This file contains important program information. Please read these tips through carefully, before beginning to work with StarOffice 5.0!
This StarOffice version provides full functionality for a 30 day evaluation period. In order to change it to an unlimited full version, you have to register. After registration, Star Division will send you a registration key which then can be used to remove this limitation.
NOTE: This Version of StarOffice is only for non-commercial personal use!
It is possible to install StarOffice 5.0 in addition to an existing StarOffice 4.0. But if you later deinstall one of these StarOffice versions, you must run the respective StarOffice setup program after the deinstallation and choose the Repair option.
Make sure to dispose enough free disk space for your temp directory.
Due to technical reasons, certain services may not be able to be displayed, or may cause problems in the systray integration (display of running tasks in the TaskBar). In this case, you can deactivate this integration by calling the following from the StarOffice installation directory:
sointgr.exe -u
After restarting Windows, the service will not be reactivated. Enter the following to make it available again:
sointgr.exe -i
NOTE:
You should never just terminate the running sointgr service!
StarOffice requires the Microsoft Speech API to enable communication with the speech recognition software. StarOffice should work with any speech recognition software that supports this API. Depending on which software you have, differences in speed may arise which are not due to StarOffice.
1. Dragon NaturallySpeaking
Dragon NaturallySpeaking 3.0 must be installed on your Computer. To use the Dragon NaturallySpeaking with StarOffice we povide the dnsrdk.exe in the /misc/dragon directory. Run the program to install the Microsoft Speech API. After installing you should reboot your computer in order to activate the changes made to the system. For further help please see the online help.
StarOffice 5.0 activates the dialogs of the speech recognition software. In Dragon NaturallySpeaking 3.0, the dialogs "Training", "Adjust Microphone" and "Dictionary" are not implemented. The "Configuration" dialog results in both Dragon NaturallySpeaking 3.0 and StarOffice 5.0 no longer being able to continue.
2. ViaVoice Gold und ViaVoice 98
ViaVoice Gold automatically supports the Microsoft Speech API. No further installation is necessary. Our test have shown that delays in speech recognition may occur in the Command Mode.
In Windows95 the dialer functions without any problems. If you can successfully use the original Windows dialer, then it will also function with StarOffice 5.0.
At the time of our testing, there were no Windows98 drivers available for various ISDN cards. With the respective Windows95 drivers, however, there may be difficulties when using Windows98. For example, we noticed that sometimes you cannot dial at all. Function errors may even arise after the deactivation.
To use the mail and news functions in StarOffice, you must enter your name and e-mail address under Tools/Options/General. In order to get the most out of the provided templates for letters, faxes, etc., you should fill out the user data completely. This information is only for your personal use, and you can specify whether or not the program should utilize it. The dialog for entering your personal data is also displayed during the installation.
Note : Your name and e-mail address are automatically included in the header information of an e-mail. Of course, if no e-mail address is specified, you won't be able to send any mail.
To transfer an address book from StarOffice 4.0, simply copy the address.dbf file from the StarOffice 4.0 DATABASE folder into the DATABASE folder of StarOffice 5.0. Then select the menu command Edit - Address Book. The address book will be automatically converted. If an error message appears when you activate the address book, the address.dbf file is probably still open. Before the conversion, make sure that no dialogs relating to database functionality are open. In the case of an error message, restart StarOffice 5.0 and select Edit - Address Book again.
