We recommend the excellent WinZip utility for unpacking Adastra's main .zip archive. You can get the latest version of Winzip from http://www.winzip.com If you have not already done so, we would additionally recommend that, prior to running SETUP.EXE, you use Explorer to create a new folder called Astronomy inside the Windows 95 Start Menu folder. Just navigate to Windows\Start Menu and click with the right mouse button on some unoccupied space in Explorer's right-hand window. You'll see a popup menu, one of whose options will be |New|. Select |Folder| from the submenu, and name it 'Astronomy' or some other appropriate title. After setup, you will be able to manually move the shortcut named Adastra 2000 into this new folder for a tidier and more compact Start menu. Tip: when in doubt about the Win95 Explorer's file-listing, just press [F5] to refresh its display. Very often, an item you thought wasn't there will magically appear! THE SETUP UTILITY LEAVES ALL PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED FILES OF THE SAME NAME INTACT, SO WITHOUT FIRST REMOVING THE LAST INSTALLATION, A NEW COPY OF THE PACKAGE CANNOT BE INSTALLED. Adastra may be uninstalled at any time simply by opening Control Panel from the Settings entry in your Start Menu, and double- clicking on the item Add/Remove Programs. You will be shown a list of programs currently installed on your system, from which you should select the item 'Adastra 2000' for automatic removal. The complete Adastra package contains a number of text files, all designed to help you get started with the minimum of fuss. Have a browse through any item with the .TXT or .RTF extension if you've the time. Some of these will necessitate the selection of |Word Wrap| in Notepad or whichever text editor you elect to view them in. If you encounter a serious installation problem, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Please ensure you have filled in your name and location on the Setup dialog's Observer page under the File menu. If you fail to do this, the default observer (Roger Hughes, Lahti, Finland) will be used, and you will have to continue setting your approximate observing site via the world map Location Browser. If you live in the USA, and you are not sure of your exact latitude and longitude, you might like to point your Web browser at http://www.census.gov and enter the name of your home community in the search boxes provided. Afull readout of your geographic coordinates will follow, and you can then simply copy & paste the lat/long data straight into the Latitude/Longitude degrees box here on Adastra's Observer setup page and press [convert] to get the decimal readings into degrees, minutes, and seconds. Adastra will also calculate your Time Zone for you. Finally, don't forgetto indicate that your coordinates are N and W in the combo boxes provided.
