Hasbro, the worldΓÇÖs largest toy and games company, which enjoys a long-standing reputation for providing great family entertainment, now offers the very best in interactive entertainment.
Originally known as Hassenfeld Brothers, Hasbro was founded in 1923 in Providence, Rhode Island by two Polish immigrants, Henry and Helal Hassenfeld.
The Hassenfeld Brothers first sold textile remnants and later manufactured pencil boxes covered with fabric remnants. The addition of pencils and other school supplies to the product line-up led to further expansion, which saw HasbroΓÇÖs annual sales grow to $500,000 by 1939.
HenryΓÇÖs sons, Harold and Merrill, joined the company in 1943 and it was under MerrillΓÇÖs leadership that Hassenfeld Brothers expanded into toys. In this new market, the company initially found success with Mr Potato Head the first toy ever to be TV advertised - and who, once more, is enjoying media success as one of the animated stars of Toy Story.
Between 1983 and 1991 Hasbro expanded through the acquisition of a number of ΓÇÿhousehold namesΓÇÖ, including Milton Bradley, Waddingtons, Kenner, Parker Brothers, Tonka and Playskool. Consequently, HasbroΓÇÖs product profile is now the most diverse and stable in the industry, appealing to consumers of every age, and including such family favourite games as Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Pictionary, Twister and Mousetrap and toys such as Sindy and Action Man.
Hasbro Interactive was established in January 1995 to develop interactive games for all leading hardware formats. Its debut products, Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit for PC CD-ROM, were well received by the market and in 1996 Hasbro Interactive is expanding this range with the launch of five further titles, Risk, Battleship, Cluedo, Yahtzee and Othello, all traditional strategy games given the interactive treatment.
Hasbro Interactive is committed to on-line and multiplayer gaming, and supports these options in it's software wherever appropriate.
