  1. Readme File for Webcelerator build 162

  3. You may experience problems running Webcelerator through a proxy.  If you have
  4. problems using a proxy on your local machine, make sure that its proxy
  5. settings are in the form 127.0.0.1:PORT_NUMBER.  Webcelerator will get
  6. confused if the IP address is something other than 127.0.0.1 IF IT IS ON YOUR
  7. LOCAL MACHINE.  For example if you have a proxy on your machine and you have
  8. the settings set to call the proxy using your computers name Webcelerator
  9. will get confused.
  10.  
  11. It is imperative that you close all web browsers, including things like
  12. Netscape Mail and Composer before you run the setup program.
  13.  
  14. If the Webcelerator control panel does not appear after you install, please
  15. run Webcelerator from the start menu.
  16.  
  17. If you have problems with any particular site, we have included a file,
  18. EXCLUDE.TXT that you can edit to fix the problem.  Below is the instructions
  19. on how to edit the file.
  20.  
  21. Use EXCLUDE.TXT to specify the handling of specific sites.
  22. This is useful to work around specific site problems such as the need
  23. to log in to a site, the site does not load correctly, you want to
  24. censor the site, or you do not care to wait for refreshed pages when the
  25. the site changes.
  26.  
  27. You may edit and add to this file.  Enter one domain or site name per line.
  28. You may have one or more modifying parameters after each name.
  29. There needs to be a space between the domain name and the parameters, but no
  30. space between individual parameters.  If no parameter is given, the default 
  31. is p.

  34.  The following is an outline of available parameters:
  35.  
  36. d - Censor. This option will allow no data to flow from this site. Instead,
  37.     Webcelerator will load a blank page for that site.
  38.  
  39. b - Pass-Thru. This option will not prefetch or cache any data from this site. 
  40.     This site will be treated as if Webcelerator was not enabled.  Data will
  41.     pass directly to the browser.
  42.  
  43. p - Don't Show and Verify. This option will disable the "Show and Verify"
  44.     mode for this site if you have "Show and Verify" enabled globally.
  45.     Reloading or revisiting this site will load the newer version of the page
  46.     (if the page has changed) from the internet first, and then display the
  47.     changed data in the browser. This overrides the default, which is to show
  48.     the cached data in the browser, check for any changes in the background,
  49.     and then force the browser to reload with the new data only if the page
  50.     has changed.

  52. v - Don't verify. This option will disable the verification process for this
  53.     site if you have show and verify enabled globally. Reloading or
  54.     revisiting this site will simply load any data from Webcelerator's cache
  55.     and not check for newer versions of stored files.
  56.  
  57. r - Don't reload. This option will disable the automatic reloading of the
  58.     browser window when this site has changed in show and verify mode.

  60. g - Beep on Verify failed.  This flag will cause Webcelerator to beep when
  61.     verification has shown that a file has changed.  This is to notify you
  62.     that you should hit the reload or refresh button to get the current
  63.     information.
  64.  
  65. x - Never beep.  This flag will cause Webcelerator to never beep on this site
  66.     even if verification has shown that a file has changed.
  67.  
  68. a - Don't prefetch.  Webcelerator will not prefetch anything from a site with
  69.     this flag.
  70.  
  71. For the parameters, lower case letters cause the action listed, and upper-
  72. case letters will undo it.  For example, your global setting (set through
  73. the Webcelerator menus) may be set to "Beep mode" to signal a changed page.
  74. You may enter here "market.net p" to cause that domain to ONLY show
  75. already verified and updated pages.  But then you may add  "market.net/admin/ P"
  76. to return that sub-domain to the global setting, and you may add 
  77. "market.net/admin/picks.htm b" to never cache that single page.

  79. Please note that these parameters are to DISABLE global features.  They 
  80. cannot add features that have not been set globally.  Therefore you cannot
  81.  cause an auto-reload when the global setting is beep mode, and you cannot
  82.  cause either "Show and verify" setting when "Show and verify" is not 
  83. selected globally.

  85. Some of the URLs already contained in your Exclude.txt are advertising 
  86. sites coded "ar" so that their advertisements will not be prefetched or
  87. will not cause a reload.  Others are business data sites with the default "p" setting 
  88. so that only the verified version is displayed.
