  7. IMPORTANT: If IntraBuilder is not currently installed on
  8. your system or if you choose to install the IntraBuilder
  9. Client/Server Trial Edition, the trial software will
  10. automatically expire 30 days from the date of installation.
  11. If you are using this installation to update any existing
  12. edition of IntraBuilder from version 1.0 to version 1.01a,
  13. the date limitation does not apply. For details and other
  14. important Trial/Update installation notes, see INSTALL.TXT.

  16. IntraBuilder Server setup instructions are in the file
  17. SERVER.HLP (a Windows Help file). Other general install and
  18. uninstall notes are in INSTALL.TXT. Both of these files are
  19. stored in your IntraBuilder root directory.

  21. If after installing this Trial Edition you purchase a copy
  22. of IntraBuilder 1.0 (not 1.01a), you should uninstall this
  23. Trial Edition before installing the full product, then
  24. reinstall this Trial Edition to update your copy of
  25. IntraBuilder. The version number is indicated at the top of
  26. the INSTALL.TXT file that is displayed at the beginning of
  27. the installation process.

  29. This update applies only to English-language versions of
  30. IntraBuilder.

  32. PLEASE NOTE: This Borland product offers no redistributable
  33. files. Also, for Client/Server edition users only, the
  34. Borland License Agreement allows you to install Remote
  35. Agents on multiple machines.

  41. IntraBuilder is a visual JavaScript application development
  42. environment that lets you easily build and maintain live,
  43. data-driven Web applications. The applications you create
  44. with IntraBuilder provide your users with live, interactive
  45. access to your data through any browser.

  48. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  57.   IntraBuilder Designer: 12MB RAM for Windows 95, 16MB RAM
  58.   for Windows NT.
  59.   IntraBuilder Server: Minimum IntraBuilder Designer
  60.   requirement plus 8MB for the Borland Web Server, or the
  61.   stated memory requirement of another supported Web
  62.   server.

  88. Please note that if you choose to use the Microsoft IIS
  89. server on any version of Windows NT, your system login
  90. username must match the Anonymous Connections username in
  91. your Internet Service Manager setup. For more details on
  92. this requirement and instructions on how to change the
  93. Anonymous username, see SERVER.HLP.

  96. STARTING INTRABUILDER
  97. ------------------------------------------------------------
  98.  
  99. IntraBuilder is made up of two major components: the
  100. IntraBuilder Designer and the IntraBuilder Server.
  101.  
  102. The IntraBuilder Designer is where you create, modify and
  103. maintain your IntraBuilder applications.
  104.  
  105. To run the IntraBuilder Designer from Windows NT 3.51,
  106. double-click the IntraBuilder Designer icon in your
  107. IntraBuilder program group in the Program Manager.
  108.  
  109. To run the IntraBuilder Designer from Windows 95 or Windows
  110. NT 4.0:
  111.  
  112. 1.  Click your Start button.
  113.  
  114. 2.  Choose Programs from the Start menu.
  115.  
  116. 3.  Choose IntraBuilder from the fly-out menu, then choose
  117.     IntraBuilder Designer.
  118.  
  119. IntraBuilder Server setup, startup and testing instructions
  120. are provided in SERVER.HLP, located in your IntraBuilder
  121. root directory.

  124. RUNNING THE PREBUILT BUSINESS SOLUTION APPLICATIONS

  127. IntraBuilder includes several prebuilt business solution
  128. applications which can be immediately run as-is or
  129. customized to meet your needs.
  130.  
  131. The applications are installed into your IntraBuilder\Apps
  132. directory (default C:\Program
  133. Files\Borland\IntraBuilder\Apps).
  134.

  136. to run them, see the README.TXT file in the \Apps directory.

  139. OTHER USAGE NOTES

  145. * Two updated Microsoft Access dynamic link libraries (DLLs)
  146.   may help resolve problems with some Access tables and
  147.   ODBC drivers. The DLLs (MSJT3032.DLL and MSWNG300.DLL) as
  148.   well as information on the issues that the updates
  149.   address, are available from the Microsoft Knowledge Base
  150.   at www.microsoft.com/kb. Use the site's "Q-Finder" search
  151.   option to locate article Q151186. The files are available
  152.   for separate downloading directly from the article.
  153.  
  154. * The following ODBC configurations have been certified for
  155.   use with Microsoft Access tables:
  156.    ODBC version   Access version
  157.    2.10.0000      2.00.2317
  158.    2.50.0000      3.40.2505
  159.  
  160. * Do not use Microsoft Access (*.MDB) tables or indexes that
  161.   reside in directories that have spaces in the directory
  162.   name. However, you can use Access tables and indexes that
  163.   reside in directories that have more than eight
  164.   characters (e.g., /intrabuilder), so long as the
  165.   directory name contains no spaces.
  166.  
  167. * When adapting sample code written in VBScript, be mindful
  168.   of the fact that JavaScript is a case-sensitive language,
  169.   and so all events, properties and methods used in an
  170.   IntraBuilder program must be cased correctly, or errors
  171.   will result. It is particularly important to pay close
  172.   attention to the casing of event handlers that are to be
  173.   included in an IntraBuilder program.
  174.  
  175. * After a successful setup of DBF security through the
  176.   security adminstration dialogs, a dbsystem.db file is
  177.   created. To allow the server to recognize and use this
  178.   file, however, you must ensure that either:
  179.   -- The dbsystem.db file is in the same directory as
  180.   INTRA.EXE
  181.      (located in your /IntraBuilder/Bin directory); or
  182.   -- The location of dbsystem.db is specified in
  183.   INTRASRV.INI as:
  184.      [CommandSettings]
  185.      DBSYSTEM=<path>
  186.   Currently, the two lines above are contained only in the
  187.   file INTRA.INI (you can copy the lines from that file to
  188.   INTRASRV.INI). Both INI files are located in your
  189.   /IntraBuilder/Bin directory.
  190.  
  191. * You should not save more than one custom form class to a
  192.   custom form file. If you do, you may lose previously
  193.   defined classes.
  194.  
  195. * URLs to IntraBuilder forms or reports that require a
  196.   parenthetical query will not work if issued from the
  197.   Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 (MSIE) Address box.
  198.   For example, the following entry into the MSIE Address box
  199.   produces an error ("Site not found"):
  200.     http://server/svr/intrasrv.isv?foo.jfm(123)
  201.   In addition, any MSIE bookmarks that contain this URL
  202.   construction will not work.
  203.   You can, however, use a URL that contains a parenthetical
  204.   query in an HREF link within a form or report, and the
  205.   link will execute properly from MSIE.
  206.  
  207. * For Windows 95 users only: Microsoft has issued a Windows
  208.   95 KERNEL32 system file update that resolves a known
  209.   problem with a Windows Sockets memory leak. The leak
  210.   occurs when opening and closing a Socket using the
  211.   Windows Sockets API. Microsoft reports that this type of
  212.   leak affects performance and system stability for users
  213.   who run Windows Sockets applications continuously over a
  214.   long period of time. We recommend that IntraBuilder users
  215.   download and apply the update from the following
  216.   location:

  220. * To close the IntraBuilder Agent on Windows NT 3.51, choose
  221.   the minimized IntraBuilder Agent icon and press Alt+F4
  222.   (or close the application through the Windows Task List).
  223.   On Windows 95, you can close the IntraBuilder Agent by
  224.   right-clicking on the minimized IntraBuilder Agent icon
  225.   and choosing Close.
  226.  
  227. * Before running IntraBuilder after any new reinstallation
  228.   or update, you should delete any *.GID (a hidden file
  229.   type) and *.FTS files from your IntraBuilder directories
  230.   before using the Help system. If you don't, you will get
  231.   incorrect search and index information when using Help.
  232.  
  233. * Do not use accented or extended characters as the first
  234.   character in the name of a control on an IntraBuilder
  235.   form or report. If you do, Netscape browsers will issue
  236.   an error when attempting to access the form.
  237.  
  238. * If you use IntraBuilder with dBASE files that were created
  239.   with Visual dBASE version 5.5 or earlier, you may
  240.   experience some problems with non-ASCII (non-English
  241.   language) data. The reason: these early versions of dBASE
  242.   normally used the ASCII character set. To remedy the
  243.   problem, we recommend that you change the language of
  244.   your early dBASE tables to the Western European ANSI
  245.   (WEANSI) character set--the set normally employed by
  246.   Internet applications. Visual dBASE users can find
  247.   information on character set issues and how to change the
  248.   set used by dBASE tables in Appendix C of the Visual
  249.   dBASE Programmer's Guide.
  250.  
  251. * On some Windows NT 4.0 Server machines, the file
  252.   SERVER.HLP may run incorrectly. When opening the file you
  253.   may see a tabbed Help dialog with only the Contents and
  254.   Find tabs showing, if so you will have problems running
  255.   the file. Rename the file (to SERVER1.HLP, for example),
  256.   and change the properties for the IntraBuilder Server
  257.   Help icon to reflect the new name. With this
  258.   modification, the file will open and display correctly.

  260. Client/Server, Professional, and Trial edition users only
  261. ---------------------------------------------------------
  262.  
  263. * The NSAPI interface to Netscape's FastTrack and Commerce
  264.   Web Servers has a limitation on the length of HTML form
  265.   variables. In most cases this limitation presents no
  266.   problem, but if you have TextArea objects dataLinked to
  267.   memo fields that contain more data than Netscape's NSAPI
  268.   interface can handle then you may run into one of the
  269.   following situations:
  270.     -- Data saved from a Netscape Navigator browser to a
  271.   Netscape server via the NSAPI interface from a TextArea
  272.   control may be truncated.
  273.     -- Data saved from Microsoft Internet Explorer from a
  274.   TextArea control to a Netscape Web server using the NSAPI
  275.   interface may generate a "Server Configuration" error,
  276.   since Internet Explorer does not have the same
  277.   restriction on the length of form variables.
  278.  
  279.   Netscape servers using the WinCGI protocol, the Borland
  280.   Web Server, Microsoft's Internet Information Server, and
  281.   WebSite do not have this limitation.

  283. Client/Server and Trial edition users only

  286. * When using Remote Agents with Microsoft Internet
  287.   Information Server, the dialog box "Waiting for Web
  288.   Server to start..." does not close automatically when you
  289.   start the web service. After the WWW service is Running
  290.   in the Internet Service Manager, you must click Cancel to
  291.   dismiss the dialog box. This action also closes the
  292.   command prompt window used by the IntraBuilder Server.
