INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING NETMECH DOS
---------------------------------------
These instructions were written for users of the DOS operating system.
Users running under Windows 95 will need to open a DOS box or restart
in command-line only mode before proceeding. Please refer to the
Windows 95 documentation if you are unsure how to get to a command
prompt.
--- 1. DOWNLOAD NETMECH ONTO YOUR HARD DISK
NetMech is available in two formats:
- A single 11MB file (NM10.BIN) plus NM10.EXE
- Eight 1.44MB files (NM10_1.BIN ... NM10_8.BIN) plus NM10.EXE
We recommend downloading the eight smaller files rather than the one
big file if you are using a modem; that way, if one of the chunks gets
corrupted during download, you only have to re-download a small chunk.
--- 2. INSTALL NETMECH
- Stand-Alone
If you are NOT installing NetMech into the same directory as a previously
existing installation of MechWarrior 2, your installation process is
simplified. Change to the directory where you downloaded NetMech, and run
NM10.
example:
C:\> NM10
You will be prompted for the name of the directory to decompress into.
- Into A MechWarrior 2 Directory
If you plan to use NetMech in conjunction with MechWarrior 2, you will
need to install it into the same directory as MechWarrior 2. To do this,
copy all of the NetMech files you downloaded into your MechWarrior 2
directory, and then run NM10 with the -y option.
example:
C:\MECH2> NM10 -y
NOTE: If you don't run NM10 from the same directory as MECH2, but
you select that directory at the prompt, you will have to confirm
overwrites for a large number of files.
--- 3. CONFIGURE NETMECH FOR YOUR COMPUTER
Before you start playing NetMech, you will need to configure NetMech for
your particular hardware configuration.
Change to the directory where you installed NetMech, type INSTALL at
the command prompt, and press the ENTER key.
example:
C:\MECH2> INSTALL
This will launch the NetMech setup program. Follow the instructions that
are displayed. An explanation of the NetMech setup program can be found
in the NetMech documentation file, NETMECH.TXT. This file gets decompressed
along with the rest of the NetMech files when you have completed step 2 above.
--- 4. FIND SOMEONE TO PLAY AGAINST
Since NetMech is a multiplayer game, you will need to find an opponent before
you can play. If you don't know anyone else who has NetMech, visit the
NetMech web page, http://www.activision.com/netmech, or read the section
"Finding Other MechWarriors for Modem Games" in NETINFO.HLP or NETINFO.TXT.
