Labels:text OCR: KNOWING THE BASICS The three axes in which your plane can move are called ROLL, PITCH, AND YAW: AILERONS LLEVATOR RUDDER A ROLL PITCH YAW The side-to-side axis on the stick moves the AILERONS, flaps on the wings which roll you left and right. The ailerons are linked - when one moves up, the other moves down. The front-to-back axis on the stick moves the ELEVATOR, a horizontal tail flap. Forward lowers the elevator, pitching the nose down, and back raises it, pitching the nose up. The angle of the nose up or down is called "pitch attitude". The pedals control the RUDDER, a vertical tail flap. The left pedal angles the rudder left and yaws the plane left. Right rudder yaws the plane right.
