INSTALLATION
------------
The Picture Publisher 8 Trial comes as either:
a single download that contains a single file PP8TRIAL.EXE.
or
a split download that contains the trial in three files.
╖ PP8TRIAL.ZIP (14 Compressed installer files)
╖ SYSTEM.Z (Additional required installer file)
╖ PICTPUB.Z (Additional required installer file)
To Install:
1. Copy the file(s) to a temporary directory. (can be deleted after install)
2. Run PP8TRIAL.EXE for single download
or
Extract PP8TRIAL.ZIP for split download using PKUNZIP on the file.
*You must also have the SYSTEM.Z and PICTPUB.Z in the temporary directory or the installer will fail.
3. Run SETUP.EXE
Additional components are also available for downloading:
On-line help files - PP8Thelp.zip
Additional wizards - PP8TWiz.zip
Tutorial files - PP8Ttut.zip
* Without the extra downloaded files there won't be on-line help, wizards, or tutorials.
PP8TWiz.zip - Wizard files
To Install
1. Download PP8TWiz.zip and copy it to the "Wizards" subdirectory where your PP8Trial is installed. The default location is c:\program files\micrografx\picture publisher 8.
2. Extract PP8TWiz.zip by using PKUNZIP on the file. (can be deleted after install)
3. The new Wizards will be automatically added to Picture Publisher's Wizard Browser
PP8Thelp.zip - Online help
To Install
1. Download PP8Thelp.zip and copy it to the directory where your PP8Trial is installed
2. Extract PP8Thelp.zip by using PKUNZIP on the file. (can be deleted after install)
Tutorial files - PP8Ttut.zip
Note that PP8Ttut.zip and PP8TWiz.zip should both be installed if you want to work through the tutorials.
Also some tutorials will not work because of the disabled copy commands. These tutorials are: Merge mask, Texturizing an Image and Masking an Area.
To Install
1. Download PP8Ttut.zip and copy it to the tutorial directory where your PP8Trial is installed
2. Extract PP8Ttut.zip by using PKUNZIP on the file. (can be deleted after install)
LIMITATIONS OF THE TRIAL
------------------------
The Trial Version allows you to try out the program but is disabled in these areas:
* You can only save using Picture Publisher 8 .ppf file format.
* Copy to clipboard is disabled.
* Copy to is completely disabled.
* Dragging off objects into an open frame is disabled.
* Embedding OLE in other applications is disabled.
* Automation save always saves .ppf. Conversion wizard. HTML. Web output wizard. Contact sheet generator.
* GIF animation save is disabled.
* JPG and GIF output is disabled. Export JPG and GIF will not export.
* Closing the application brings up a contact Micrografx special offer.
* Limited content. Help and other files provided separately.
* No color management is available.
* Printing is disabled and will print only a filmstrip image.
* Some vector file formats can't be imported without the full version.
* Micrografx Media Manager is disabled.
* Creating texture files and brushes is disabled.
PLUG-INS
--------
* Do not install KPT 3.0 or any other 32-bit plugins in the same folder as your 16-bit plugins. You must install 32-bit plugins in a different folder, and when you want to run these effects, you must change the path in the Options dialog box to the new folder.
* Running third party plug-ins in a macro may cause the application to stop responding.
* The Chromatica plug-in does not create a mask when you exit the application.
* Regenerating Andromeda plug-ins through the Command List may cause your system to stop responding.
* Alien Skin 2.0 plug-ins may cause your application to stop responding if the Object selected doesnÆt fill up the Alien Skin preview window. In addition, some of these plug-ins may not work on masked areas. Contact Alien Skin for upgrades to correct these problems.
TABLETS
-------
* Do not set the tablet to a specific place in the tablet. Use the whole tablet, not portions picked by the wintab driver.
* Non-wintab tablets are not fully supported by Picture Publisher.
* If you are using a tablet, pressure sensitivity turned on with brush size is not available with some brush tips.
QUICK VIEWER
------------
* The Picture Publisher Image Viewer only works if you install Quick View. To install Quick View, go to Control Panel, run Add/Remove Programs, and change to the Windows Setup Tab. Select Accessories, click Details, and select Quick View in the Components list box. To use the Picture Publisher Image Viewer, right-click on a file type supported by Picture Publisher in the Explorer and select Quick View from the right mouse menu.
REGISTRY ENTRIES

* You can change these items in the Registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Micrografx\Picture Publisher\8.0\BevelFactory to modify the program's behavior.
* To turn on the full preview for the Bevel Factory, change the following entry in the Registry:
PreviewAll=1
* You can change these items in the Registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Micrografx\Picture Publisher\8.0\Settings to modify the program's behavior.
* To turn off hi-resolution rebuild when you paste low-resolution data into a hi-resolution image, change the following entry in the Registry:
NoHiResRebuild=0
to
NoHiResRebuild=1
* You can disable the warning dialog box for read-only files. Picture Publisher defaults to warning dialog boxes appearing when you try to open or save to a read-only file. You can modify the following entry in the Registry file to do this:
WarnReadOnly=ÆNumberÆ
'Number' can either be 1, the default, which is ON, or 0, which is OFF.
* You can change this item in the Registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Micrografx\Picture Publisher\8.0\DirSettings to change the location of files on a network.
* You can enable the command list to loop during animation by setting
CmdListLoop = 1
* The following also can modify the speed of the playback on animate.

MISCELLANEOUS
-------------
* Many menu items are greyed out to disable the functions when working on a 256 Color or less image. Convert the image to an RGB by going to the menu Image\Convert to\RGB color.
* You can only run Picture Publisher special effects on images greater than 256 colors. If the Effects\EffectsBrowser command is grayed out you must first convert the image to an RGB by going to the menu Image\Convert to\RGB color.
* Picture Publisher 8 supports double-byte character sets. This means that if you run Picture Publisher 8 on the Chinese or Korean versions of Windows 95, you can use native, non-English character sets.
WINDOWS 95
----------
Picture Publisher 8 was tested under many different conditions.
* Service Pack 2 recommended.
WINDOWS NT
----------
* The Use Printer Screening option in the Print dialog causes the image to print incorrectly in NT. The image will print correctly if this option is turned OFF.
WINDOWS NT 3.51
---------------
* Picture Publisher 8 can operate under NT 3.51 but no longer has full functionality running under this environment.
UNINSTALLING
------------
* If you decide to purchase the full retail version of Picture Publisher 8, uninstall this version first. If you do not uninstall first, the Webstyles will not point to the extra Webstyles located on the CD.

* This program is being provided as a free trial on an "as is" basis without any warranty whatsoever. In no event will Micrografx be liable for damages of any kind (direct, indirect, incidental or consequential) resulting from the use of this program. You may not reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the program. Micrografx and its suppliers retain title and all ownership rights to the program. With this free trial version, technical support is not available.
