  1. Fix for Security Problem Now Available 
  2.  
  3. A serious security breach was discovered this week in several versions 
  4. of Microsoft Internet Explorer. You can now download a code fix for 
  5. the problem, which affects Internet Explorer 2.0, 3.0, and 3.01 for 
  6. Windows 95 and NT 4.0. For more details and to download the code fix, 
  7. visit our security update page. Microsoft strongly recommends that 
  8. users download the fix. Even though no customers have reported any 
  9. related problems to date, a malicious programmer could potentially 
  10. take advantage of the breach to cause serious damage to a userÆs 
  11. computer.

  13. Follow the instructions below to download the security fix for the 
  14. English version of Internet Explorer 3.0 and 3.01 for Windows 95 and 
  15. NT 4.0. (If you don't know which version of Internet Explorer you're 
  16. running, see the instructions at the bottom of the page below the 
  17. download links.)

  19. 1.Select the appropriate version of the fix from the options in the 
  20. grey box below.

  22. 2.On the page that appears, click one of the .exe links to begin your 
  23. download. A dialog box will appear asking if you want to Open the 
  24. fix, or Save it to your hard drive. 
  25. 3.If you choose to Open it, the fix will automatically install on your 
  26. computer. You must restart your computer in order for the fix to be 
  27. effective.

  29. 4.If you choose to Save the fix to your hard drive, you will be asked 
  30. to specify the folder you want to save it in.

  32. 5.Go to the folder and run the fix by clicking .exe file. Once the 
  33. fix has installed, restart your computer for the fix to become 
  34. effective.

  36. IMPORTANT: This security fix is designed for English versions of 
  37. Internet Explorer only. Do not attempt to install this upon 
  38. non-English versions. International versions are available from the 
  39. latest International language availability list.

  44. How do I find out which fix I should use for my version of 
  45. Internet Explorer? Here's how to tell which fix to use:

  47. 1.Click on "Help" in the top menu bar on your screen. 
  48.  
  49. 2.Click the "About Internet Explorer" menu item.

  51. 3.In the box that appears, look at the number in parentheses in the 
  52. second line of text.

  54. 4.If the last four digits are 1215 or higher, download the 3.01a 
  55. Security Fix.

  57. 5.If the number is between 1155 and 1158, download the 3.0a Security 
  58. Fix.
