  21. The Redline Racer help system explains the various
  22. elements of the game. You can look at help at any time
  23. by starting the game and pressing the F1 key.
  24.  
  25. For those of you who don't like reading manuals here
  26. are the key things you will need to know:

  28. Default keys

  31. Up arrow        Up a gear (manual gearbox)
  32. Down arrow      Down a gear (manual gearbox)
  33. Left arrow      Turn left
  34. Right arrow     Turn right
  35. Left Shift      Accelerator
  36. Left Ctrl       Brake
  37. Z Key           Signal to other players
  38. A Key           Turbo boost
  39. ESC             Pause menu
  40. F1              Help
  41. F2              Change camera view

  43. The default keys can be changed in the 'configure' sub
  44. menu through the 'controls' option. The game can be
  45. controlled by keyboard, mouse and joystick.

  47. User Interface Navigation
  48. -------------------------

  50. o You can move around the user interface using
  51.   joystick, keyboard or mouse.

  53. o Mouse control
  54.   + Move the arrow mouse pointer over the option you
  55.   want, click the leftmouse button to make an action
  56.   take place
  57.  
  58. o Keyboard control
  59.   + The cursor keys move between options, the arrow
  60.   showing what the current selection is
  61.   + Press 'Enter' when you are happy with a selection
  62.  
  63. o Joystick control
  64.   + Use up, down, left and right to move the arrow
  65.     around the options
  66.   + Press 'fire' to select an option

  68. Starting the game
  69. -----------------

  71. Run Redline Racer -- 'Click' in this context means
  72. moving the mouse arrow pointer over the item mentioned
  73. and pressing the left mouse button once.
  74.      
  75. Click 'Start' to leave the opening screen.  The first
  76. time you run the game there will be a series of screens
  77. asking for your name and team selection. Future
  78. gameplay takes you directly to the Main Menu (see
  79. below).

  81. To enter your name using one of the two following
  82. methods:
  83.  
  84.   -  Use the arrow keys to scroll through the alphabet
  85.      until the required letter appears.  Then click
  86.      'Select' to enter the letter. Continue this
  87.      process until your name is complete.
  88.  
  89.   -  Alternatively, click on the name box and type in
  90.      your name.  When finished, click 'OK'.
  91.      
  92. Next chose your team.  Use the arrow keys to scroll
  93. through the available options and click on 'Male' or
  94. 'Female' as appropriate. Teams are represented by the
  95. 3D rider, which is you.  Once you have found the team 
  96. you want, click 'OK' to move on.

  98. Now the game's Main Menu appears.  This menu provides
  99. access to all functions of the game.  Follow the
  100. procedure below to start racing:
  101.      
  102.   1. Click on 'Arcade'.
  103.      
  104.   2. Select the desired track by clicking on the arrows
  105.      and then click 'OK'.
  106.      
  107.   3. Select the desired bike by clicking on the arrows
  108.      and then click 'OK'.
  109.      
  110.   4. Select the transmission you want on the bike by
  111.      clicking either on 'AT' for automatic or 'MT' for
  112.      manual transmission. Then click 'OK'.

  114.   5. The game begins after race information loads.

  121. o How do I access on-line help
  122.  
  123. You can access on-line help by running the game and
  124. pressing F1 at any time in the menus. A dialog box will
  125. appear asking if you are sure, just click 'OK' and the
  126. help will appear in your current web browser.

  128. o Why can't I access all of the tracks?
  129.  
  130. You have to perform well enough in previous tracks (by
  131. getting first place in all of the available tracks)
  132. before some tracks are released. Tracks only become
  133. available when you have proved you have the skills to
  134. be able to play them.

  136. o How do I change my name?
  137.  
  138. When the game first starts you are asked your name. The
  139. game will not ask you again. If you wish to change your
  140. name in the game go to 'Configure' in the main menu,
  141. and select 'name' to re-enter your name.
  142.  
  143. o The game runs slowly on my machine what do I do?
  144.  
  145. The game will run more quickly if the graphics options
  146. are changed. In particular the lower you can set
  147. 'Geometry Detail','Texture Detail','View Distance' and
  148. 'Field of View' the faster the game will run. See the
  149. online help for more details.
