Thank you for purchasing Phantasmagoria: A Puzzle of Flesh. In order for
you to receive the best possible performance, Sierra has included additional
technical tips and game information. The following supplemental information
should be considered part of the game documentation. This patch, when

To install this patch, reboot to DOS and follow the instructions outlined below:
1. Copy all patch files to an empty, temporary directory on your
hard drive.
2. Change to the directory where you've placed the patch files.
Launch the patch by typing PATCH and pressing Enter.
3. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete installation
WARNING TO WINDOWS 95 USERS:
Please note, games saved under the Win95 version are not compatinable
with the DOS version. To play the game under DOS begin the game anew.
Although this patch will work on machines running Windows 95, you may
encounter some difficulties if you run it from a DOS "box" (a DOS
prompt running in a window.) It is best to run the patch in MS-DOS mode.
To put your computer in MS-DOS mode, click on the "Start" button, and
choose "Shutdown", and select "Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode."
If you do run the patch from a DOS "box", you must make sure the "initial
environment" setting is large enough. To change this setting, right click
on your MS-DOS prompt shortcut, and choose "properties". Click on the
"Memory" tab. The "Initial environment" setting is at the top right of
the window. If it is set to "AUTO", the patch will probably fail to work.
You must set it to a number; 768 or higher will work for most systems.
Finally, this patch accesses your CD-ROM drive. Please note that if you
are running Windows 95, your Phantasmagoria: A Puzzle of Flesh CD will
probably attempt to auto-play when you insert it into the drive. You
must quit the autoplay dialog when it appears, otherwise the Patch Install
program will not have access to the drive.
HANDY TO KNOW
Do not remove the CD while playing the game unless you are prompted to do so.
Phantas is designed to be played in 16 bit (65535 colors) mode. Although it
will also operate in 256 color mode, the movie playback performance will be
degraded slightly. Running Phantas in other color modes, such as such as 16
million "true color" mode, may also result in degraded performance.
To fast-forward through the movies you've already seen before, click the mouse
button or press the ESC key on your keyboard. All movies that are important to
game play can be replayed via the movie playback dialog. To access this dialog,
begin the game and move the cursor to the upper left corner of the game's play
area. Clicking on the movie reel which appears will bring the movie playback
dialog up.
MEMORY TROUBLESHOOTING
Some game players have experienced getting enough free memory to run Phantas.
This usually occurs on computers with 12 megabytes of RAM, but can happen on
machines with more memory. If you are having trouble starting the game
because of memory problems or are receiving memory-related errors during the
game, please create a bootdisk.
