  12. Microsoft(r) Connection Manager 1.2. Before installing Connection 
  13. Manager, please review this entire document. It contains critical 
  14. information to ensure proper installation and use of the product.

  42. This version is intended for users of Windows 95, Windows 98, 
  43. Windows NT Workstation 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or higher, 
  44. and Windows NT Server 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or higher.
  45. To use this release, you need one of these operating 
  46. systems with at least 2 MB of space available on your 
  47. hard disk and a 9600 Baud or faster modem 
  48. (for dial-up connections).

  50. This release will not install on Windows NT 5.0 beta 2 or Windows
  51. 2000.

  54. 2. USING CONNECTION MANAGER 1.2

  57. 2.1 Using the Dialer
  58. --------------------------
  59. To start a connection with Microsoft Connection Manager 1.2, 
  60. double-click the icon for your service located on the Windows 
  61. desktop. The Connection Manager logon dialog box should appear. 
  62. Enter your username and password. Click the Properties button. 
  63. If available, click the Phone Book button and select a phone 
  64. number from the list. If the Phone Book button is not available, 
  65. then type a phone number directly into the Phone Number box. 
  66. Click OK. Then, in the logon dialog box, click the Connect button.

  68. 2.2 Uninstalling Connection Manager

  70. To uninstall Connection Manager, click Start, point to Settings, 
  71. and then click Control Panel. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. 
  72. Select Microsoft Connection Manager, and then click Add/Remove.

  74. To uninstall your service profile,  right-click your service's program 
  75. icon on the desktop, and then click Delete.

  80. this product.

  83. 3. KNOWN ISSUES WITH MICROSOFT CONNECTION MANAGER 1.2

  85. * If you are running Windows NT 4.0, you must manually configure 
  86. Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) for your virtual private 
  87. network (VPN). To configure PPTP for VPN on Windows NT 4.0:
  88.  
  89.   1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then 
  90.      double-click Network.
  91.   2. On the Protocols tab, click Add, and then click Point To Point 
  92.      Tunneling Protocol.  
  93.   3. Click OK. 
  94.   4. In Number of Virtual Private Networks, enter 1. 
  95.   5. In the Remote Access Setup window, click Add. 
  96.   6. In the Add RAS Device dialog box, select VPN1 - RASPPTPM, and 
  97.      then click OK. 
  98.   7. Select VPN1, and then click Configure. 
  99.   8. In the Configure Port Usage dialog box, select Dial-Out Only, if 
  100.      it is not already selected, and then click OK. 
  101.   9. Click Network and make sure that TCP/IP is selected and then 
  102.      complete the installation. 
  103.  
  104. * If you are running Windows NT 4.0 and are using a Connection Manager 
  105. service profile that requires Dial-Up Scripting, you must install 
  106. Windows NT Service Pack 3 or later. It is recommended that you install 
  107. the latest upgrade (currently Window NT Service Pack 4). If you have 
  108. problems with Connection Manager that you cannot resolve using the 
  109. Connection Manager troubleshooting Help, uninstall RAS, re-install it, 
  110. and then re-install the Windows NT service pack. Verify in RAS that 
  111. VPN1 is configured for "Dial-Out Only." (See the above procedure for 
  112. the method for configuring VPN1.)
  113.  
  114. * On Windows NT 4.0, if you try to establish more than one connection, 
  115. you might see the message, "The modem is not configured properly." 
  116. This sometimes happens if you try to dial too quickly, or if you start 
  117. Connection Manager when a connection has already been established using 
  118. Dial-Up Networking. Use one connection at a time. 
  119.  
  120. * If you are running Windows NT 4.0 and you change the Disconnect 
  121. If Idle setting, the change will not take effect until you quit 
  122. Connection Manager and restart it. 
  123.  
  124. * If you want to install a Connection Manager service profile on a 
  125. computer running Windows 98, you should uninstall the VPN1 adapter 
  126. before installing Connection Manager 1.2. Connection Manager installs 
  127. it but may not be able to reinstall over an existing VPN adapter.

  129. * Connection Manager does not support displaying a terminal window. 
  130.  
  131. * If you use direct VPN connections, you cannot use Microsoft 
  132. Windows CE software from the desktop.
