****************************************************************************
3.1 Windows socket support
3.2 Easier installation
3.3 Improved terminal emulator performance
3.4 High performance network printing
3.5 Improved performance using Host Support
3.6 DEC VT320 and VT420 support
3.7 Extended key mapping and programming
3.8 Improved font support
3.9 SCO color console support
3.10 Technical help file
3.11 NVT2 support over IPX/SPX
3.12 New ICL Oslan support
3.13 Maximizing a terminal window fills the display
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.1 Windows socket support.
JSB MultiView DeskTop will now Windows Sockets enable your PC, allowing you
to support a multitude of Winsock applications, such as the explosion in
Internet utilities, and freely available shareware utilities.
This can be installed in two ways :-
If you install the JSB supplied TCP/IP stack this now includes a Windows
Sockets interface.
If you have an existing legacy TCP/IP stack supported by DeskTop, this will
now Windows Sockets enable it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.2 Easier installation.
A simpler and more intuitive installation procedure which is aware of the
networked environment you may be using, ensures 'out of the box'
installation is even easier. From opening the box to installing on an
existing transport takes less than 4 minutes, and only 5 minutes if the JSB
TCP/IP transport is installed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.3 Improved terminal emulator performance.
Terminal emulators are now 30% faster than the previous release.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.4 High performance network printing.
Support has been added for the popular UNIX network printing utilities LPR
and LPD, these provide higher performance and simpler printer management
between PC and UNIX systems over a TCP/IP network.
The new improved remote printing support utilizing LPR functionality to
print over TCP/IP is over 300% faster than the mechanism previously
provided.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.5 Improved performance using Host Support.
Performance improvements to the Host Support connectivity have resulted in
significant gains when using File Transfer and Remote printing.
PC -> UNIX file transfers are now up to 95% faster and Remote printing,
PC -> UNIX are now up to 90% when compared with the previous release.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.6 DEC VT320 and VT420 support.
The existing comprehensive range of terminal emulations has been further
enhanced by the addition of new DEC VT320 and VT420 terminal emulations,
giving you even more choice.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.7 Extended key mapping and programming.
The key mapping and programming facility has been improved, there is now a
choice of over 300 keys which can be mapped and programmed using the DeskTop
interface, providing even greater flexibility for customizing applications
and the user interface.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.8 Improved font support.
The font range has been expanded with the addition of 4 new font styles, and
extended point sizes for existing styles for VGA and SVGA video display
drivers, allowing optimum use of the display real estate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.9 SCO color console support.
SCO color console now available as a standard terminal type.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.10 Technical help file.
A new technical help file for the advanced DeskTop user or system
administrator, simplifies complex configuration features.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.11 NVT2 support over IPX/SPX.
Support is now provided for the latest NVT (Novell Virtual Terminal version
2) protocol over IPX/SPX, this is the protocol used to provide terminal
emulation services on UnixWare hosts or other UNIX systems supporting
Portable NetWare. DeskTop automatically detects and supports NVT1 or NVT2
transparently without the user needing to intervene, thereby allowing
support for mixed networks.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.12 New ICL Oslan support.
ICL Oslan is now supported at this release of DeskTop. DeskTop interfaces to
OSLAN via Interrupt 5B. This is also referred to as the Transport Service
Interface (TSI) in the OSLAN documentation. DeskTop only supports the null
network layer protocol at this release, as described in the OSLAN
documentation. Since DeskTop is a Windows application, you must use either
the OSLAN for Windows option that uses a VxD or the Virtual TSI Windows
device driver.
Although this new support has only been validated against ICL Oslan version
4, it should work with previous versions that have inherent support for
Windows.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.13 Maximizing a terminal window fills the display
Maximizing a terminal window using the maximize button now occupies the
full height and width of the display.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
4.40 User defined timeout period for TCP/IP stacks.
Problem: If a host is not available for some reason, perhaps it is not
switched on, when a connection is attemped the PC appears to freeze
for a time. The amount of time the PC is frozen before an error
message is displayed is dependant upon the TCP/IP being used, with
some TCP/IP stacks the PC stays frozen and the PC has to be re-booted.
The default timeout can be shortened to a user-defined period via a
VSL.INI keyword. You must edit the VSL.INI file, which is located
in the Windows directory. Add a line of the following format to
the section that starts with [winsock-transport].
private= /tn
(the value 'n' indicates that n second(s) timeout should be used).
Status: Fixed.
