README.WIN 12/09/94
=================================================================
This README file contains the following information for GroupWise
4.1a for Windows:
1 Notes for GroupWise Quicklook
2 Enhancements added to GroupWise 4.1a for Windows
3 Enhancements added to GroupWise 4.1 for Windows
4 Corrections to Documentation
5 GroupWise Remote Changes
=================================================================
1 Notes for GroupWise Quicklook
=================================================================
The Quicklook that ships with the PerfectOffice suite is intended
to be a demo version only of the functionality between GroupWise
and the other suite products.
The Quicklook can be used as a client on a real post office, but
it is not recommended. Some features are not available with
the Quicklook. Installing the Quicklook version over an existing
client version may not produce good results. Print Calendar and
file viewing may not work as well as the regular GroupWise client.
If the Quicklook is installed over an existing version of
GroupWise, the post office may prompt the user to update to the
version on the post office. To prevent this update dialog, use
REGEDIT /V and set the version number under WPOFFICE40 to 12.

2 ENHANCEMENTS ADDED TO GROUPWISE 4.1a FOR WINDOWS
=================================================================
SHARED PROGRAM FILES
===========================
GroupWise ships with version 2.3 of the Shared Program Files.
The Shared Program Files add the following enhancements to
GroupWise:
New Control 3D look on dialogs and windows.
New button bar look.
Dialog editor for macros.
ODMA
===========================
Groupwise now integrates with the ODMA document management API
specification. With this integration, files can be saved and
retrieved from a document management system from within
Groupwise. A BIF setting has been added to control whether to
always use the document management system as a default, or to
first display the regular file open/save dialogs. This setting
can be changed from a Destination menu in the Save dialog if the
ODMA dialog is present. (DMSRestrict=TRUE/FALSE) A TRUE setting
will bring up the document management system in place of File
Open/Save dialogs. A FALSE setting brings up the Open/Save
dialogs with a DocMgr button to get to the document manager.
QUICKCORRECT
===========================
QuickCorrect now uses a common datafile with other PerfectOffice
applications using speller and QuickCorrect.
UNC PATHNAMES
===========================
The /WPC switch now accepts UNC pathnames.
SORTING OPTIONS
===========================
Sorting options in item list controls (inbox, outbox) is now
sticky.
REMOTE
===========================
Performance has been improved and background processing has been
added.
CUSTOM VIEWS
===========================
Custom calendar views for SVGA have been added to the custom
views disk. These filenames start with SVGA. (SVGA*.vew).
=================================================================
3 ENHANCEMENTS ADDED TO GROUPWISE 4.1 FOR WINDOWS
=================================================================
COACHES
===========================
GroupWise includes several Coaches to guide you through the more
advanced features. You can find Coaches in the Help menu.
SIMPLE MAPI
===========================
GroupWise now includes support for Simple MAPI.
SHELF ICON PROPERTIES
===========================
You can now include command line variables and the working
directory in the Shelf Icon Properties for applications you place
on the Shelf.
PASSWORD FOR ROUTED ITEMS
===========================
You can now require recipients of a routed item to type their
mailbox password before completing and sending on a routed item.
DELETING A FOLDER
==========================
When you delete a folder from your folder list, GroupWise now
displays the number of items and folders that will be deleted
when you delete the folder.
.INI FILES
==========================
GroupWise no longer uses .INI files to store initialization
information. GroupWise now use a .BIF file (WPCSET.BIF) to
record your initialization information. WPCSET.BIF records the
initialization information for GroupWise.
Note--If you use the /nt startup switch to specify the network
type, GroupWise creates a new .BIF file with a new filename.
STARTUP OPTIONS
==========================
The startup option /lang-xx has been changed to /l-xx.
The startup option /@n has been changed to /la.
The startup option /bl (bypass logo) has been added.
WINDOWS FOR WORKGROUPS
==========================
If you are using Windows for Workgroups and are having a
difficult time logging in, have your system administrator change
your Windows for Workgroups login ID to match your GroupWise
Network ID as defined in the GroupWise Administration program.
=================================================================
4 CORRECTIONS TO DOCUMENTATION FOR GROUPWISE 4.1
=================================================================
RETRACTING NOTES
==========================
Formerly, retracting a note was similar to retracting a mail
message; you could only retract it if the recipient had not yet
opened it. Retracting a note is now like retracting an
appointment or a task; you can delete it from the recipient's
mailbox whether the recipient has opened it or not.
=================================================================
5 GROUPWISE 4.1 REMOTE CHANGES
=================================================================
ADDRESS BOOK
==========================
You can sort the Address Book by first name or last name. This
is available only in GroupWise Remote.
ADDITIONAL .BIF SETTINGS
==========================
You can add the Database Rebuilds section to the WPOffice Group
to have GroupWise verify the integrity of and correct any
problems with your remote mailbox when you start GroupWise
Remote. After GroupWise Remote has successfully rebuilt the
mailbox specified in the values, the Database Rebuilds section
is completely removed from the .BIF file.
To rebuild your remote mailbox database,
1 Start the BIF Editor, then open your private .BIF file.
2 Select the WPOffice folder, then choose Insert.
3 Type "Database Rebuilds" without the quotation marks in the
Section field.
4 Type the path to the database including the ROFDATA
subdirectory in the Item field.
5 Select the Boolean for the value.
6 Choose True to check and repair the structure of the
database or False to check and repair the contents in the
database.
7 Choose OK, then choose Close.
8 Start GroupWise Remote to check and rebuild the database.
