  3. Thank you for playing the DUST Demo!
  4.  
  5. An interactive story set in a Western frontier-town in 1882, Dust is an
  6. exploration-based narrative adventure with arcade features.  The 
  7. setting is the town of Diamondback, a frontier outpost in the New 
  8. Mexico Territory in the year 1882. As the story opens, the player 
  9. wanders into town, having no money and no gun. Exploring the town and 
  10. its various locales, the player begins to meet and converse with the 
  11. town's various offbeat inhabitants. Perception and judgment are key as 
  12. the player must adjust to an unfamiliar and volatile setting, learn the 
  13. personalities of the townspeople, and elicit the friendship or help of 
  14. the ones who might be trustworthy. Over the course of five days and 
  15. nights, the player may become involved in a variety of confrontations, 
  16. challenging predicaments, and, ultimately, a  battle of greed and destiny 
  17. involving a trove of Spanish silver, a Native American schoolteacher, 
  18. and her tribe's lost heritage.

  20. This is one of four demo's currently available for DUST.  The Blackjack, 
  21. Target Range, Serpent Puzzle, and Slot Machine demo's allow you to 
  22. experience several small aspects of the frontier town of Diamondback, 
  23. New Mexico.  The full game has more than 35 talking characters, a fully 
  24. navigable 3-D environment, dozens of puzzles, and an easy-to-use 
  25. interface.  To order the full game, check with your local software 
  26. retailer or call 1-800-GTE-TODA.

  31. While playing the Windows version of Dust, you can use the
  32. following keys:
  33.  
  34.     Esc                    Skip the current animation, or stop
  35.                                  talking to the current character
  36.     Ctrl+F1 / Ctrl+F2      Increase/decrease the brightness of
  37.                                  the screen
  38.     Ctrl+F3 / Ctrl+F4      Increase/decrease the redness of the
  39.                                  screen
  40.     Ctrl+F5 / Ctrl+F6      Increase/decrease the greenness of
  41.                                  the screen
  42.     Ctrl+F7 / Ctrl+F8      Increase/decrease the blueness of the
  43.                                  screen

  46. Before you begin the demo, we ask for your patience when starting 
  47. and ending the program. Multiple double-clicks on the mouse button 
  48. when executing the demo may cause the game to work improperly. 
  49. Simply double click on bjacdemo.exe to start. Please don't double-click 
  50. it a second time before it starts.  When you're finished playing, wait 
  51. until you can click away the clear taskbar entry at the bottom of the 
  52. desktop to make sure the demo has quit. When trying to run a second 
  53. game immediately after the first game has ended please wait a few 
  54. seconds before clicking on the executable file again.

  56. If the screen is dark after quickly restarting, or you see only 
  57. small rectangles, hit the Alt-Tab keys to switch back to the desktop. 
  58. Then,  right click the mouse on the Blackjack Demo entry in the 
  59. taskbar to close.
