  18. Easy : just say it as it comes : Blupi, as in Blue Pea !

  20. How to run Blupimania from Windows 3.x
  21. --------------------------------------
  22. When you install your BLUPIMANIA program, the files are transferred from
  23. the diskette to a directory. The standard name for this directory is
  24. C:\BLUPIMANIA, but you may call it almost anything you like. BLUPI.PIF
  25. enables you to run the program from Windows(TM) and BLUPI.ICO contains
  26. an Icon you can use. Both files in the directory mentioned above.
  27. To run BLUPIMANIA from Windows(TM), you must create an access to
  28. BLUPIMANIA in one of the groups in the Program Manager :
  29. - Click on the group you want to add BLUPIMANIA in or create a new group
  30.   using the New option in the File menu of the Program Manager.
  31. - Select New in the File menu of the Program Manager.
  32. - Activate the "Program" button, then click "OK".
  33. - Fill in the options in the dialog :
  34.     Name :          BLUPIMANIA
  35.     Command Line :  C:\BLUPIMAN\BLUPIMAN.PIF
  36.   Do not fill in the other elements.
  37. - Click "Change icon..."
  38.   A message stating no icon is available will appear. Don't worry, just
  39.   click "OK".
  40. - In the next dialogue, type C:\BLUPIMAN\BLUPI.ICO, then click "OK" twice.
  41. - Validate these entries by clicking "OK" again.
  42.  
  43. Of course, if you change the name of the directory when you install
  44. BLUPIMANIA, you must use the new name in the Path settings, instead of
  45. C:\BLUPIMANIA in the instructions above.
  46.  
  47. How to run BLUPIMANIA from Windows 95
  48. -------------------------------------
  49. To run BLUPIMANIA you can create a shortcut to BLUPIMAN.EXE. Open the
  50. folder where you have installed BLUPIMANIA. Right click on the Blupiman
  51. application icon and choose "Create shortcut". Now you can drag the
  52. shortcut to whatever location you want.
  53. You may put the Blupi icon on your shortcut. Right click on the shortcut
  54. and chose "Properties". Choose the "Program" tab, click on the
  55. "Change icon" button, browse to the path where you have installed
  56. BLUPIMANIA and select the BLUPIMAN.ICO file
  57.  
  58. Memory setup
  59. ------------
  60. BLUPIMANIA needs 480000 executable program size to run properly.
  61. If BLUPIMANIA does not run,, but displays something like
  62.  
  63.   You don't have enough free conventional memory for this program.
  64.   You have 408224 bytes of free conventional memory and you need at
  65.   least 480000 bytes of free conventional memory.
  66.  
  67. some conventional memory must be freed by removing resident applications
  68. and drivers, and/or by using a high memory utility such QEMM386 by
  69. Quarterdeck. With MS-DOS 6, the "MEMMAKER" command can also be used.
  70. Refer to your MS-DOS manual for this command.
  71.  
  72. The "MEM" DOS command will display information relative to the occupation
  73. of your memory. You need at least 480000 largest executable program size.
  74.  
  75. If BLUPIMANIA doesn't run, but displays:
  76.  
  77.    Not enough XMS memory
  78.  
  79. this means probably that you don't have enough memory to run BLUPIMANIA.
  80. This message usually appears only on computers with less than 4 Mb of RAM.
  81. You can probably free some  memory by giving less memory to the SMARTDRV
  82. disk cache program.
  83.  
  84. Proceed like this:
  85. - edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
  86. - look for the line  that reads "SMARTDRV", "SMARTDRV /X",
  87.   "SMARTDRV 1024" or similar.
  88. - If a number follows "SMARTDRV" decrease the number for example by
  89.   dividing it by 2
  90. - If no number follows "SMARTDRV", try putting "200" or even less
  91.   after "SMARTDRV"
  92.  
  93. For example:
  94.  
  95.      Before            After
  96.      SMARTDRV /X 1024    SMARTDRV /X 512
  97.      SMARTDRV            SMARTDRV 200
  98.  
  99. The number after "SMARTDRV" indicates how much memory should be allocated
  100. to the disk cache. If you decrease that number, you increase the free
  101. memory for BLUPIMANIA.
  102.  
  103. On the other hand it is not recommended to remove completely SMARTDRV.
  104.  
  105. Using a mouse
  106. -------------
  107. BLUPIMANIA is a DOS program and must be run using a DOS mouse driver. When
  108. you install BLUPIMANIA onto your disk, a message will warn you if no DOS
  109. mouse driver is installed.
  110.  
  111. Query:
  112. The mouse does not respond and the arrow is not displayed.
  113.  
  114. Remedy:
  115. The DOS mouse driver is probably not installed. Usually, the mouse driver
  116. is loaded by AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS  when your computer is started up.
  117. The usual name for the DOS mouse driver is MOUSE.COM (for  AUTOEXEC.BAT)
  118. or MOUSE.SYS (for CONFIG.SYS). Other common  names are AMOUSE, GMOUSE,
  119. IMOUSE, HPMOUSE. Even if you start  BLUPIMANIA from Windows(TM), it is
  120. necessary to install a DOS mouse driver. Please refer to your mouse
  121. manual.
  122.  
  123. If you use a SICOS mouse driver, BLUPIMANIA may not work correctly. You
  124. should change your mouse driver.
  125.  
  126. Using a sound board
  127. -------------------
  128. BLUPIMANIA comes with a great musical background and sound effects. This
  129. means you need a SoundBlaster or compatible sound board. As sound boards
  130.  
  131. are rather touchy, here are some answers
  132. to problems you may have :
  133.  
  134. Query:
  135. I'm not getting any sound effects or music.
  136.  
  137. Remedies :
  138. - Are you sure you've got a sound board ?
  139. - Make sure your speakers are connected, and the volume turned up.
  140. - Check the setup.  Use the SETUP program in the directory where you
  141.   installed BLUPIMANIA.
  142.   Please refer to your sound board manual.
  143.   You may need to restart your computer if you change the settings.
  144. - Check the volume controls in the BLUPIMANIA control screen (click on
  145.   the blue machine
  146.   on the right side of the BLUPIMANIA main screen.
  147.  
  148. Query:
  149. - I've got music, but no sound effects or voice.
  150.  
  151. Remedies:
  152. - Your sound board may not be SoundBlaster compatible. Sorry, no sound
  153.   effects !
  154. - If your sound board is SoundBlaster compatible, then check the settings
  155.   as explained above.
  156. - Check the volume controls in the BLUPIMANIA control screen (click on the
  157.   blue machine on the right side of the BLUPIMANIA main screen).
  158.  
  159. Query:
  160. I've got the sound effects, but no music.
  161.  
  162. Remedies :
  163. - Check the volume controls in the BLUPIMANIA control screen (click on the
  164.   blue machine on the right side of the BLUPIMANIA main screen).
  165. - Some sound boards need auxiliary programs that are installed in the
  166.   Config.Sys and/or AutoExec.Bat files. Check your sound board manual
  167.   for details.
  168.  
  169. Query:
  170. - I'm sure I've set BLUPIMANIA up correctly, but I still don't have music
  171.   or sound effects.
  172.  
  173. Remedy:
  174. - In some configurations, sound boards do not work properly if you run
  175.   your program from Windows(TM). Quit Windows(TM) completely and run
  176.   BLUPIMANIA directly at the DOS prompt. Change directory:
  177.   CD C:\BLUPIMAN and type BLUPIMAN.
  178.  
  179. Query:
  180. - BLUPI suddenly returns to Windows(TM) stating an error.
  181.  
  182. Remedy:
  183. - Refer to previous remedy.
  184.  
  185.  
  186. Other hazards
  187. -------------
  188. Query:
  189. When I try to run SETUP, I get the Windows setup or another setup program.
  190.  
  191. Remedies :
  192. - You are not in the correct directory.
  193.   If you are using the Windows File Manager, open the  BLUPIMAN directory
  194.   before clicking setup.exe. If you are in DOS, type CD C:\BLUPI-M (or the
  195.   path you chose when you installed BLUPIMANIA)
  196. - Have you installed BLUPIMANIA on your disk ?
  197.  
  198. Query:
  199. - My BLUPMANIA displays an error message similar to
  200.   "Fatal error: BLUPI20.COL: No such file or directory"
  201. Remedy:
  202. - One of the auxiliary files (for instance BLUPI20.COL) has been
  203.   accidentally deleted. You must install BLUPIMANIA again.
