  10. after his ascension to the Macedonian throne, Alexander had
  11. either defeated or allied with the independent Greeks, the Thracians,
  12. the Persians, the Phoenecians, the Egyptians, the Bactrian tribes, and 
  13. the Indians. He was master of the known civilized world. You are given
