  34. SECTION  1 - INTRODUCTION
  35.  
  36. If you have purchased the ALPHABrowser, a Serial Number or Numbers, along 
  37. with the corresponding Activation Key(s) will have been supplied with the 
  38. product.  You are restricted by the License to only install the ALPHABrowser 
  39. software on one remote system for each License you have purchased.  If you
  40. are evaluating the software, you may install on as many remote systems as you
  41. wish.  The evaluation period will expire 30 days after installation.

  43. JSB is committed to enhancing the ALPHABrowser.  You may like to access JSB's 
  44. Web or FTP sites periodically to download later versions of the ALPHABrowser, 
  45. located at:

  51. SECTION  2 - CONFIGURING THE ALPHABROWSER
  52.  
  53. The ALPHABrowser has 2 ASCII text configuration files associated with it,
  54. "color.cfg" and "alphabrw.cfg," located in the default browser sub-directory
  55. e.g. "/usr/jsbwww/browser".
  56.  
  57. "alphabrw.cfg" determines the printer, file downloading mechanism and the 
  58. default browser start-up file.
  59.  
  60. "color.cfg" determines the colors to be used by the terminal (if your terminal
  61. supports color).
  62.

  64. SECTION  3 - RUNNING THE ALPHABROWSER
  65.  
  66. To run the ALPHABrowser, type:
  67.        alphabrowser
  68.  
  69. Press "m" when the ALPHABrowser completes loading and select "Open Location" 
  70. from the menu.
  71.  
  72. Enter the URL for the site that you want to access in the form 
  73. "http://remote_system_name:port/filename" as shown in the following
  74. examples.

  80. You must include the "http://" portion of the URL.

  82. SECTION  4 - ALPHABROWSER TROUBLESHOOTING
  83.  
  84. 1.  The ALPHABrowser will not start.  The following message will be displayed:
  85.  
  86.     THERE IS NO TERMINAL DEFINITION ...
  87.  
  88.  
  89.     Possible reasons:
  90.  
  91.     a.  The environment variable $TERM has not been set up.
  92.     b.  You do not have read permissions for
  93.          "/usr/jsbwww/browser/window/$TERM".
  94.     c.  Your terminal is not supported, i.e. there is no corresponding file in 
  95.         "/usr/jsbwww/browser/window."  Currently supported terminals are
  96.         Wyse 60, Wyse 370, DEC VT100, VT220, VT241, VT320, VT420, IBM 3151,
  97.         SCO ANSI color console, and terminals that emulate the preceding.
  98.     d.  The environment variable $WWWDIR has not been set up.  (Only applies
  99.         if the browser directory for the ALPHABrowser is not installed in the 
  100.         default of "/usr/jsbwww").

  103.     Try:
  104.  
  105.     a.  Set $TERM
  106.     b.  Check file permissions
  107.     c.  Use a different terminal emulation
  108.     d.  Set $WWWDIR
  109.  
  110.  
  111. 2.  Keystrokes being misinterpreted over slow connections
  112.  
  113.  
  114.     Problems may be experienced over slow network or modem connections with
  115.     the ALPHABrowser misinterpreting arrow keys etc. in the menus.
  116.  
  117.     This problem can be remedied by increasing the number of times the 
  118.     ALPHABrowser tries to read characters from the terminal before giving up.
  119.  
  120.     An environment variable W_TM can be defined before running the ALPHA-
  121.     Browser which will increase the number of read attempts. A typical value
  122.     of 10 works well with slow 2400 bps modems.
  123.  
  124.     The variable should be set using the following commands;
  125.  
  126.     Bourne and Korn shell            C shell
  127.     ---------------------            -------

  129.     W_TM=10; export W_TM            setenv W_TM 10

  132. SECTION  5 - TECHNICAL TIPS

  135. SECTION  6 - UPGRADING ALPHABROWSER LICENSES
  136.  
  137. To upgrade the ALPHABrowser license, change to the directory where the
  138. ALPHABrowser is installed (normally "/usr/jsbwww").
  139. e.g. cd /usr/jsbwww
  140.  
  141. Run the license upgrade script by typing:
  142.     ./jsb.license
  143.  
  144. Enter the new Serial Number and the corresponding Activation Key when
  145. prompted.
  146.  
  147.  
  148. SECTION  7 - NEW AT THIS RELEASE
  149.  
  150. 1.  Documents at several web sites include control-Z as a file terminator.
  151.     On Wyse 60 terminals, this character blanks the screen completely.
  152.     This release has a workaround for the problem.
  153.  
  154.  
  155. SECTION  8 - KNOWN PROBLEMS
  156.  
  157. 1.  The Wyse 60 cursor keys do not send standard ANSI sequences by default.
  158.     ALPHABrowser will reprogram these keys when it starts and return them
  159.     to the default settings when it exits.  If you invoke a shell session
  160.     from within ALPHABrowser, the cursor keys will still send the new
  161.     sequences.  This could lead to improper operation of applications run
  162.     this way.

  164. 2.  The Wyse 55 terminal does not have a native personality.  If you specify
  165.     wy55 or wyse55 as your terminal type (TERM environment variable)
  166.     ALPHABrowser will assume you are using the Wyse 60 personality.  If you
  167.     use one of the other personalities supported by ALPHABrowser, you must
  168.     set the TERM environment variable accordingly.
