This README file contains general information about the
enhancements and changes made in Presentations 3.0 for Windows
(PRWin) after the User's Guide was printed.

THE DDEML.DLL FILE
==================
We are aware of conflicts with a Windows file titled DDEML.DLL
dated 4/22/92.  The correct version of this file should be found
in your Windows System directory (for example,
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM).  If the above file is found in your Windows
directory, and the correct version is found in the Windows System
directory, the file will be automatically deleted from the
Windows directory.

MACRO HELP
===========
If you are installing PRWin 3.0 for the first time on your
system, and you choose the standard installation, the Online
Macros Manual (or Macros Help) will not be installed.  The PRWin
3.0 Online Macros Manual is available only under a custom
installation.

ERROR 21 WITH WINDOWS HP LASERJET 4 DRIVERS
===========================================
If an Error 21 occurs while you are printing graphics at 600 dpi
resolution on an HP LaserJet 4 family printer (while using the
Windows printer driver), we recommend that you make the following
changes to the driver settings to possibly allow the document to
print.

1    In Presentations, choose Print from the File menu, then choose
     Select.

2    Highlight the appropriate HP LaserJet 4 Windows printer in
     the Specific Printer list box.

     or

     Select Windows Default Printer.

3    Choose Setup from the Options drop-down list, then choose
     Options.

4    Change the Graphics Mode from HP-GL/2 to Raster, then
     choose OK.

5    Choose OK to exit the Setup dialog box.  If  your printer
     has additional memory, you may consider turning on the page
     protection option before exiting the Setup dialog box, then
     try printing the graphic again.

6    Choose Close to return to your Presentations document.


CUSTOM WINDOWS COLOURS IN HELP
=============================
The PRWin Help screens were designed to use specific colours for
background, text, and so on.  However, if you have customised
your Windows colours, and you would like to use those colours in
the Help screens in PRWin, you can do so by inserting the
following line in the [Windows Help] section of your WIN.INI
file:

     Colours=None

OPTIMISING PRWin 3.0
====================
Many performance issues can be resolved by configuring your
computer to run optimally under Windows.  As a starting point, we
suggest the following:

- Use a disk cache such as SmartDrive.

- Set up a permanent swap file.  For example, one common
configuration is to have the total of your computer's physical
RAM and your swap file equal 16M.

- Have an adequate FILES statement in your CONFIG.SYS file.  We
recommend 50 or more if you are running Windows applications.

For additional information on optimizing Windows, please refer to
your Windows documentation.

   In addition to the above changes, the WIN_DDE and WIN_CLIPBOARD
   settings must be "On" (the default setting). If you have modified
   these defaults on either the 3.1 Session or Data Exchange pages
   of the "Win-OS/2 Setup" object, you will get the error message
   "PRWin cannot communicate with the WorkPlace Shell."


   Colour Palette Problems

   Use the /sw switch on the command line to prevent colour
   palette problems when running Seamless Windows on the OS/2
   WorkPlace Shell.


   Printing from the Network

   If you are having difficulty printing from an LPTx: printer
   port when using a network printer, try using the
   corresponding LPTx.OS2 printer port.

SHARED CODE LOCATION AND UNC PATHS
==================================
If you are using GroupWise 4.1 and/or WPWin 6.0a, UNC paths
should NOT be specified for the location of Shared Code.  If
UNC is used, these apps will not start unless 2.3 Shared Code
is already running.

SLIDE SERVICE BUREAU INFORMATION
=================================================================
If you wish to make slides with Presentations 3.0 for Windows
but do not have access to a film recorder, a slide service bureau
could produce your slides.

To use a slide service, you need to save and send your files in a
specified format.  Before you send your files, contact your slide
service to determine the preferred file format, speed of
turnaround, and shipping preferences.

slides with Presentations 3.0 for Windows.  This list is not
inclusive; there may be slide service bureaus in your local area
capable of creating slides from your files.
