IF IT IS OFF, NOTHING WILL BE HEARD AT ALL
UNLESS BACKGROUND SOUND IS SET TO
CD-STREAMED MUSIC.
WITH DIGITAL SOUND ON, YOU CAN SELECT YOUR
SOUND CARD FROM A LIST AND SET THE SETTINGS
FOR THIS CARD.
THE 'TEST' OPTION CAN BE USED TO CHECK YOUR
SETTINGS.
THE SOUND QUALITY CAN BE CHANGED TO GIVE
BEST PERFORMANCE FROM YOUR MACHINE - SLOW
MACHINES SHOULD SELECT 'LOW QUALITY',
FASTER MACHINES 'HIGH QUALITY'.

SOUND EFFECTS - MACHINERY NOISES WILL
BE HEARD WHILE

VIDEO
THIS SECTION HELPS DEAL WITH THE NUMBER
OF DIFFERENT VIDEO CARDS AVAILABLE TODAY.
THERE ARE TWO WAYS TO PLAY T-O-P:
VGA (320X200) AND SVGA (640X400).
VGA (320X200)
-------------
USE 320X200 IF:
A) YOU HAVE LESS THAN 8MB OF MEMORY,
OR
B) YOU HAVE 8MB OF MEMORY BUT DON'T
WANT TO RECONFIGURE YOUR MACHINE TO
RELEASE IT ALL
OR
C) YOUR VIDEO CARD DOESN'T SUPPORT SVGA,
OR
D) YOU WANT TO PLAY THE FASTEST VERSION
OF THE GAME.
THE 320X200 MODE DOES NOT NEED SETTING UP.
SVGA (640X400)
--------------
IF YOU ARE ABLE TO USE SVGA, YOU WILL HAVE
TO TELL T-O-P ABOUT YOUR CARD.
THE SAFEST METHOD OF RUNNING THE GAME IS
WITH '640X400 (NATIVE)' OR '640X480' AND
'SINGLE BUFFERED'.
HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT THE FASTEST WAY TO
RUN THE GAME, AND ONE OF THE DOUBLE
BUFFERED MODES MAY BE BETTER, IF THEY
WORK.
NOTE: IF YOU SELECT 'DOUBLE BUFFERED CRT'
YOU MUST SELECT THE 'TEST CRT PAGE
SWAPPING' OPTION TO CONFIGURE THIS.
'640X400 (FORCED)' IS FOR USERS WHO CAN'T
SELECT '640X400 (NATIVE)' BUT DON'T WANT
THE SMALLER DISPLAY OF '640X480'.
THIS MAY CRASH SOME VIDEO CARDS.
(TECHNICAL NOTE: THIS MODE USES 640X480
MODE AND FORCES IT INTO 640X400 MODE
USING THE C.R.T. REGISTERS.
IF YOUR VIDEO CARD IS NOT FULLY C.R.T.
COMPATIBLE THIS MAY CRASH THE SYSTEM.)
PALETTE CYCLING
---------------
T-O-P MAKES MANY CHANGES TO THE PALETTE
THROUGHOUT THE GAME AND ON SOME VIDEO
CARDS THIS MAY CAUSE 'NOISE' ON THE
SCREEN (WHITE SPECKS).
SWITCHING PALETTE CYCLING OFF MAY SOLVE
THIS PROBLEM.
·
GAME OPTIONS
THE IN-GAME OPTIONS ARE:
DIFFICULTY LEVEL:
ADJUST THE SLIDER FOR DIFFERENT LEVELS
OF DIFFICULTY.
TIMER:
THE LENGTH OF A BOUT; 30, 60 OR 90
UNITS LONG, OR FOREVER (OFF).
CINEMATICS:
SKIP THE VIDEO CLIPS THROUGHOUT THE
GAME.
BACKGROUND ANIMATION:
SWITCH THE BACKGROUND ANIMATION ON
OR OFF. THIS MAY SAVE MEMORY/SPEED.
PARALLAX SCROLLING:
(SVGA ONLY) PARALLAX SCROLLING ON
SLOW MACHINES MAY CAUSE THE GAME TO
SLOW DOWN UNACCEPTABLY.
SWITCHING OF SCROLLING GREATLY
INCREASES GAME SPEED.
