  7.       correct setup of your PC-NFSpro 2.0 software.

  30. 1. INSTALLATION AND CONFIGURATION
  31. =================================
  32.  
  33. Diskette Images Available on CD -
  34.  
  35. For your convenience in making installation diskettes, the PC-NFSpro
  36. 2.0 CD \DISKETTE\ directory contains diskette images of this product.
  37.  
  38. When Installing Over the Network -
  39.  
  40. Due to a DOS-imposed limitation, a file on an NFS-mounted drive having
  41. a path name longer than 63 characters is not visible in File Manager,
  42. or from DOS using the DIR or LS commands. When installing over the
  43. network from an NFS mounted drive, specify mount points as far down the
  44. path as possible to minimize the number of characters required to
  45. access the lowest file in the path hierarchy.
  46.  
  47. When Upgrading From PC-NFS 5.x -
  48.  
  49. LAN adapter configuration (which applies to Windows 3.x, as opposed to
  50. Windows for WorkGroups) does not carry over to PC-NFSpro 2.0. During an
  51. upgrade, the Configuration program opens the LAN Adapter dialog box and
  52. you must reselect your adapter and then reconfigure it. You can examine
  53. your CONFIG.SYS file prior to upgrading to see which LAN adapter driver
  54. is used by your PC, and examine your PROTOCOL.INI file to determine
  55. your LAN adapter's current configuration settings.
  56.  
  57. When Upgrading From PC-NFSpro 1.x -
  58.  
  59. If you use Windows 3.1 or Windows for WorkGroups, do not attempt to
  60. remove a previously installed copy of PC-NFSpro. Install over an
  61. existing copy of PC-NFSpro. If a problem occurs during installation
  62. that causes you to abort the installation, a message is displayed that
  63. says installed files must be removed. Ignore this message if you intend
  64. to retry the installation. For example, if you run out of disk space
  65. during an installation, simply make room on your disk and rerun the
  66. PC-NFSpro Setup program.
  67.  
  68. If You Install With a File in Use -
  69.  
  70. You must close all open applications and files (including Winsock)
  71. before installing PC-NFSpro. If you do not, you will receive an error
  72. message when the installation program attempts to install a copy of an
  73. open file. When this situation occurs, an "Abort, Retry or Ignore"
  74. dialog box opens. If you see this dialog box, use Alt+Tab to see what
  75. application is running, close the application, and then choose the
  76. "Retry" option to resume installation.
  77.  
  78. You can choose "Ignore" to use the version of the file already on your
  79. system and proceed with installation. However, this version may not
  80. work properly with PC-NFSpro 2.0. If you discover this to be the case,
  81. re-run Setup and perform a Custom Install, installing the PC-NFSpro 2.0
  82. component containing the file you need.
  83.  
  84. To Configure a Laptop for Serial and LAN Use -
  85.  
  86. To configure PC-NFSpro for use on a laptop PC that alternates between
  87. LAN and PPP connections, create two .CFG files, one for PPP use and one
  88. for LAN use. Switch back and forth between these configuration files as
  89. necessary.

  91. DNS Configuration - 
  92.  
  93. If you configure DNS, enter an IP address only (not a hostname) to
  94. identify the DNS server.

  97. 2. LICENSING
  98. ============
  99.  
  100. Use PC-NFSpro 2.0 License Manager With Code1/Code2 Pairs -
  101.  
  102. If you currently use License Manager for license distribution and
  103. administration, you must use the License Manager provided with
  104. PC-NFSpro 2.0 when creating new licenses from a code1/code2 pair.
  105.  
  106. PLUM Server Version Restriction -
  107.  
  108. If you currently use a PLUM server for license administration and
  109. distribution, you must use the PLUM server provided with PC-NFSpro 2.0
  110. to create new licenses from a code1/code2 pair. Older versions of the
  111. PLUM server are not compatible with PC-NFSpro 2.0 and cannot be used
  112. with PC-NFSpro 2.0. The PLUM server supplied on the PC-NFSpro CD is
  113. compatible with all versions of PC-NFS, PC-Admin, and PC-NFSpro, and
  114. should be used in mixed software environments.

  117. 3. WINDOWS 95 ISSUES
  118. ====================
  119. PC-NFSpro is designed to coexist with Windows 95 software. However,
  120. refer to the following notes if you are using PC-NFSpro in a Windows 95
  121. environment.
  122.  
  123. When Upgrading to Windows 95  -
  124.  
  125. If you use PC-NFSpro 1.x with Windows 3.1 or Windows for WorkGroups,
  126. and you want to upgrade your PC to Windows 95, you must first upgrade
  127. to PC-NFSpro 2.0, and then perform the Windows 95 upgrade.
  128.  
  129. LAN Adapter Required for Serial-Only Operation -
  130.  
  131. If you configure a PC running Windows 95 for Serial (PPP) communication
  132. only, you must also configure and load a LAN adapter through Windows 95
  133. (even if the PC is not equipped with a LAN adapter (NIC) card). This
  134. ensures the successful addition of PC-NFSpro as a Network client. If
  135. you reconfigure PC-NFSpro from a LAN to a serial configuration, do not
  136. unload/remove the LAN driver.
  137.  
  138. To load a LAN adapter:
  139. 1. Choose Start->Settings->Control Panel.
  140. 2. Double-click the Network icon in the Control Panel.
  141. 3. Choose Add.
  142. 4. Choose Network Adpater.
  143. 5. Choose Add. 
  144.    The Select Network adapters dialog box opens.
  145. 6. Select any network adapter from the list of adapters.
  146. 7. Choose OK.
  147.  
  148. The Microsoft TCP/IP Stack Causes WINSOCK.DLL Problem -
  149.  
  150. PC-NFSpro requires its own WINSOCK.DLL file to be installed in the
  151. \SOLARNET\BIN directory. However, if you install the Microsoft TCP/IP
  152. stack supplied with Windows 95, an additional WINSOCK.DLL file is
  153. installed in the \WINDOWS\ directory. The presence of two WINSOCK.DLL
  154. files causes some PC-NFSpro applications and utilities to fail. If you
  155. have installed (and subsequently removed) the Microsoft TCP/IP stack,
  156. you must rename the WINSOCK.DLL file in the \WINDOWS\ directory to
  157. prevent PC-NFSpro applications from using it. Rename this file
  158. WINSOCK.DL-. Note that when PC-NFSpro is installed, it renames the
  159. WSOCK32.DLL supplied with the Microsoft TCP/IP stack to WSOCK32.DL-.
  160.  
  161. NetBIOS Domain Scope Parameter -
  162.  
  163. This parameter is invalid in Windows 95 and can be ignored.
  164. ______________________________________________________________________
  165.  
  166. 4. TELNET
  167. =========
  168.  
  169. In a New Location -
  170.  
  171. The Telnet application is now installed in its own directory:
  172. (\SOLARNET\TELNET). If you are upgrading from a previous version of
  173. PC-NFSpro, you must move any ECF files to this directory. In addition,
  174. you must remove DEFINE KEY commands in these files.
  175. ______________________________________________________________________
  176.  
  177. 5. Pronto E-Mail
  178. ================
  179.  
  180. SHARE Required When Using Windows 3.1 -
  181.  
  182. To use Pronto E-Mail with Windows 3.1, CONFIG.SYS must load the
  183. SHARE.EXE program. Refer to the MS-DOS on-line help by typing 'help
  184. share' at the MS-DOS command prompt for more information.
  185.  
  186. CTL3DV2.DLL Version Compatibility -
  187.  
  188. If you do a full PC-NFSpro installation, or a custom installation that
  189. includes Pronto E-Mail, a new version of CTL3DV2.DLL is installed in
  190. the Windows system directory. If there is an older version of
  191. CTL3DV2.DLL in the Windows directory, you should rename or delete it.
  192. The older version may cause problems with the encode/decode features of
  193. Pronto E-Mail.
  194.  
  195. To Import SelectMail or E-Mail 1.x Folders -
  196.  
  197. Pronto E-Mail uses an efficient database storage format for messages.
  198. Existing SelectMail or E-Mail 1.x folders can be imported by using the
  199. File->Import Folder... option. A utility will be provided in the future
  200. which will automatically upgrade SelectMail or E-Mail folders to the
  201. new format. This utility will be made available in the SunSoft forum on
  202. CompuServe.
  203.  
  204. Multiuser Operation -
  205.  
  206. You can configure Pronto E-Mail for multiuser operation. Refer to
  207. "Serving Multiple E-Mail Users" in the Contents section of E-Mail help
  208. for multiuser configuration procedures.

  211. 6. NETSCAPE NAVIGATOR
  212. ======================
  213.  
  214. Correct TCP/IP Configuration Required -
  215.  
  216. If you run Netscape Navigator without correctly configuring TCP/IP,
  217. Netscape will cause a GPF (General Protection Fault).
  218.  
  219. Win32s Version Incompatibility -
  220.  
  221. If you presently use version 1.15 or earlier of Win32s, you will not be
  222. able to install the Netscape Navigator. To solve this problem, either
  223. remove the the old version of Win32s or upgrade to version 1.25 of
  224. Win32s. Double-click the Release Notes icon in the PC-NFSpro group to
  225. view instructions about determining your Win32s version, removing an
  226. old version of Win32s, and obtaining a copy of version 1.25 of Win32s.
