-
- 1. What Is HotDog?
- ==================
-
- HotDog is an HTML editor for Windows. It helps you maintain and create
- documents for the World Wide Web. HotDog makes life simple for you by
- providing quick access to tags and attributes and dialogs to help you
- create complex elements. It also uses a Windows 95-style graphical
- interface, even if you don't have Windows 95!
-
- HotDog is _not_ a WYSIWYG, desktop publishing-style editor (but it may
- become one at a later date). HotDog does not require any word processing
- software to run.
-
- HotDog supports HTML 3 and NetScape revisions. Note that some of the HTML 3
- elements are not yet supported by the NetScape Navigator. See the help file
- for more details.
-
-
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
-
- 2. Contacting Us
- ================
-
- We provide technical support by e-mail to registered users of HotDog only.
-
- We can be contacted at the following addresses:
-
- http://www.sausage.com - our Web Site. This is the preferred source for all
- information about HotDog, and for downloading the
- software, patches, FAQs, etc.
- sales@sausage.com - if you would like more information about HotDog
-
- We are in the process of setting up a number of mailing lists and mirror
- sites for HotDog. Please see our web site for more details.
-
-
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
-
- 3. Registering HotDog
- =====================
-
- HotDog Standard costs US$29.95. A maintenance and support contract, which
- entitles you to personal technical support by e-mail as well as free
- updates to HotDog for one year, costs a further US$25.00. If you do not
- want the support contract, HotDog upgrades will be offered to you for a
- discounted price and technical support will be available from the
- hotdog-support mailing list.
-
- To register HotDog, please print out the file ORDER.TXT and follow the
- instructions there, or search the help file for Ordering HotDog.
-
- For more information about registering HotDog, or about the Professional
- version of HotDog, please see the on-line help.
-
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
-
- 4. Installing HotDog
- ====================
-
- Download the file HOTDOG10.EXE, and run it from Program Manager or File
- Manager. This will install HotDog in your system.
-
- The first time you run HotDog, a Licensing Agreement will be displayed.
- Please read this carefully before you start using the program. If you
- consent to the terms, click the "I Agree" button to start HotDog.
-
- The unregistered Evaluation version of HotDog may only be used for 30 days.
- At the end of the 30 day period, you will no longer be able to use HotDog.
- If you need more time than this to evaluate HotDog, extensions to the time
- limit are available. Contact sales@sausage.com for more information.
-
-
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
-
- 5. System Requirements
- ======================
-
- We recommend a 486 with 8 Mb RAM as the minimum system for running HotDog.
- It has run on less than that (even a 386DX25 with 4 Mb), but will be more
- "dog" than "hot".
-
- HotDog needs approximately 2 Mb of disk space.
-
- You also need a suitable browser for viewing your HTML, for example NetScape
- or one of the Mosaics.
-
- HotDog has so far been run successfully on these platforms:
-
- Windows for Workgroups 3.11
- Windows 3.1
- Windows NT 3.5 (Build 807) - Intel
- Windows 95 beta
- OS/2 Warp (Windows edition)
-
- It has failed to run on:
-
- SoftWindows (HotDog will only work with enhanced-mode Windows)
-
- If you manage to run HotDog in another environment (e.g. SoftWindows, NT on
- an Alpha) please let us know.
-

-
- 6. Known Problems
- =================
-
- * Installation Program may cause problems with some 256-color displays
- --------------------------------------------------------------------
- If this happens, the HotDog files are available from our web site in a
- ZIP archive. You will need to Unzip and install these yourself.
-
- * 3DWindows don't display properly with some video cards
- ------------------------------------------------------
- The 3DWindows option should replace the standard window buttons with
- small, gray, Win-95 style ones. Some video cards display these buttons
- as dark blue or black, or gray but blank. If this happens we suggest you
- disable the 3DWindows option.
-
- * Right-mouse menu behaves strangely in Win95
- -------------------------------------------
- This problem seems to be restricted to Win95. Unfortunately, Win95 bugs
- are difficult for us to fix, since the operating system is not yet
- finalized. Some of these bugs will have to remain at least until the
- official release of both Win95 and the next version of the Visual Basic
- programming language.
-
- * Positions of toolbars changes if hidden/reshown
- -----------------------------------------------
- If you turn the Button Bar and Element Bar off, then show them again,
- they will appear in a different order (the Element bar will be on top).
- The same thing happens with the Documents and Status bars. Restarting
- HotDog will fix this.
- We are investigating a fix for this bug.
-
- * Documents bar cannot be scrolled when tabs go off the screen
- ------------------------------------------------------------
- We're pursuing this with VideoSoft, the authors of our tab control.
-
- * Inactive title bar text disappears
- ----------------------------------
- This has been reported by some Windows 95 users. We have not been able
- to reproduce this problem.
-
- * Installation Program will not create group in Win95
- ---------------------------------------------------
- A fix is available for this, but it will only work in later builds of
- Windows 95. It will not work in Build 347 (the "final beta").
- When Win95 is officially released we'll make this fix publicly
- available.
