~Dune 2
Collection of tips.
~A Quick tip from Simon Bennett.
Don't waste time shooting at infantry and troppers, just run them
over with your harvester or heavy artillery !1
~Tips on playing as Harkonan obtaied via Netmail.
I found the Starports a godsend, mainly because you can nip in
and out (using F3 and R) until the price of what you require is
phenomenally low.
If you are playing the harkonned do not bother with Hi-Tec
factories as you cannot build ornithopters (deadly when used
well) and you can get cheap Carryalls form the Starport.
Try to send three wheelers towards the enemy base and hunt down
the Construction yard, keep it moving in straight lines as
turning wastes time, do not do this at the start as finding
their base results in them launshing a front against you.
If you have Deathhands, blow the Construction yard sky high,
then work onto defenses, heavy vehicle factories.... Don't
bother with Wind Traps as these don't appear to do anything for
the enemy.
Attacking is easier if you build a minimally equiped second base
closer to the enemy (Minimally... Power, repair factory, Heavy
vehicle factory) Move a good force of mostly rocket tanks,
siege tanks (Or devastators) around the back and a few to the
front. Use the ones at the front to pick at the turrets, keeping
out of range if pos., and to draw vehicles away. Then pump
Turrests, Factories full of all the ordanance you've got.
If spice is running low, post a few vehicles near all the spice
to shoot any enemy Harvesters, and capture their silos if pos.
(Shoot with normal tanks, when on red send in a foot unit). As
this can help the 'ol bank balance.
As for your own base, build them compact if you wish, but later
on the emporors palace would appear to be able to fire death
hands too so try to separate important bits out. Walls are not
strictly nescesary but if they make you feel more comfortable do
so. Don't build rocket turrets until you know where the enemy
attack from, then you can use them to the max. effect.
Misc help:
Use the Hotkeys they're way quicket and better.
Remember that if you have destroyed an enemies second base, if
the enemy has another construction yard, he can rebuild that
base on any 'crete or whatever standing (As can you!). So if you
have spare units get 'em to shoot the left over walls and
'crete.
Keep an eye out for bubbles of sand, as on the last level with
you, sardarkaur (Emporor) Ordos and Atreides spice is at a
premium. It is worth noticing that the computer does not attack
the bubbles of sand, which means that you can save it and shoot
it when it is really needed.
On the last level try to destroy the palaces, as they cause
mucho bother, get the construction yards first, then use
deathands on the palaces (Nothing else, as they're free to
repair and the deathands work with one hit).
It also appears that on the last level one construction yard can
be used by all the races present (Scream, this was noted playing
just now), oh and don't fire a deathand if you're radar is down!
Hope it's some help, I had a quick half hour play on the last
level to remind me of some of the tactics, another curious thing
is that military tactics (Rear guard actions etc.) actually
work!
