NOTES ON INSTALLATION
---------------------
Each of the installations affect performance in different ways, but
as a general 'rule of thumb'. 'The bigger the installation, the
better the performance'.
Regardless of which installation you choose EURO '96 needs
approximately 4Mb of free disk space to run. This is needed to
cache the large animations that are played on the menu screens.
MINIMUM
The minimum installation copies all the data files the game needs
to play on to your hard disk. All the speech, music and large
animations played in the menus remain on the CD. As a result of
this you may experience brief pauses during the game while extra
speech and animations are loaded.
STANDARD
The standard installation copies all the data files the game needs
to play and approximately 50% of the speech on to your hard disk.
The rest of the speech, the music and the large animations in the
menus remain on the CD. Pauses in the game will be less apparent
than with minimum installation, but may still exist.
MAXIMUM
The maximum installation copies all the data files the game needs
to play, approximately 75% of the speech and the digital music on
to hard disk. With this installation the game will rarely pause
when extra speech or animations are loaded.
The reason for the pauses occurring is because CD Players are a lot
slower at reading the data from the CD-ROM than your hard drive.

MEMORY PROBLEMS
To create more base memory run MEMMAKER at the DOS prompt (i.e.
C:\DOS:>MEMMAKER) and follow all the on screen instructions. Remove
any drivers that are not need in your autoexec.bat and config.sys
by editing these files. Where possible use the REM statement
instead removing the line. We recommend that you REM out the any
disk cache such as SMARTDRIVE, if you are having memory problems.
This program can take up a lot of memory. If you are not sure on
how to edit these files consult the manuals that came
SOUND
Q. My computer locks up when autodetecting sound cards in
setup.What's wrong?
A. Due to hardware conflicts, autodetecting for sound cards can be
risky process. If you know the brand, port address, IRQ, and DMA of
your sound card(s), it is recommended that you manually configure
these items. Lockups are also common when autodetection is used
when no sound cards are installed.
Q. Why don't I hear anything when I test my sound in setup?
A. You may have the wrong sound card selected, or incorrect port,
IRQ or DMA settings. Volume may be set too low in your sound
drivers (or the volume slider on the back of your sound card).
Hardware conflicts or loose cables may be to blame as well.
MOUSE
Q. My mouse does not work in DOS!
A. Chances are that you don't have the driver running, find the
directory for your mouse (usually MSMOUSE or MOUSE) and run
your mouse driver from there.
JOYSTICK
Q. I can't get my joystick to work, even when I calibrate it.
A. Make sure you have set the control method to joystick in the
player setup screen.
VIDEO CARDS
Q. My game crashes randomly, what's causing this?
A. This is often caused by out-of-date video drivers (Vesa). We
have included a program to help fix this problem. To run the
program make sure you are in DOS (don't run from Windows), then
move to the Euro '96 directory and at the prompt type VESAFIX. This
will run the program and fix the problem. If this doesn't cure the
problem you should contact your supplier for the latest version of
the drivers for your video card.
Q. The Menu screens are in black and White but the game's in colour!
A. Again, this is due to out-of-date drivers (Vesa), you should
contact your supplier for the latest version. Or you may have just
a VGA video card fitted in your machine and which doesn't support
high resolution 256 colours.
WINDOWS
When running in a windows environment always run the program from
the supplied .PIF files or shortcuts supplied.
