  20. 1. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  22. Windows 95
  23. Pentium 75MHz or faster
  24. 16MB RAM
  25. 33MB of hard disk space
  26. 4X CD-ROM drive or faster
  27. 640 x 480 in 256 color mode 
  28. Sound Blaster 16 and 100% Sound Blaster 16 compatible sound cards
  29. Video and Sound cards compatible with DirectX 3.0a or higher
  30.  
  31. *System Configuration:  May require minor adjustments to the 
  32. configuration of your operating system and/or updates to the hardware 
  33. component drivers.
  34. **If you experience problems with the installation or compatibility of 
  35. DirectX on your machine, please consult the hardware manufacturers 
  36. of your video or sound card.  You may also want to check MicrosoftÆs

  39. 2. PERFORMANCE RECOMMENDATIONS

  41. 640 x 480 mode is recommended as an expert mode option because of 
  42. the smaller viewing area.  In addition, there is no events field in this 
  43. video mode making the game even tougher.

  45. Turn off animated water on Pentium 75 and 90 machines.  To do so, at 
  46. the Game Screen (the screen on which you select sides and set game 
  47. options) select Edit Options, then Set Preferences. There is a check box 
  48. which allows you to turn off animated water.

  55. To Install the Program Manually from a CD-ROM 
  56.  
  57. Begin at the Windows 95 desktop, click the Start button on the taskbar 
  58. and choose Run.  Type D:\War3Demo\SETUP.EXE in the line labeled 
  59. Open.  (If your CD-ROM drive uses a letter other than D, substitute 
  60. that letter for D.)  Click the OK button and follow the on-screen 
  61. instructions to install the Warlords III Demo.

  63. To Play
  64. Begin at the Windows 95 desktop.  Click the Start button, point to 
  65. Programs, and then Red Orb Entertainment. Click the Warlords III 
  66. Demo menu item to start the program.

  68. To Uninstall
  69. If you need to uninstall the Warlords III Demo, begin at the Windows 
  70. 95 desktop.  Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then Control 
  71. Panel. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.  Click the 
  72. Install/Uninstall tab and select Warlords III Demo from the list of 
  73. programs. Click the Add/Remove button and then click the Yes button 
  74. to remove the program.

  76. 4.  ABOUT THE DEMO

  78. The Warlords III Demo will be available through selected publications.
  79.  
  80. You will find two scenarios in this demo.  Both are limited to single 
  81. player play.  In the full product you will have the opportunity to play 
  82. up to seven human opponents over IPX, TCP/IP over the Internet, as 
  83. well as Hotseat and direct serial and modem connection.

  85. The tutorial scenario provides an introduction to the basic elements of 
  86. game play of Warlords III. We recommend that you take the time to 
  87. play through the tutorial.  It is very helpful to introduce the product, 
  88. interface, and game play elements.

  90. The Elven Guardians scenario is also a great introductory scenario that 
  91. provides just enough challenge for both novice and experienced 
  92. Warlords.  The Elves have an edge.  So, if you are new to the game, 
  93. choose that side with the beginner option.  BorogÆs Tribe in the Psycho 
  94. mode is at a distinct disadvantage and should provide a hearty 
  95. challenge for even the most experienced Warlord.

  97. 5.  TROUBLESHOOTING

  99. Q: My demo doesnÆt install, what should I do? or, My demo installed 
  100. but it doesnÆt work.
  101. A: We plan to release an updated demo in the first week of July on the 
  102. Warlords III Web page.  The URL is  www.warlords3.com.  This 
  103. updated demo may solve some of your install or demo problems.  
  104. Q: When I try to start Warlords III: Reign of Heroes Demo, I receive 
  105. the message "Error Initializing Direct Draw,ö what do I do?
  106. A: It may be a DirectX incompatibility; please contact the hardware 
  107. manufacturer of the video card you have in your machine.  You may 
  108. also want to check MicrosoftÆs Web site for information.  It is also 
  109. likely that you have Windows set to display 16 colors.  Reset your 
  110. windows display to 256 color mode.

  114. If you have worked through these troubleshooting suggestions and still

  118. card and sound card you are using.  If possible, have the computer both 
  119. positioned near your phone and turned on.  Please also be prepared to

  121. program.
