  25.  
  26. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying it.
  27. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected to
  28. register. Individual programs differ on details -- some request registration
  29. while others require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  30. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue using the
  31. software to an updated program and a printed manual.

  33. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and retail software, and the
  34. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as stated
  35. below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like retail
  36. authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are
  37. good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  38. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute
  39. the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For example,
  40. some authors require written permission before a commercial disk vendor may
  41. copy their Shareware.

  43. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find
  44. software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's retail or
  45. Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you
  46. can try before you buy. And because the overhead is lower, prices are lower
  47. also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  48. product, you don't pay for it.

  112.                  Installing Professional Capture Systems
  113.  
  114. Before you can use the Professional Capture Systems you have to run the setup
  115. program from Windows so it will work properly on your computer.
  116.  
  117. 1.  Start Windows.
  118.  
  119. 2.    Place the Professional Capture Systems Diskette in the Floppy Drive.
  120.  
  121. 3.    Make Windows' "Program Manager" the active window.
  122.  
  123. 4.  From Windows' "Program Manager", select "File", then select "Run".
  124.     This will open the "Run" dialog box.
  125.  
  126.     Type the drive letter of the floppy drive followed by ":SETUP.EXE".
  127.     For example, if the diskette is in drive A, type "A:SETUP.EXE".
  128.     When you're done, click on the OK Button, or press <Enter>.

  130. 5.  When you select the OK Button, Windows will close the File Run Dialog
  131.     Box and load SETUP.EXE. The Professional Capture Systems Setup Screen
  132.     will appear, then the setup program will prompt you to enter the drive
  133.     and directory:

  135.     By default, the drive and directory for Professional Capture Systems are
  136.     set to C:\PCS. If you want to install Professional Capture Systems
  137.     somewhere else, type the drive and directory now. When you're done, click
  138.     on the OK Button, or press <Enter>.
  139.     The setup program will install the files in the location you entered, and
  140.     will keep you posted on its progress:

  142. 6.    Add Professional Capture Systems to Program Manager.
  143.  
  144.     When it's done installing Professional Capture Systems's files, the setup
  145.     program will ask if you want to add Professional Capture Systems to your
  146.     Program Manager:
  147.  
  148.     Select the No Button to continue without adding it. See the next step
  149.     below.

  151.     Select the Yes Button to add Professional Capture Systems.

  153.     Selecting a Program Manager Group
  154.     If you choose to add Professional Capture Systems to your Program Manager,
  155.     the setup program will prompt you to select a group:
  156.  
  157.     By default, the setup program creates a new group entitled "Professional
  158.     Capture Systems". You can select a different group from the Group Drop Down
  159.     Box.
  160.  
  161.     Click on the drop down box to open it, click on the group that you want to
  162.     select, then click on the OK Button.

  164. 7.    Close the Completion Prompt.
  165.     When installation has been completed, you will receive the following prompt.
  166.     To close the prompt, click on the OK Button, or press <Enter>.

  173. The user's manual is one of the files that will be unpacked and placed on
  174. your working disk when you run the SETUP program. The file is PCS.TXT.
  175. It is a text file.

  178. will receive a fully illustrated, printed User's Guide.

  210. You are encouraged to pass a copy of the shareware verison of Professional
  211. Capture Systems along to your friends for evaluation.

  213. If you do so, you must provide them with the entire set of Professional
  214. Capture Systems shareware version files. These include:

  222. Do not simply copy the files off your hard drive. Professional Capture Systems
