  2. Network Drivers Installation Notes
  3.  
  4.       WINDOWS 95 AND MICROSOFT WINDOWS NETWORKING
  5.  
  6.  
  7. This document describes how to configure the 3C589D PC Card for 
  8. use with Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows Networking. These
  9. procedures are also described in the EtherLink III PC Card User.
  10.  
  11. NOTE: The following instructions assume that you have not
  12.       installed any other network adapter in the machine. If you
  13.       have been using a network connection on your PC,
  14.       some of the following instructions may not apply or may
  15.       produce different results. Refer to your MIS department
  16.       or system manager for instructions.
  17.  
  18. Before installing the network driver, you should know the
  19. following:
  20.  
  21.       The name of your Windows 95 workgroup or:
  22.       The name of the NT Domain or NT Workgroup to which
  23.       you belong
  24.  
  25. Also, for a successful installation, you will need:
  26.  
  27.       - Windows 95 system installation files (either on hard
  28.         disk, floppy diskettes, or CD)
  29.       - 3C589D PC LAN PC Card and the accompanying EtherDisk
  30.         diskette
  31.         
  32. To install the driver, follow these steps:
  33. 1.  Turn on the PC and start Windows 95.
  34.  
  35. 2.  Insert the 3C589D PC Card in the system.
  36.  
  37.     If you see an "unknown device" message, go to the section
  38.     below titled "Installing Networking."
  39.  
  40. 3. If this is the first installation of Windows 95, on the 
  41. Control Panel, double click the PCMCIA icon. This
  42.     opens the PC Card (PCMCIA) Wizard.
  43.  
  44.     At this point, the card wizard may ask whether you are
  45.     using a PC Card to install windows. This question typically 
  46.     has to do with whether you are using an external CD-ROM or
  47.     floppy drive connected to the PC through a PC Card.
  48.     For this installation, the question probably does not apply.
  49.     Click NEXT.
  50.  
  51. The system asks if you are using Real Mode Drivers and
  52.     whether to remove them. Select NO and click NEXT.
  53.  
  54. Click FINISH. At the shutdown prompt, click YES to shut down
  55.     the system. When shutdown is complete, restart the PC.

  58. 4.  When Windows 95 restarts, the New Hardware Found
  59.     dialog box appears and identifies the 3Com Corporation 3C589D PC
  60.     Card. Since the driver for the LAN PC Card is not
  61.     included with Windows 95, select: "Driver from disk
  62.     provided by Hardware manufacturer" and click OK.

  64. 5.  This opens the Install From Disk dialog box. Indicate the
  65.     floppy drive you will be using, insert the EtherDisk, and
  66.     click OK.
  67.  
  68. 6.  When the system prompts for Location Information, enter the
  69.     requested location information and click OK.
  70.  
  71. 7.  When the system prompts for Computer Name and Group
  72.     Name, type the names as supplied by your MIS department
  73.     or system manager and click OK.
  74.  
  75. NOTE: The PC name and the workgroup name apply to
  76.       Microsoft Networking, which is installed by default.
  77.  
  78. 8.  As the system copies files, it may ask for additional diskettes.
  79.     When finished, it prompts whether to restart. Remove the
  80.     EtherDisk and click YES.
  81.  
  82. 9.  When the system starts up again, you will be asked to enter
  83.     a user name and password for Microsoft Networking. Type
  84.     your name and password and click OK. When prompted to
  85.     verify your password, retype it and click OK.
  86.  
  87. 10.  You should now be able to see the Network Neighborhood 
  88.     icon on your desktop. Double-click the icon to access the
  89.     network.
