For the moment(4-dec-1998) I only tested v2.1 on my own computers.
Documenation:
--------------
There is none!
You have to check the menu choice "Hint help on/off" to
show some help about each function in "Back it up!", just
move the mouse over any cind of "gizmo" you see in
"Back it up!" and read the "hint help".
Functions not mention:
----------------------
Drag and drop a ZIP file(or a ZIP Self extracting archive)
on BACKUP.EXE or a shortcut to it to show a "Browse for folder"
dialog to extract in selected folder without opne "Back it up!"
Drag and drop a Folder on BACKUP.EXE or a Shortcut to it to
show a "Back it up!" pop-up menu:
Add to zip file
Add to "<the selecte folder and path>\%last folder%.zip"
Add to "<the selecte folder and path>\%last folder%.exe"
eg; The folder "Test" is droped on BACKUP.EXE from desktop:
Add to zip file
Add to C:\Windows\Dekstop\Test\Test.zip
Add to C:\Windows\Dekstop\Test\Test.exe
(The last choice makes a Self extracting archive. This menu choice
is enabled if there's no files named eg "Test.exe" in the directory
or if the file exists, the menu choice is enabled if the file is a
zip file.)
Choosing the menu choice "Add to zip file" show a dialog and you can
manage how the archive should be created.
(If drop a ZIP file on a Back it up! "AutoRun" shortcur, the "AutoRun"
is overrided.)
!!! If "Back it up!" is running, no action is made, you have a lot of
drag and drop possibilities in "Back it up!", eg:
Tab: "Archive files"
Tab: "Edit archive"
Instead of click the "Open" button, you can drop a ZIP file on that button.
Drop a file in the "list window" for "Edit archive" adds that file to the
current opened archive without questions...
For previous users of Back it up!
-----------------------------------
Files:
-------
"ZIPDLL.DLL", "UNZDLL.DLL" and "BIU_SFX.BIN":
Installed in the same directory as "Back it up!"(BACKUP.EXE).
If other application you install, installs ZIPDLL.DLL and
UNZDLL.DLL but differant versions.
Other files:
-------------
"BIUCNTXT.DLL": version is now: 1.1.0.3
The version 1.0.0.0(right click on the file and choose "Properties") should
be removed and thrown away as far as possible...
Install to your "System" directory.
For use with some minor direct access to Back it up! via
Windows context menu.(Not needed, only adds some extra "utility"
functions for ZIP files in Windows explorer.)
Only if you "Register ZIP files with Back it up!":
---------------------------------------------------
!!! If you use NT(4):
I don't even know if this context menu stuff can be used in NT4, but if
can; The BIUCNTXT.DLL, if you choose the menu choice in Back it up!
to register ZIP files with Back it up!, the DLL is registered as
a com server and the file can't be moved/deleted(in win95 that is)
until you unregister in the menu choice.
Why I said this is beouse I dont know how NT handles this INF-script.
I tested on my Win95 computer, and the DLL was replaced without any
questions, so I don's use some cind of "Force the file in use behaviour"
and ask you if you want to reboot.
So, it the file isn't replaced:
1: Unregister ZIP file in Back it up! menu choice.
2: Drop this file you downloaded in the "Extract files" list in Back it up!
3: Duoble click on BIUCNTXT.DLL and do what you have to do(extract to).
4: Register ZIP files again...
5: Tell me if it worked without any problems(the installation replaced the DLL)
so I can remove this text...
v2.1:
------
Bug fix: Users saved options, eg "Auto save", "Compression level" not saved
as it should when execute "Back it up!" from Windows context menu.
Bug fix: Memory leak when using BIUCNTXT.DLL v1.0(Icons in windows context
menu not deleted, I'M AN IDIOT!).
Added more "Windows context menu options":
Menu choices:
--------------
Right click a file(eg; C:\Windows\Desktop\A file on desktop.zip):
If it's a ZIP file(checking zip header):
-> Extract to... (Show a "Browse for folder" dialog)
-> Extract to C:\...\Desktop\A file on desktop\
-> Convert to Self-Extracting(A file on desktop.exe) (enable if not "A file on desktop.exe" exist)
if it's not a ZIP file(eg; C:\Windows\Desktop\A file on desktop.txt)
-> C:\...\A file on desktop.zip
-> C:\...\A file on desktop.exe (enable if "A file on desktop.exe" not exist)
if its a folder(eg: C:\Windows\Desktop\A folder on desktop\):
-> send to Back it up! (Show the dialog how the archive should be created)
-> C:\...\A folder on desktop\A folder on desktop.zip
-> C:\...\A folder on desktop\A folder on desktop.exe(enable if "A file on desktop.exe" not exist)
v2.2:
------
Fixes:
1: In Back it up!, Tab: Extract files. "Extract files" button, confirmation dialog
when checked more then 50 files, the dialog should not be shown if its less
then 8192 files checked.
2: When creating archive(anywhere), "File not found" should not be shown for
directories/folders not holding any files(the empty directory is added).
3: Progress not shown when extract from Back it up! "Extract files".
New:
1: Added dialog if cancel when add files to archive.
2: Added some safety stuff here and there(hide options/buttons when "Edit archive" in action).
Us usually, I'm sick and write very bad, if there's something you don't
understand becouse I've written some words that cant be understod, ask me!
Best regards and so on... /Bernt Levinsson
