  
  187. 3.2. The following bugs have been fixed:
  188.  
  189. 3.2.1. XServer:
  190. - XServer in Multiple mode worked incorrectly with CDE/Solaris-7;
  191. - the message "Cannot create XWPserver class" might occur in 
  192.   XServer's start moment;
  193. - XServer in Multiple mode showed incorrectly color icons of X-clients;
  194.  
  195. 3.2.2. XStartup:
  196. - a password with the 'P'("capital P") letter at the first and last 
  197.   places was saved wrongly;
  198.  
  199. 3.2.3. NFS-Server:
  200. - NFS-Server provided 100% CPU usage;
  201. - NFS-Server crashed after receiving of the "CALLIT" request.
  202.   This request is the result of Unix "rup","rwho" or "rusers" commands;
  203. - the memory leaking (after each "ls -R" Unix command) was fixed;
  204.  
  205. 3.2.4. Telnet:
  206. - some bugs were fixed (including wrong cursor positioning in some cases);
  207.  
  208.  
  209.    4. Major differences 5.0/Release:981208 from 4.3/Release:980730 version
  210.    =======================================================================
  211.  
  212. 4.1. The following enhancements have been made:
  213.  
  214.   4.1.1. The NFS-Client/Win95 was implemented.
  215.  
  216.   4.1.2. XServer:
  217.      - the max.integral length of the "FontPath" items was enlarged
  218.        from 250 to 2040 symbols;
  219.      - the "HP-Roman8" fontset was added in the package;
  220.      - the "TrueColor" (16 and/or 24 bits per pixel) Visual
  221.        was implemented;
  222.      - the last chosen XSelection name is preserved as the current
  223.        one for using in next X-sessions;
  224.      - the renovated "olcursor" font was changed in "MISC" fontset to prevent
  225.        the "imagetool" crash because of absence a few cursor fonts;
  226.      - the renovated "CDE" and new "OPWN" fontsets were added to supply
  227.        some CDE programs and JAVA applets with necessary correct fonts;
  228.  
  229.   4.1.3. XStartup:
  230.      - the absolutely new outlook was implemented.
  231.  
  232.   4.1.4. NFS-Server:
  233.      - the 32K maximum data size (for NFS-3 protocol) was implemented;
  234.      - the correct refreshing of files/directories cache was implemented;
  235.  
  236.   4.1.5. Ftp:
  237.      - the "VM/CMS" remote host type was added;
  238.  
  239.   4.1.6. Comsetup:
  240.      - the "TCP/IP Info" feature was added to test the accessibility
  241.        and to obtain a description of the used TCP/IP stack;
  242.      - the "Use First IP address" and "Use Last IP address" settings
  243.        were added to automatically choose the local IP address
  244.        if your PC has a few IP addresses (i.e. "multi-home" PC);
  245.  
  246.   4.1.7. Telnet:
  247.      - the Telnet buffer was significantly enlarged to provide
  248.        for correct "Paste" actions.
  249.  
  250.  
  251. 4.2. The following bugs have been fixed:
  252.  
  253.   4.2.1. XServer:
  254.      - the "Infinite Loop" message might occur in "Multiple"
  255.        window mode (e.g. using the "dtmail" program);
  256.      - the "AltGR+key" Composers were processed incorrectly;
  257.      - the "Copy XSelection" was blocked after XServer reset;
  258.      - the "KEY40" was corrected in the "danish.kmf" and "norvegia.kmf"
  259.        keyboard mapping files;
  260.      - the resizing/dragging in "Multiple" window mode of X-client's
  261.        windows was invisible up to release the mouse button
  262.        (if MS Windows video driver was in "Show window contents while dragging"
  263.        mode );
  264.      - the "... error refcount..." message might occur after
  265.        XServer+CDE reset;
  266.      - the XServer might crash during the choosing of the "Fonts..."
  267.        facility if a FontServer was in XServer FontPath;
  268.      - some CDE X-Clients wrongly viewed PseudoFonts because of
  269.        partially incorrect description of producing characters.
  270.  
  271.   4.2.2. NFS-Server:
  272.      - some problem with files permissions were resolved.
  273.  
  274.   4.2.3. Telnet:
  275.      - the incorrect "Copy" from the bottom line of Telnet window
  276.        was fixed.
  277.  
  278.   4.2.4. Ftp:
  279.      - a few bugs (including the incorrect show of more than 2000 year)
  280.        were fixed.
  281.  
  282.  
  283.       5. Undocumented Features
  284.     ------------------------
  285.  
  286.   5.1. XServer and XSettings:
  287.      - the "Silent Bell" setting was implemented to block all sounds
  288.        (internal sounds and X-protocol XBell requests);
  289.      - the "Block KeySyms Changing" and "Block Modifiers Changing" settings
  290.        were implemented to block the external change of XServer keyboard
  291.        mapping (e.g. via "xmodmap..." utility);
  292.      - the new "Multiple+remoteWM" item was added to "Window Mode List"
  293.        of "Startup" XSettings box;
  294.      - the recommended "Alt_R+E" combination was inserted into the following
  295.        kmf-files to provide the possibility to input the Euro currency sign :
  296.        "us15.kmf","danish.kmf","belgian.kmf","decemfrc.kmf","decemfr.kmf",
  297.        "decemgr.kmf","decemuk.kmf","dutch.kmf","frencan.kmf","french.kmf",
  298.        "german.kmf","italian.kmf","latinam.kmf","norwegia.kmf","portugue.kmf",
  299.        "spanish.kmf","swedfinn.kmf","swedish.kmf","swissfre.kmf",
  300.        "swissger.kmf","uk102.kmf" and "uk102m.kmf".
  301.        The "us.kmf" file was copied as the "us15.kmf" file, in which
  302.        the "Alt_R" key description was changed from "XK_Alt_R" to
  303.        "XK_Mode_switch".
  304.        The "msus.kmf","uk101.kmf","decemus.kmf","userkbd.kmf","us.kmf",
  305.        "dvorak.kmf" and "jpn106.kmf" files were not changed and do not
  306.        provide the "Alt_R+E" input;
  307.      - the XSettings dialog contains the "X depth (bits per pixel)" box,
  308.        that allows to choose XServer visual mode: 8,16,24 bits per pixel.
  309.        The "Auto" setting provides using of the current Windows video setting.
  310.      - the empty, or "255.255.255.255" or "0.0.0.0" contents
  311.        of the "Broadcast File" field provides now the "natural"
  312.        XDMCP broadcast mode when users need not fill in any file
  313.        (see also the "The following enhancements have been made"/XServer
  314.        above).
  315.  
  316.   5.2. XServer:
  317.      - the "iniRunTelnet=1","iniRunXSettings=1","iniRunFtp=1",
  318.        "iniRunLpr=1","iniRunXStartup=1" and/or "iniRunPing=1" items
  319.        may be added to the "[XSETUP]" section of the ini-file to automatically
  320.        start the corresponding program(s) when the XServer starts;
  321.      - the "XTcpPort=" item may be inserted into the "[XSETUP]" section
  322.        to change the default (6000) XServer port number;
  323.      - the "QuickTermination=1" item may be inserted into the "[XSETUP]" section
  324.        to prevent the confirmation message on closing of X-session;
  325.      - the "BroadcastConnectFirstAnswer=1" item may be inserted into the "[XSETUP]"
  326.        section to provide "old-style" way of using of the XDMCP broadcast mode;
  327.      - the "MiddleButtonTimeout=..." item may be inserted into the "[XSETUP]"
  328.        section to set (in msec) the value of "MiddleButton" wait timeout;
  329.      - the "UseUsualSelect=1" item may be inserted into the "[XSETUP]"
  330.        section to provide "old-style" using of the "select()" WinSock API request;
  331.      - the "ConnectXWClipboards=0" item may be inserted into the "[XSETUP]"
  332.        section to provide "old-style" way of using the Windows clipboard
  333.        and current XSelection (i.e. no immediate link between Windows
  334.        clipboard and current XSelection);
  335.      - the "Options"->"Move window to (0,0)" menu item was implemented
  336.        in the XServer/Multiple Control menu to supply users with possibility
  337.        to move any window to left-top part of the Windows screen. This feature
  338.        is useful to see an invisible window (which is out of visible screen);
  339.      - the "MultiRWMbgroundWin=1" item may be inserted into the "[XSETUP]"
  340.        section to allow remote window manager background displaying
  341.        if window manager provides it (e.g. "olwm" - does not provide,
  342.        but "dtwm" - does). Such a background window is suppressed
  343.        by default because it covers all non-X windows. This setting has
  344.        meaning in the XServer's "Multiple+remoteWM" mode;
  345.      - the "Restore"/"Minimize" menu items of XServer in "Multiple+remoteWM"
  346.        mode provides "visibility" of XServer's background into additional
  347.        non-large window. This "background" may be used to provide control
  348.        functionality of windows manager used (usually it is pressing on
  349.        mouse-buttons);
  350.      - the "XServerIsMSB=1" item may be inserted into the "[XSETUP]"
  351.        section to set XServer's imageByte- and bitmapBit- orders in
  352.        MSB(MostSignificant Byte/Bit)-first mode for X-clients from
  353.        MSB-machines (such as Sun-stations). X-clients from
  354.        LSB(LeastSignificant Byte/Bit)-first machines (such as Intel-platphorm
  355.        PCs) will still work in LSB mode. The "XServerIsMSB=2" setting
  356.        sets the mode when all X-clients must work with XServer in MSB mode.
  357.        These settings are actual for X-clients which incorrectly use
  358.        XPutImage/XGetImage X-operations (e.g. the viewer of CDE/SunSolaris
  359.        startup picture).
  360.      - the "TerminateAtLastXClientClose=1"
  361.        may be added into the "[XSETUP]" section of the ini-file to automatically
  362.        terminate the XServer after the last X-Client closes its session;
  363.      - the "FSReadTimeout="
  364.        may be added into the "[XSETUP]" section of the ini-file to change
  365.        the default FontServer timeout value (60 sec).
  366.        E.g. "FSReadTimeout=120" - sets the timeout to 120 sec;
  367.      - the "LocalRefreshAtStoreColors=1"
  368.        may be added into the "[XSETUP]" section of the ini-file to set
  369.        the immediate refresh of screen after any color cell
  370.        of active colormap is changed. Be ready that this setting
  371.        significantly slows down XServer's performance;
  372.      - the "EnableWM_MOUSEWHEEL=1" and "EnableMSWHEEL_ROLLMSG=1" lines
  373.        must be added into the "[XSETUP]" section of the ini-file to set
  374.        the mouse wheel's rotation processing by XServer.
  375.        (see also the "The following enhancements have been made"/XServer
  376.        above);
  377.       
  378.      Note that mouse wheels do not take effect in the non-maximized
  379.        "Single" mode.
  380.  
  381.   5.3. Telnet:
  382.      - the telnet.exe may be run with the "hostname" parameter
  383.        to avoid the necessity to enter the hostname interactively;
  384.  
  385.   5.4. XStartup:
  386.      - the processing of the "Command" and "Command File" fields
  387.        is more clear now.
  388.  
  389.   5.5. NFS-Server:
  390.      - the "UseAttributesCache=0"
  391.        may be added into the "[NFSSERVER]" section of the ini-file
  392.        to let you change any once mounted removable drives
  393.        (like CD, floppy...). Be ready that this setting
  394.        decreases the NFS connection's performance.
  395.  
  396.   5.6. XWPNFS32 Client:
  397.      - may be installed manually after X-WinPro installation
  398.        from "XWPNFS32.W95" subdirectory of installed X-WinPro directory
  399.        (see "XWPNFS32.W95\readme" text file for more information);
  400.      - the "NFS-Servers list" was implemented additionally to the broadcast
  401.        method of locating remote NFS-Servers. This list may be edited
  402.        from the "Property" of the "XWPNFS32..." Windows Network client.
  403.  
  404.  
  405.         6. Known problems
  406.         ------------------
  407.  
  408.   6.1. XServer:
  409.      - drawing of partial arcs may be very slow ;
  410.      - the CDE/XDMCP of the HP-UX host may provide infinite
  411.        waiting for connection. To avoid this, the new "HP" fonts
  412.        alias directory would be included into the XServer FontPath;
  413.      - the "Forced Backing Store" setting may provide wrong
  414.        screen re-displaying in some cases (e.g. Netscape scrolling).
  415.  
  416.   6.2. Lpd:
  417.      - printers on the remote Windows NT 4 hosts
  418.        are unavailable from the local host with Windows NT 4 .
  419.  
  420.   6.3. NFS-Server:
  421.      - may have problems on a PC with a few IP addresses.
  422.  
  423.   6.4. NFS-Client/Win95:
  424.      - the PC must be restarted after you change the license
  425.        "xwpdllid.dll" file.
  426.  
  427.   6.5. Uninstallation:
  428.      - uninstallation procedure does not remove components
  429.        which were installed in additional (non-first) installation
  430.        sessions. Such additional components must be removed manually.
  431.

  473.     8. ORDERING X-WINPRO
  474.     ---------------------

  476. There are a number of ways to order X-WinPro from us. Whatever
  477. method you choose, your order must be accompanied by an Order
  478. Form. When we receive your payment, we will email you license 
  479. files with the installation instructions. 
  480.  
  481. CREDIT CARD
  482. We accept VISA, MasterCard, EuroCard and OKCard. For credit 
  483. card orders we recommend using our secure web order form 
  484. located at http://www.labf.com or alternatively sending the 
  485. details by fax to +358 3 260 4444.

  487. If you are using e-mail or a fax modem, a signature is not
  488. required on the Order Form.
  489.  
  490. CHECK
  491. You can post us a check drawn on any bank in the world, in that
  492. country's currency. The amount should be equivalent to the
  493. price in US$. The check should be made out to Labtam Finland Ltd. 
  494. Please always remember to attach the order form.

  497. INTERNATIONAL MONEY ORDER/BANK DRAFT
  498. These are normally available from banks or Post Offices. The
  499. draft should be payable to Labtam Finland Ltd. The currency of
  500. the draft should be Finnish Marks, and the amount of the draft
  501. should be the equivalent in FIM of the price in US$. Please 
  502. always remember to attach the order form.
