~Heroes Of Might And Magic
Strategy by NEW WORD COMPUTING
Reviewed by Lu Richardson
If you are a total fan of the Might & Magic series, as I am, then
you are in for a big disappointment. Don't rush out and buy it
thinking it's a first person view RPG, just like the other games we
knew and loved so much.
However, having said that, consider this product in isolation, on
it's own merits. It is exactly in the same format as Masters of
Magic, with shades of Warcraft: Orcs and Humans; you start with
your own castle, with the capability of building other structures
which will give you fighting units and magic spells. You can even
hire other heroes. From there on, you explore the hidden territory
revealing good and bad things - you can even move to other
dimensions.
The aim is to defeat one to four computer-generated opponents, and
in order to achieve this you have to conquer other villages and
castles and get them producing for your side. There are many
scenarios, each one different and progressively harder (i.e., you
start from scratch), and you can alter the degree of difficulty and
also the number of opponents and their strength.
The graphics are wonderfully detailed and the interface is quite
logical and easy - just point and click. Combat is very repetitive
and rather boring, if you discount the thrill of watching your lot
win or come close to losing.
So, if you enjoyed Masters of Magic, then you'll also like this
game. It is quite intriguing and entertaining and, to my mind, even
better than the other product; for one thing it has a few additional
features which take it that little bit further. To put it simply,
it's good fun.
