  13. Help system or the printed documentation. For easier reading enlarge

  17. PART 1  - Installation issues at this release

  28. 1.1  Upgrading DeskTop While DeskTop is running

  35. 1.1  Upgrading DeskTop While DeskTop is running.
  36.  
  37. Installing DeskTop whilst DeskTop is running may cause the
  38. installation process to fail.  To overcome this close DeskTop
  39. before upgrading.

  41. 1.2  Installing DeskTop over a previous version.
  42.  
  43. 1.2.1 It is possible to install this version of DeskTop over the
  44. previous versions 3.7.0, 4.0, 4.01, 4.2x and 5.x The configuration
  45. files including WMGR.RC will be left intact and the MVIEW.INI will
  46. be upgraded.

  48. 1.2.2 It is also possible to install this version of DeskTop over
  49. the DeskTop element of the previous version of MultiView/X, version
  50. 2.02, 4.x and 5.x.
  51.  
  52. 1.2.3 It is not possible to install this version of DeskTop over
  53. versions prior to 3.7.0. Any old configurations will need
  54. re-configuring when the new
  55. version is installed.

  57. 1.3  Removing DeskTop.
  58.  
  59. There are two locations where DeskTop files are kept, the
  60. installation directory (usually C:\MVW) and the Windows directory
  61. (usually C:\WINDOWS).
  62.  
  63. The relevant files in both locations will have to be deleted.
  64.  
  65. DeskTop directory:
  66.  
  67. The contents of this directory and any sub-directories below it must be
  68. deleted.
  69.  
  70. Windows directory:
  71.  
  72. The files below may exist in the windows directory and need to be
  73. deleted:
  74.  
  75.         MVIEW.INI
  76.         BUTTONS.INI
  77.         VSL.INI
  78.         JSBRPRNT.INI
  79.         MSOCKLIB.DLL
  80.         MWINSOCK.DLL
  81.         MVWLPD.INI
  82.  
  83. NB. Removal of these files should be carried out without Windows
  84. running.

  86. Additionally, remove any DeskTop setting in your C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT.
  87.  
  88. If you are running DeskTop on Windows 95 or NT4W, additional LPR
  89. files will need to be removed
  90.  
  91. LPR Uninstall for Windows 95 and NT4 - From DeskTop 5.04
  92.  
  93. There is now an option to un-install the 32bit DeskTop LPR system on
  94. Windows 95 and NT4. Please select Add/Remove Programs from the Windows
  95. Control Panel and select Remove "JSB LPR Port Monitor". Shared
  96. files may be in use you may be asked to restart your system.

  98. LPR Uninstall for Windows 95 and NT4 - Prior to DeskTop 5.04
  99.  
  100. The following additional DLL's will be located in your Windows System
  101. directory, usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.

  103. Prior to DeskTop 5.02

  105.         MVPMON.DLL
  106.         MVLPR.DLL
  107.  
  108. From DeskTop 5.02
  109.  
  110.         MVWPMON.DLL
  111.         MVWLPR.DLL
  112.         MVWRES.DLL

  114. These are shared files used in conjuction with the Windows 95
  115. and NT4W printing system. In order to delete the DLL's you may
  116. need to action this in Command  Mode, i.e. DOS.

  119. 1.4  Upgrading Windows 3 to Windows 95 or NT4W When DeskTop is
  120.      installed
  121.  
  122. Because of changes made to the LPR/LPD component of DeskTop 5.00
  123. running under Windows 95 or NT4W, if an upgrade from Windows 3 to
  124. Windows 95 or NT4W is made the LPR/LPD components will be incorrect.
  125. To install the 32bit components edit MVIEW.INI and change the line
  126.  
  127.         MDTVersion=5.05
  128. to
  129.         MDTVersion=5.04
  130.  
  131. Insert your DeskTop 5.05 media and run setup. Once the installation
  132. is complete the LPR/LPD will have been updated to run the 32bit
  133. support.

  135. 1.5  Choosing your Network Support
  136.  
  137. During setup you will be asked for the type of Network you will be running.
  138.  
  139. For Windows users using the supplied "Cisco Suite 100 TCP/IP" select
  140. "Winsock TCP/IP 1.1".
  141.  
  142. For Windows  95 and NT4W  users who are running Windows TCP/IP support
  143. "Winsock TCP/IP 1.1" should also be selected.
