  7. NB: If you have installed the previous version of AttrMenu just copy
  8. the DLL to the SHELLEXT directory while the Explorer is not running.
  9.  
  10. You may have noticed that the Explorer program in Microsoft Windows 95
  11. (tm) doesn't display the folder's files attributes. You must open
  12. the "properties" page to access, display and possibly change these
  13. attributes.

  15. AttrMenu is a shell extension for Windows 95 allowing to directly access
  16. a file's attributes from its context menu (opened when right clicking on
  17. the filename with the right mouse button). Four commands are added to the
  18. context menu of any file:

  20.     Toggle Archive Attribute
  21.     Toggle Read-only Attribute
  22.     Toggle Hidden Attribute
  23.     Toggle System Attribute
  24.  
  25. These commands can be accessed from the "Attributes" popup menu appearing in
  26. the file's context menu.

  28. When the corresponding attribute is set, the corresponding menu item is
  29. checked. To change the state of an attribute merely select the command
  30. relative to that attribute.

  32. This extension is not a definitive solution to the problem explained
  33. above. However, until we find a more elegant one, AttrMenu will do the
  34. job. At least you'll be able to quickly display the state of a single
  35. file's attributes.

  37. We first developed AttrMenu using the MFC. While not bringing significant
  38. advantages, this solution produced a huge 140 KB Dll. So we switched back
  39. to a SDK development and the Dll was reduced to a more acceptable size of
  40. 26 KB.

  43. HOW TO INSTALL
  44. --------------

  46. Installation of this extension is easy. First, copy ATTRMENU.DLL and
  47. ATTRMENU.INF to any directory. Open the Explorer and right-click on the
  48. Setup Information file (ATTRMENU.INF). Choose the INSTALL command. When
  49. you're done installing , you can delete the original files. They have
  50. been copied to your SYSTEM\SHELLEXT directory. However, you should make a
  51. BACKUP in case you uninstall the extension and want to re-install it
  52. later. The files will be deleted when uninstalling.

  55. HOW TO UNINSTALL

  58. To Uninstall, right-click on ATTRMENU.INF and select the UNINSTALL command.
  59. (NOTE: Install is not LFN-aware; it will not work if the files are copied
  60. to a local directory with an LFN.)

  62. Preferably, open the Control Panel and select Add/Remove Programs. In the
  63. Install/Uninstall page, select Attributes Context Menu and click on
  64. Add/Remove.

  70. to any server. It is prohibited to charge any fee for this software.
