  78. Installing ChemLab:
  79.  
  80. ChemLab is installed with an Install Shield install program.

  82. Executing "setup.exe" will start the install process and add a
  83. "ChemLab" menu to your  start Programs menu.

  86. Running ChemLab:
  87.  
  88. 1. Click the Windows Start button, and then point to Programs.
  89. 2.  Select the ChemLab program in the ChemLab program group.*
  90. 3.  When ChemLab starts pick a simulation module to load from the
  91.  simulation  dialogbox.
  92. 3. Read the lab introduction in the introduction text window.
  93. 4. After reading the lab introduction read the procedure.
  94. 5. Select the procedure tab above the text window.
  95. 6. Then perform the lab following the steps in the procedure.

  97. While performing the procedure you can record your observations in
  98. the observation text window.

  106. Creating a UDL, with the lab wizard involves the following steps:
  107.  
  108. 1.  Select the ChemLab Wizard from the simulation dialog box
  109.  (simulation dialog appears at startup or  when starting new simulation)
  110. 2.  The Lab Wizard will then appear.
  111. 3.  Lab Introduction dialog, displays copyright information
  112.  (read and select Next)
  113. 4.  Lab Information dialog, specify the File Name, Lab title and
  114. short lab description
  115.  (this information will appear later in the simulation dialogbox)
  116.  (fill in and select Next)
  117. 5.  Lab Documentation dialog, user specifies the introduction, procedure
  118.  and results, RTF (Rich Text Format)  files. To create these files user
  119.  should first run Word or other word processor and save the files in
  120.  an RTF format.   (fill in all fields and select Next)
  121. 6.  Available chemicals dialog, the user specifies chemicals required
  122.  for their lab from  a database of available chemicals.
  123. 7.  The user may also add to or modify the chemical database, as needed.
  124. 8.  Modifying the properties of Added Chemicals. Once chemicals are
  125.  added from the  chemical database, their properties may be modified,
  126.  this allows chemicals to be marked as products or reactants
  127.  (reactants will appear in the chemicals dialogbox within ChemLab).
  128.  (Add all chemicals and select Next)
  129. 9.  Reaction dialog, the user specifies reactions list. Start adding
  130.  reactions by  selecting the "Add Reaction button". A reaction detail
  131.  dialog will appear.  Name reaction and set any reaction conditions.
  132.  A new entry will appear in  Reaction Tree. Drag and Drop Chemicals
  133.  from the Available Chemical List to the leaf nodes labeled
  134.  "Reactants" and "Products".
  135. 10.  A reaction chemical dialogbox will appear if successfully dropped,
  136.  fill in the coefficient for the chemical. Continue to drag and drop
  137.  until you have the complete balanced reaction. Once all the reactions
  138.  have been added, select Next.
  139. 11.  Finish dialog, this is the last step in lab creation process,
  140.  select Finish and the UDL will be created.

  144. NOTE: The UDL(s) created with the evaluation version
  145. are not saved to file.

  149. Adding new Simulations:
  150.  
  151. New simulations with dll and udl extension may be added to ChemLab
  152. by copying them to the  ChemLab program folder.

  162. 1.  The Right mouse button brings up a popup context menu when clicked
  163. on the lab window.

  165. 2.  Ctrl + left or right arrow key changes the selection of lab
  166.  equipment.
  167. (The Lab window must have the keyboard focus; click the right mouse
  168. key on the lab window.)
