  24. Please note that from version 1.3 on ScreenSaver is Shareware not Freeware.
  25. If you intend to use the program for more than 30 days of testing, you
  26. have to register. There are some features that are only available to
  27. registered users.

  29. SHORT DESCRIPTION:

  32. ScreenSaver is an easy-to-use 32-bit screen saver for OS/2.
  33.  
  34. When ScreenSaver is started, it monitors your keyboard and mouse activity
  35. in the backgound. If there has not been any activity for some time, the saver
  36. becomes active. It stays active until the mouse is moved or clicked or a key
  37. is pressed. You can set various options by double clicking ScreenSaver in the
  38. window list (press Ctrl+Esc to show the window list). If you want to quit
  39. ScreenSaver, press the "Exit ScreenSaver" button in the configuration panel.
  40. ScreenSaver has the advantage of low memory consumption and very low CPU usage
  41. - this means virtually no performance impact on your normal work.
  42. ScreenSaver has a very modular structure: It searches its directory for saver
  43. modules and selects a module randomly when the saver becomes active. Therefore
  44. it is very easy to extend ScreenSaver by just copying new saver modules to its
  45. directory.
  46. There is password protection similar to the OS/2 lockup feature. For default
  47. password, see online help. The password is case-sensitive.
  48. There is DPMS support for "Green" monitors.
  49. New in version 2.3 is support for DOS fullscreen sessions.
  50. In version 2.2, there is support for Win-OS/2 fullscreen sessions.
  51. It is possible to use Deskpic modules with ScreenSaver. Just copy them
  52. to the ScreenSaver directory.
  53. Sample source code for do-it-yourself saver modules comes with the
  54. distribution; see the online help topic "Creating new saver modules"
  55. for information on how to do create your own modules.
  56. Even for people who don't know anything about programming it is possible to
  57. create their own saver modules; see the online help topic "Creating bitmap
  58. saver modules" for more information.

  62. INSTALLATION:
  63. =============

  65. Unpack the file SSAVER22.ZIP into some directory on your hard disk (I guess
  66. you have done that already since you are reading this file).
  67. Use the program INSTALL.EXE to continue installation.
  68.  
  69. If you already have installed an earlier version of ScreenSaver, run
  70. INSTALL.EXE to continue installation.
  71.  
  72. ScreenSaver was tested on OS/2 2.1, OS/2 2.11 and OS/2 Warp Version 3;
  73. it is likely to work with OS/2 2.0, too. Monitoring of fullscreen sessions
  74. works only for OS/2 2.1 or higher.

  76. KNOWN BUGS:
  77. ===========
  78. A few users have reported problems with some Deskpic modules. If a Deskpic
  79. module crashes on your system, delete the corresponding DSS file.
  80.  
  81. There was a problem reported that the mouse gets stuck when using some OS/2
  82. fullscreen applications when "fullscreen monitoring" is enabled. If this
  83. happens, please disable fullscreen monitoring. I am working on a solution.
  84. (I know of problems with the applications Hyperaccess/2 and ADU).
