Before installing, if you have a previous version of
KB-Master and wish to install KB-Master in that same
directory, you must uninstall the previous version. This
includes ALL PATCHES OR BETA VERSIONS.

Follow these steps to install KB-Master:
- Go to the folder where you downloaded KB-Master and run the executable
(KBM25.EXE or KBM25TE.EXE)
- Follow the installation wizard prompts to complete the installation
- Proceed as follows...
ADMINISTRATOR(S)
- Start the Administrator Assistant.
- Select the Database Administration option. Then click "Create New Datab
ase".
- Press the "Launch Database Wizard" button.
- Follow the wizard steps to create your database and begin using KB-Mast
er
- Once you make this database accessible for your users, notify them of t
he database location.
END USERS(S)
- After installation, start the KB-Master Knowledge Explorer from the STA
RT MENU
location that you selected during installation
- You will see a EVALUATION screen. Press the TRY button to begin KB-Mast
er.
- Complete the logon profile (this is a one-time form)
- Contact your administrator for the central database location.
- At the "Getting Started" dialog, choose MORE FILES and then select the
location of the central database

5 Converting version 2.0 databases

KBM 2.0 Databases are Not Compatible with this version

The database format has been changed with this release
of KB-Master. However, we have provided a conversion
utility which will upgrade existing databases to the
new open format.
Instructions for Converting Your Databases
- Go to Altaris Systems > KB-Master program group
- Run the "Convert 2.0 Database" utility
- Follow the instructions to upgrade the database.
- You can now open the converted database in KB-Master 2.5
- All converted articles appear in the "Converted Articles" folder

To remove KB-Master from your computer:
Open the Control Panel folder, and double-click the
Add/Remove Programs icon. Select KB-Master from the list
displayed, then click the Add/Remove button. Follow the
instructions that appear on the screen.
After the application has been removed, you may manually
need to remove the directory in which KB-Master was
installed (including the directory contents).

7. WHAT'S NEW

- Improved Interface: Based on user feedback we have
redesigned the interface to make it easier to access the
various KB-Master features.
- Knowledge Explorer: This is the new database viewer.
- Administrator Assistant: All administrative functions
have been moved to this utility. This gives administrators
greater control over databases.
- Full Preview: Now articles can be viewed without needing
to open the Article Editor. All available processing
options (Print, Email, Import/Export, Open Attachments)
are available right from the Main Workspace.
- WYSIWYG Export: Now articles can be printed and exported
with the same formatting that you see in the Knowledge
Explorer.
- WYSIWYG Printing and Print Preview: We incorporated a
new print engine to allow you to print articles just as
they appear in the Article Editor.
- New Open Database Format: Administrators can now use
Microsoft Access, Crystal Reports or other tools to
report on KB-Master databases.
- Conversion Utility: Allows you to convert version 2.0
databases to new 2.5 format.
- Speed improvements.
- Various bug fixes
- Other enhancements.

8. KNOWN ISSUES
------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Print Preview Speed: Due to limitations of the Microsoft
RichEdit Dynamic Link Library (RICHED32.DLL), the speed
of the Print Preview rendering engine cannot be increased.
- Import Database Wizard: Potential problems with duplicate
records. This problem is under investigation.

END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR ALTARIS SYSTEMS KB-MASTER
IMPORTANT-READ CAREFULLY:
This Altaris Systems End-User License Agreement ("EULA") is a legal agree
ment between you (either an individual or a single entity) and Altaris Sy
stems for the Altaris Systems software product identified above, which i
ncludes computer software and may include associated media, printed mater
ials, and "online" or electronic documentation ("SOFTWARE PRODUCT"). By i
nstalling, copying, or otherwise using the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, you agree to
be bound by the terms of this EULA. If you do not agree to the terms of
this EULA, do not install or use the SOFTWARE PRODUCT; you may, however,
return it to your place of purchase for a full refund.
SOFTWARE PRODUCT LICENSE
The SOFTWARE PRODUCT is protected by copyright laws and international cop
yright treaties, as well as other intellectual property laws and treaties
. The SOFTWARE PRODUCT is licensed, not sold.
1. GRANT OF LICENSE. This EULA grants you the following rights:
- Applications Software. You may install and use one copy of the SOFTWARE
PRODUCT, or any prior version for the same operating system, on a single
computer. The primary user of the computer on which the SOFTWARE PRODUCT
is installed may make a second copy for his or her exclusive use on a po
rtable computer.
- Storage/Network Use. You may also store or install a copy of the SOFTWA
RE PRODUCT on a storage device, such as a network server, used only to in
stall or run the SOFTWARE PRODUCT on your other computers over an interna
l network; however, you must acquire and dedicate a license for each sepa
rate computer on which the SOFTWARE PRODUCT is installed or run from the
storage device. A license for the SOFTWARE PRODUCT may not be shared or u
sed concurrently on different computers.
- License Pack. If you have acquired this EULA in a Altaris Systems Licen
se Pack, you may make the number of additional copies of the computer sof
tware portion of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT authorized on the printed copy of t
his EULA, and you may use each copy in the manner specified above. You ar
e also entitled to make a corresponding number of secondary copies for p
ortable computer use as specified above.
2. DESCRIPTION OF OTHER RIGHTS AND LIMITATIONS.
- Academic Edition Software. If the SOFTWARE PRODUCT is identified as "Ac
ademic Edition" or "AE," you must be a "Qualified Educational User" to us
e the SOFTWARE PRODUCT. If you are not a Qualified Educational User, you
have no rights under this EULA. To determine whether you are a Qualified
Educational User, please contact the Altaris Systems Sales Information Ce
nter/2608 Abbott Road Suite E2, Midland MI 48642 USA or the Altaris Syste
ms subsidiary serving your country.
- Not for Resale Software. If the SOFTWARE PRODUCT is labeled "Not for Re
sale" or "NFR," then, notwithstanding other sections of this EULA, you ma
y not resell, or otherwise transfer for value, the SOFTWARE PRODUCT.
- Limitations on Reverse Engineering, Decompilation, and Disassembly. You
may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the SOFTWARE PRODUCT
, except and only to the extent that such activity is expressly permitted
by applicable law notwithstanding this limitation.
- Separation of Components. The SOFTWARE PRODUCT is licensed as a single
product. Its component parts may not be separated for use on more than on
e computer.
- Rental. You may not rent, lease, or lend the SOFTWARE PRODUCT.
- Support Services. Altaris Systems may provide you with support services
related to the SOFTWARE PRODUCT ("Support Services"). Use of Support Ser
vices is governed by the Altaris Systems policies and programs described
in the user manual, in "online" documentation, and/or in other Altaris Sy
stems-provided materials. Any supplemental software code provided to you
as part of the Support Services shall be considered part of the SOFTWARE
PRODUCT and subject to the terms and conditions of this EULA. With respec
t to technical information you provide to Altaris Systems as part of the
Support Services, Altaris Systems may use such information for its busine
ss purposes, including for product support and development. Altaris Syste
ms will not utilize such technical information in a form that personally
identifies you.
- Software Transfer. You may permanently transfer all of your rights unde
r this EULA, provided you retain no copies, you transfer all of the SOFTW
ARE PRODUCT (including all component parts, the media and printed materia
ls, any upgrades, this EULA, and, if applicable, the Certificate of Authe
nticity), and the recipient agrees to the terms of this EULA. If the SOFT
WARE PRODUCT is an upgrade, any transfer must include all prior versions
of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT.
- Termination. Without prejudice to any other rights, Altaris Systems may
terminate this EULA if you fail to comply with the terms and conditions
of this EULA. In such event, you must destroy all copies of the SOFTWARE
PRODUCT and all of its component parts.
3. UPGRADES. If the SOFTWARE PRODUCT is labeled as an upgrade, you must b
e properly licensed to use a product identified by Altaris Systems as bei
ng eligible for the upgrade in order to use the SOFTWARE PRODUCT. A SOFTW
ARE PRODUCT labeled as an upgrade replaces and/or supplements the product
that formed the basis for your eligibility for the upgrade. You may use
the resulting upgraded product only in accordance with the terms of this
EULA. If the SOFTWARE PRODUCT is an upgrade of a component of a package
of software programs that you licensed as a single product, the SOFTWARE
PRODUCT may be used and transferred only as part of that single product p
ackage and may not be separated for use on more than one computer.
4. COPYRIGHT. All title and copyrights in and to the SOFTWARE PRODUCT (in
cluding but not limited to any images, photographs, animations, video, au
dio, music, text, and "applets" incorporated into the SOFTWARE PRODUCT),
the accompanying printed materials, and any copies of the SOFTWARE PRODUC
T are owned by Altaris Systems or its suppliers. The SOFTWARE PRODUCT is
protected by copyright laws and international treaty provisions. Therefor
e, you must treat the SOFTWARE PRODUCT like any other copyrighted materia
l except that you may install the SOFTWARE PRODUCT on a single computer p
rovided you keep the original solely for backup or archival purposes. You
may not copy the printed materials accompanying the SOFTWARE PRODUCT.
5. DUAL-MEDIA SOFTWARE. You may receive the SOFTWARE PRODUCT in more than
one medium. Regardless of the type or size of medium you receive, you ma
y use only one medium that is appropriate for your single computer. You m
ay not use or install the other medium on another computer. You may not l
oan, rent, lease, or otherwise transfer the other medium to another user,
except as part of the permanent transfer (as provided above) of the SOFT
WARE PRODUCT.
6. BACKUP COPY. After installation of one copy of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT pu
rsuant to this EULA, you may keep the original media on which the SOFTWAR
E PRODUCT was provided by Altaris Systems solely for backup or archival p
urposes. If the original media is required to use the SOFTWARE PRODUCT on
the COMPUTER, you may make one copy of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT solely for b
ackup or archival purposes. Except as expressly provided in this EULA, yo
u may not otherwise make copies of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT or the printed ma
terials accompanying the SOFTWARE PRODUCT.
7. U.S. GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS. The SOFTWARE PRODUCT and documentat
ion are provided with RESTRICTED RIGHTS. Use, duplication, or disclosure
by the Government is subject to restrictions as set forth in subparagraph
(c)(1)(ii) of the Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software clause
at DFARS 252.227-7013 or subparagraphs (c)(1) and (2) of the Commercial C
omputer Software-Restricted Rights at 48 CFR 52.227-19, as applicable. Ma

8. EXPORT RESTRICTIONS. You acknowledge that the SOFTWARE PRODUCT licens
ed hereunder is subject to the export control laws and regulations of the
U.S.A., and any amendments thereof. You confirm that with respect to th
e SOFTWARE PRODUCT, you will not export or re-export it, directly or indi
rectly, to any countries that are subject to U.S.A. export restrictions.
You further acknowledge that the SOFTWARE PRODUCT may include technical
data subject to export and re-export restrictions imposed by U.S.A. law.
LIMITED WARRANTY
If you acquired your Altaris Systems SOFTWARE PRODUCT in the United State
s or Canada, the following Limited Warranty applies to you:
LIMITED WARRANTY. Altaris Systems warrants that (a) the SOFTWARE PRODUCT
will perform substantially in accordance with the accompanying written ma
terials for a period of thirty (30) days from the date of receipt, and (b
) any Support Services provided by Altaris Systems shall be substantially
as described in applicable written materials provided to you by Altaris
Systems, and Altaris Systems support engineers will make commercially rea
sonable efforts to solve any problem issues. Some states and jurisdiction
s do not allow limitations on duration of an implied warranty, so the abo
ve limitation may not apply to you. To the extent allowed by applicable l
aw, implied warranties on the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, if any, are limited to th
irty (30) days.
CUSTOMER REMEDIES. Altaris Systems's and its suppliers' entire liability
and your exclusive remedy shall be, at Altaris Systems's option, either (
a) return of the price paid, if any, or (b) repair or replacement of the
SOFTWARE PRODUCT that does not meet Altaris Systems's Limited Warranty an
d which is returned to Altaris Systems with a copy of your receipt. This
Limited Warranty is void if failure of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT has resulted
from accident, abuse, or misapplication. Any replacement SOFTWARE PRODUCT
will be warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period or t
hirty (30) days, whichever is longer. Outside the United States, neither
these remedies nor any product support services offered by Altaris System
s are available without proof of purchase from an authorized internationa
l source.
NO OTHER WARRANTIES. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, A
LTARIS SYSTEMS AND ITS SUPPLIERS DISCLAIM ALL OTHER WARRANTIES AND CONDIT
IONS, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, IMPLIED W
ARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AN
D NON-INFRINGEMENT, WITH REGARD TO THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT, AND THE PROVISIO
N OF OR FAILURE TO PROVIDE SUPPORT SERVICES. THIS LIMITED WARRANTY GIVES
YOU SPECIFIC LEGAL RIGHTS. YOU MAY HAVE OTHERS, WHICH VARY FROM STATE/JUR
ISDICTION TO STATE/JURISDICTION.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LA
W, IN NO EVENT SHALL ALTARIS SYSTEMS OR ITS SUPPLIERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY S
PECIAL, INCIDENTAL, INDIRECT, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES WHATSOEVER (INCLUD
ING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF BUSINESS PROFITS, BUSINESS I
NTERRUPTION, LOSS OF BUSINESS INFORMATION, OR ANY OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS) A
RISING OUT OF THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT OR THE
PROVISION OF OR FAILURE TO PROVIDE SUPPORT SERVICES, EVEN IF ALTARIS SYST
EMS HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IN ANY CASE, ALT
ARIS SYSTEMS'S ENTIRE LIABILITY UNDER ANY PROVISION OF THIS EULA SHALL BE
LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT ACTUALLY PAID BY YOU FOR THE SOFTWA
RE PRODUCT OR U.S.$5.00; PROVIDED, HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE ENTERED INTO A AL
TARIS SYSTEMS SUPPORT SERVICES AGREEMENT, ALTARIS SYSTEMS'S ENTIRE LIABIL
ITY REGARDING SUPPORT SERVICES SHALL BE GOVERNED BY THE TERMS OF THAT AGR
EEMENT. BECAUSE SOME STATES AND JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION
OR LIMITATION OF LIABILITY, THE ABOVE LIMITATION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
If you acquired this product in the United States, this EULA is governed
by the laws of the State of Michigan.
