After installation of FAXmaker, you must be sure to install the FAXmaker printer driver following the printer driver installation instructions below. The printer driver is used to send out coverpages & convert attachments, and therefore you will need to do this before you send a fax.

After configuring the fax settings, you must configure at least one user in the User configuration application.
After doing this you can start the FAXmaker MTA and the FAXmaker Fax server.
- If the service won't start -
If either of the services won't start, error 2000 will be generated, which means that you must check the NT error log for more information. If you are not using NT, load the FAXmaker monitor and check its error log, located underneath the port status dialog.
Please keep the following in mind;
a. The FAXmaker fax service won't start if you haven't configured at least one port first.
b. If you are installing FAXmaker a second time, you need to either remove the old installation or rename the services. You can not have multiple services with the same name in NT!

GENERAL ISSUES
--- Checking modem compatibility
GFI does not recommend using class 1 modems as fax server devices. If you wish to use a particular modem, you must check whether it is a class 2 or 2.0 compatible You can do this by issueing the AT+FCLASS=? command in terminal. If it returns 2 or 2.0 as one of the supported modes, it is either class 2 or class 2.0 compatible.
If it returns only 0 and 1, then you can not use this modem with FAXmaker.
The FAXmaker for Networks 6 services have to be uninstalled manually from the registry. The procedure to remove the FAXmaker services is as follows:
1) Run the registry editor. To do this Click on the Start button and select run. Enter the command 'REGEDT32' and select OK.
2) Select the window options (ALT-W) and go the the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE window.
3) Select SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services and a list of all the services is displayed.
4) The FAXmaker services are normaly displayed with the name of FAXmaker. Highlight the services by clicking on them, and then delete them by pressing the DELETE key. Then select yes whem prompted to confirm the deletion.
5) After deleting the services you must then reboot the computer.
IMPRTANT NOTE: When the services have been deleted (delete has been confirmed) the operation could not be undone. Hence, care must be taken when services are deleted in order to avoid deleting the wrong services.
To upgrade from FAXmaker 5 to FAXmaker 6 the following steps should br taken:
1) Install the FAXmaker 6 server on a different directory than that of FAXmaker 5.
2) When the installation is complete, copy the file NETUPGRD.EXE which is installed on the FAXmaker 6 directory to the system directory FAXmaker 5.
3) Run the program NETUPGRD.EXE in the FAXmaker5\system directory. The Mailboxes will be then moved from the FAXmaker 5 directory to the FAXmaker 6 Mailbox directory.
4) You will be asked to select a user wich will be a default user. This user will then recieve all incoming faxes. After selecting your default user press OK.
5) Finally you can configure the FAX server and the user accounts and install the printer driver to complete the installation.
