  24. Patch Installation.
  25. -------------------

  27. To apply this patch to your version of Alien Trilogy PC please follow
  28. these instructions:
  29.  
  30. 1) Run the patch executable, e.g ATUPDEU1.EXE, in a temporary directory
  31.    so that the following files are automatically extracted:
  32.

  34.                  INSTALL.DAT
  35.                  T16P.SHR
  36.                  T164.SHR
  37.                  T8P.SHR

  41.    [If you run the patch executable within your Alien Trilogy
  42.    directory you will find that you will be able to change between 16bit
  43.    and 8bit graphics by running INSTALL each time.]

  49.    When running the patch INSTALL program you must always have your
  50.    Alien Trilogy CDROM in your CDROM drive.

  59. We have made every attempt to make Alien Trilogy compatible with as
  60. many PC  system configurations as possible. This file contains some 
  61. important  information. It is important that you read this as there 
  62. may be some information critical to your PC configuration.

  173. Windows 95 Users

  176. To ensure that Alien Trilogy runs correctly on your particular set
  177. up, we advise you to run WTRILOGY.EXE or TRILOGY.PIF as this 
  178. should help to make the game run smoothly. You may find, however, 
  179. that in some rare occaisions the movies do not play correctly.

  186. CDROM Drives

  189. If you wish to install and run Alien Trilogy from a CDROM drive other
  190. than the first detected in your system, you can override this default
  191. choice by typing:

  193.         INSTALL CDOVERRIDE n:

  195.     where n: is the drive letter of the required CDROM drive.
  196.  
  197. Spacetec 360 users
  198. ------------------
  199.  
  200. You must run SPWTRIL.EXE to use the Spacetec 360 with Alien Trilogy.

  204. VFX-1 Headgear

  207. Please note that this hardware will only work in 256 color mode.

  209. Ensure that you have properly calibrated your VFX-1 before playing
  210. the game.

  212. Memory
  213. ------

  215. If you find that you are getting out of memory errors while running
  216. Alien Trilogy or movies, try some of the following:
  217.  
  218. 1) Before running Alien Trilogy type SET DOS4GVM=TRILOGY.@VMC (See
  219.    below)
  220. 2) Installing the program to run in 256 colours.
  221. 3) Booting from a clean floppy disk.
  222. 4) Removing memory resident programs.

  226. TRILOGY.VMC
  227. -----------

  229. You may need to edit this to get Trilogy to work on your system. The
  230. PhysMin is the amount of memory Trilogy requires. PhysMax is the
  231. amount of memory FREE on your system. We suggest you increase PhysMax
  232. until the program runs with the movies.

  236. Video Cards

  239. On some portable and laptop PCs you may find that your video set up
  240. will only run Alien trilogy in 256 colors.

  244. Installation Notes
  245. ------------------

  247. During installation, a file called TRILOGY.BAT is placed in the root
  248. of your C: drive (C:\TRILOGY.BAT). This file will not only execute
  249. Alien Trilogy for you but is used by some programs to locate the game
  250. on your system and indicate that a successful installation has taken
  251. place.
  252.  
  253. Removing this file will not stop you from playing the game but may
  254. make some periperhal programs believe that Alien Trilogy is not
  255. installed.

  260. Windows 95 and Gravis Pad
  261. --------------------------
  262.  
  263. If you have installed your Gravis Pad Windows 95 drivers, Alien
  264. Trilogy may not detect you have this hardware connected to your
  265. system. Run the disable utility that comes with your pad and Alien
  266. Trilogy will work correctly when you enter the Options screen.

  271. Customizing Alien Trilogy
  272. -------------------------

  274. Please be careful when changing any files.
  275.  
  276. You may make changes to the game by performing a full installation
  277. and editing the files on your hard disk. For example, to change the
  278. voices you should use a sound package to edit the files
  279. CD\SFX\VC???.RAW.
  280.  
  281. To change the sounds that the program loads up for each level, edit
  282. the associated text file. For example, to change the sound for the
  283. first level, edit CD\SFX\111SFX.TXT.
