GENERAL NOTES
Program Requirements.
*This program runs on Windows NT 3.51 (tm), NT 4.0, 95 or 98 (tm).
(all the preceding are trademarks or registered trademarks of the
Microsoft Corporation).
*Approximately 1.5MB disk space
*TCP/IP Network connection with DNS
Network connection notes.
An actively running connection to a network using a Windows Sockets
(or compatible) link is suggested for DNS resolution. Works with network cards
connected to TCPIP networks or through dialup connections to internet providers.
If you use dialup, you must be using a SLIP or PPP connection (TIA and Slirp work
fine for all functions except ping and traceroute which require a static IP).
Your Computer Clock and the Trial Period.
The trial wrapper that NetScanTools uses is sensitive to changes in your computer
clock. Problems can arise if you use the Time Sync feature on a computer where
the clock is off by more than a few minutes. Please see our web site support area
for a full explanation. Your trial period can be reset as noted below.
Registration Numbers.
When sending us a NetScanTools Registration Number, please do not reinstall your
copy of NetScanTools while you wait for your unlock or trial reset code. Each
installation creates a new, random Registration Number.
License Agreement.
Full copyright notice and printable license agreement are located in the
"about" tab of NetScanTools.
Suggestions/Comments.
We welcome any suggestions on improvements/additions for subsequent versions of
NetScanTools. NetScanTools is the result of suggestions from users.
Questions/Problems/Bug Reports.
Please use our web-based support area:

Trial Period Extensions.
If you require more than 30 days to evaluate NetScanTools, or your trial period
expires early due to changes in your computer clock, we can provide a reset code.
This reset code will give you an additional 30 day trial period.

REVISION HISTORY
3.1 8/16/98 re-release.
Changes to the installer to support Windows 98. Program unchanged.
3.1 6/08/98 re-release.
Changes to the installer to remove VBox AVI. Program unchanged.
3.1 3/17/98
[new]
Window resizing implemented. This works on Windows NT 4 and Windows 95.
It does not work very well on Windows NT 3.51. (MFC Programmers: This
was not trivial since NetScanTools is actually a tabbed dialog box!)
Whois now automatically uses to domain extension to determine which
whois server to query.
NetScanner can now automatically use the domain name of a responding
host for an integrated whois query.
Automatic entry cleanup. Removes http://, ftp://, mailto:, and
trailing "/". Not used on Whois, NetScanner, What's New at NWPSW.
Added PTR record option to Adv Query Setup.
Added high resolution timer queries for Ping/TraceRoute under systems
supporting these timers and running Raw Sockets.
Added start time recording and display to Ping and Traceroute.
Added "End of Query" message to Whois and NetScanner/Whois.
Added port scan for a single TCP service to NetScanner. Useful in
detection of things like web servers running on hosts in a subnet.
Added new "TCP Term" tab. This is a simple TCP terminal app which allows
you to connect to any port on a remote host and communicate with
the service residing on that port---assuming you know the protocol.
Added "Who Am I" button to Name Server Lookup tab.
Added "finger" cursor for web links to help and email.
Added Microsoft Mail (MAPI) support for emailing results.
Added "-t" command line option for automatically starting NetScanTools on the
TimeSync tab, then having it request synchronization from the last used
time server.
Added Name Server Timeout option to Preferences Tab.
Swapped the position of NetScanner and What's New at NWPSW tabs.
[fixes]
Name Server Lookup and Whois tabs now properly save to file.
Traceroute with starting hop other than 1, list view, now displays
properly.
Minimize to tray icon mode now works even more correctly.
NetScanner now continues to run when you switch to another tab and back
again.
Traceroute and NetScanner no longer go to 100% CPU usage during IP to
hostname resolutions.
Ping and Traceroute now scroll when using list view.
Changed all WSAAsyncGetHostByName and WSAAsyncGetHostByAddr to gethostby...
in separate threads to correct for a problem in a winsock.
