- Double Virgule Escapement - The escape wheel
- carries two sets of pins, one set above
- the other below. The balance staff has two
- cams A and B made integral with the staff.
- At A the lower cam is riding or reposing
- on a lower pin of escape wheel. As the
- staff rates in the direction of the arrow
- the tooth pin escapes, as at A' and delivers
- impulse on the long curve. As it leaves the
- cam, the next upper pin tooth drops and
- reposes on B". The balance having made its
- half circuit, the pin gives impulse on B"'.
- The skill required to make this escapement
- and some difficulty in keeping the pins
- lubricated, conspired against its wide
- adoption.
