  11. DOCUMENTATION

  13. Complete documentation will be installed on your hard disk when you install
  14. NeoTrace.  This documentation is in PDF format.  This is a universal file
  15. format for which you can obtain a free reader if you do not already have
  16. one.  The free reader will allow you to view the documentation on screen and
  17. to print it if you choose to do so.  We choose PDF format docs to save
  18. paper and the waste associated with unread paper docs.

  24. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
  25.  
  26. NeoTrace is a diagnostic and investigative tool.  It traces the network path
  27. across the Internet from the host system to a target system anywhere on the 
  28. Internet.  Automatic retrieval of data includes registration details for the
  29. owner of each computer on the route (address, phone, email address) and the 
  30. network each node IP is registered to.  Easy to read views of the data 
  31. include a world map showing the locations of nodes along the route, a graph 
  32. showing the relative response time of each node along the path, a simple 
  33. listing and an abstract representation of the path and node types along the 
  34. route.

  36. NeoTrace has been popular with home enthusiasts for diagnosing connection 
  37. problems.  Many Internet Service Providers recommend NeoTrace to their 
  38. customers and also use it themselves.  By providing their users with NeoTrace 
  39. many organizations have found they are able to decrease the number of help 
  40. desk calls they handle related to connection problems.  It is also used by 
  41. law enforcement professionals worldwide, including US Customs and NATO, and 
  42. is taught in courses at the FBI Academy and in Internet Investigator training 
  43. for officers in the state of California.  It has been shown on national TV 
  44. in conjunction with stories on law enforcement efforts to track down pedophiles 
  45. and other criminals.

  52. REQUIREMENTS

  54. To use NeoTrace you will need:
  55.  
  56. ╖ A '32 bit' version of Windows, i.e. Win95, 98 or NT 4.0 or greater.
  57. ╖ A connection to the internet 
  58. ╖ MS internet support, this includes wininet.dll and icmp.dll, a standard
  59. part of 99% of Windows installations.  If you are missing these files
  60. visit the support pages on our web site.
  61. ╖ The MS version of WinSock, this is the default installation for all windows
  62. platforms.  If you are using a 3rd party winsock implementation, such as
  63. Trumpet, you may have problems.
