  9. INSTALLING INTERBASE 5

  11. Complete installation instructions are in
  12. Chapter 3 of the Operations Guide.

  14. Windows system requirements: Windows 95 with
  15. Service Pack 1 or Windows NT 4.0 with Service
  16. Pack 3 with all recommended hotfixes. A full
  17. install that includes InterBase, InterClient,
  18. Adobe Acrobat Reader, and the full document
  19. set requires approximately 36MB of disk space.
  20. Only 11MB is needed to install the InterBase
  21. product without InterClient, the documents, or
  22. Acrobat Reader.

  24. You cannot install InterBase onto a network
  25. drive.

  28. OLDER VERSIONS OF INTERBASE
  29.  
  30. It is recommended that you uninstall any
  31. previous versions of InterBase that are
  32. present on the server where you are
  33. installing the InterBase 5 software. With
  34. this software, as with any software, it is
  35. recommended to remove any field test
  36. versions prior to installing. If InterBase
  37. 4.1 or earlier is present on your database
  38. server, you *must* uninstall it before
  39. proceeding with the Version 5 install.

  42. GDS32.DLL
  43.  
  44. There must be one and only one copy of
  45. gds32.dll on the server where InterBase 5
  46. is running. If gds32.dll exists on the
  47. server because you have previously
  48. installed Borland Database Engine as part
  49. of Delphi, C++Builder, or another Borland
  50. product, or because InterBase 4.1 or earlier
  51. was installed on the server, you must
  52. remove the older gds32.dll file.
