- + <F2><C1>
- + The design screen allows you to equip your ships and tanks with
- - different weapons and equipment. After creating a design, you will
- - be able to build it using the production screen.

- + There are several windows around the screen which display information
- - about the design.
- +
- + The window at the top of the screen displays the following information.
- +
- + <C5>Base:<C1> The base vehicle used in this design.
- +
- + <C5>Price:<C1> The production cost of this design. This depends on the base
- - vehicle and how much equipment you have added.
- +
- + <C5>Production Time:<C1> The production time for this design.
- +
- + <C5>Units in army:<C1> The number of units of this type already manufactured.
- - This can be important when calculating upgrade costs.
- +
- + <C5>Tank capacity:<C1> The amount of tanks that can be carried by this ship.
- +
- + The window in the bottom left corner of the screen displays the
- + following information.
- +
- + <C5>Name:<C1> Name of the design. You can only rename a design if you create
- - a new design or modify an existing one.
- +
- + <C5>Speed:<C1> Speed of the vehicle. The type of hyperdrive fitted determines
- - the speed of ships. The type of chassis determines the speed of tanks.
- +
- + <C5>Firepower:<C1> A rating of the designs destructive capacity. This is
- - determined by the type and quantity of weapons fitted.
- +
- + <C5>HP:<C1> This defines the amount of damage the ship or tank can take.
- +
- + The window on the right side of the screen displays a list of the
- - equipment fitted to the design.
- +
- + The window in the bottom right of the screen displays information
- - about the currently selected equipment pod.
- +
- + <C5>Pod:<C1> The name of this equipment pod. This indicates the type of
- - equipment that can be fitted to the pod.

- + <F3><C5>Creating a New Design<F2><C1>
- +
- + If you want to create a new design, left click and hold on the New icon.
- - Then, select the base vehicle for the design. A model of the vehicle
- - will then appear in the middle of the screen. Boxes on the model show
- - you the location of the equipment pods. Weapons and equipment developed
- - on the research screen can be added to these pods. In order
- - to add equipment to a pod, press and hold the left mouse button in the
- - boxes on the model or on the names in the right window, then select
- - the equipment you want to add. More advanced vehicles can hold larger
- - quantities of equipment and better types of weapon.
- +
- + Each pod type can carry different types of inventions. You can equip
- - multiple amounts of particular weapons to a pod. If this is the case,
- - the amount of weapons fitted to the pod is displayed next to the
- - weapon's name and can be changed by left clicking the arrows. The window
- - in the bottom right corner of the screen displays the current quantity
- - fitted and the maximum allowed.
- +
- - The window at the top of the screen displays the production cost and
- - time for this design. The computer gives a default name to the design
- - but you can change this by typing in a new name during the design
- - process. This is displayed in the window at the bottom left of the screen.
- - When you have completed the design, left click OK to save it.
- +
- + A fast way to design vehicles is to use the Autodesign feature. Left
- - click on the Autodesign icon and the computer will make a design for
- - you, using what it considers to be the best equipment. You can revise
- - the vehicle yourself by adding or removing equipment until you are
- - happy with it. If you are not happy with the design you can left click
- - CLEAR to start again.

- + <F3><C5>Redesign<F2><C1>
- +
- + This feature is similar to creating a new design except you are
- - using an existing design as the base for a new one. Select a ship or
- - tank you have already designed, then left click the redesign button.
- - You can then add or remove equipment as described previously. A new
- - vehicle will be added to the list of vehicles that can be produced.

- + <F3><C5>Upgrade<F2><C1>
- + As you continuously develop better and better inventions your older
- - vehicles will become outdated. Using the upgrade function you can
- - make modifications to your old vehicles and change the weapons,
- - hyperdrives, shields and other equipment fitted to them.
- - Select the design you want to upgrade then click the Upgrade icon.
- - You can then add better equipment to the design.
- - When you have changed the design and are ready to upgrade, you can
- - choose to upgrade all the ships of this design in your fleet at once
- - (which is expensive but convenient) or choose to upgrade them later
- - and one at a time using the fleet information screen on the Starmap
- - (which is cheaper but more inconvenient). The vehicles you can upgrade on
- - the fleet information screen have upgr. Next to their name in
- - brackets.
