Product Description
--------------------
WebMirror is an advanced off-line browsing tool that allows you to
re-create sections of the World Wide Web directly on your hard drive or
local network. You can save particular pages, complete with text, links and
graphics. Once the Web pages are saved to your hard drive (that is, once
you have "captured" them), you can refer back to the information at any
time, without an online connection and additional connection charges.
--------------------
New Features
--------------------
WebMirror 1.10 includes wizards, a new interactive interface, and
scheduling.
This version lets you use WebMirror as a proxy service to your browser,
which makes viewing local and online Web pages transparent. Once your
browser is configured to use WebMirror as a proxy, WebMirror will handle
the loading of your Web pages, automatically determining whether to load
the requested information from the pages saved on your hard drive or to
retrieve new pages from the Web. You can even make sure your database
remains up to date by scheduling WebMirror to perform automatic, unattended
updates using your Windows 95 Dial-Up Connection or OS/2 Dial Other
Internet Provider.
WebMirror 1.10 keeps all of your captured Web pages in a single database.
Although the database is a proprietary format, you can export a site's HTML
and related files for use in other programs.
--------------------
Evaluation Software
--------------------
If you are using an evaluation version of WebMirror 1.10, please note that
the evaluation software performs captures no more than 1 level deep. Once
you have fully evaluated the program, you will be able to use all data
collected during evaluation with your permanent (purchased) copy of
WebMirror.
The trial copy available for download is offered so you can give WebMirror
a try before purchasing.
--------------------
Requirements
--------------------
* 486-DX or higher
* Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0.
* OS/2 Warp 3, Warp 3 Connect, Warp 4.
* 8 MB (Windows 95) 16 MB (Windows NT and OS/2) RAM. Additional memory
makes WebMirror run faster.
* 10 MB free hard drive space (1 MB for the program; 9 MB for captured
sites). Since WebMirror stores HTML files and images from the Web, the
disk space required is determined by the number and size of the images
and files you capture.
* An active Internet connection with a Winsock-compliant network product
(Windows).
* TCP/IP connection with SLIP, PPP, or direct connectivity.
* A SpyGlass SDI standard-compliant Web browser such as:
* Internet Explorer (TM) version 2.0-4.0
* Netscape Navigator (TM) version 1.1b3-4.0
A Web browser is required only for viewing captured pages. You may capture
pages from the Internet with any Web connection. Since WebMirror makes
independent network connections to desired pages (sites), a Web browser is
not necessary for WebMirror "capturing," but is only needed for viewing the
resulting groups of local files.
Recommended
* Pentium-100
* 16 MB RAM
* Additional hard drive space
--------------------
Limitations
--------------------
* Unsupported Protocols: WebMirror does not currently support https, ftp,
gopher, nntp, news, or mail protocols. They are skipped when they are
encountered in the HTML for a site.
* Automatic Dial-Out: Automatic Dial-Out connections are limited to Windows
95 Dial-Up connections with no scripts. If you are using anything other
than a Windows 95 Dial-Up connection to connect to your Internet service
provider, WebMirror will not recognize it.
* Multiple Passwords: WebMirror cannot capture sites that require multiple
passwords and/or username.
