1. System Requirements
Montezuma's Return requires a Pentium PC with 16M RAM minimum.
The recommended system is a Pentium 133 with 32M RAM and 3Dfx graphics.
The demo requires 24M of hard drive space. There are optional downloads
for in-game videos.
Montezuma's Return Demo was designed to run only under Windows95.
It is not guaranteed to work under operating systems such as WindowsNT,
Windows3.x, or Windows for OS/2.
DirectX5 or newer is required for the W95 version. DirectX5 is included
on the CD, and it is recommended that you use the most current version
available.
2. Getting started
It is recommended that you exit all windows before executing
Montezuma's Return.
3. Troubleshooting
a. .DLL file errors such as "can't find dinput.dll"
Montezuma's Return requires Microsoft DirectX version 5. This can be
downloaded at:
http://207.68.137.46/msdownload/directx/5.0/enduserdl/en/dx5eng.exe
If this link fails, please go to http://www.utopiatech.com.
b. Videos are choppy or missing frames.
If you're running the W95 version, run Graphics Setup from the Menu. Be
sure that video resolution is set to "auto" and "scale videos to screen" is
not checked. You can also try running the videos in the lowest resolution.
If this fails, or if you're running the DOS version, reinstall with the
"huge" option set.
c. Audio continues during game menus.
This problem occurs when Creative Labs AWE 32/64 sound cards are not
correctly configured. Go to START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL/MULTIMEDIA/MIDI
and set the MIDI output to "MIDI for Creative Advanced Wave Effects Synthesis
for AWE 32".
4. Known bugs
There are no known bugs at the present time. A FAQ sheet can be found at
http://www.utopiatech.com/faq1a.html.
5. Reporting bugs
Please report all bugs to utopia@utopiatech.com.
6. Special notes for 16Meg systems
For 16Meg systems it is recommended that you use the W95 version.
Be sure to close all other windows before attempting to run Montezuma's Return.
Montezuma requires almost all of the 16Meg, so it's important that
you don't have other programs resident in memory. If problems persist,
you can "copy lowmem.cfg monte.cfg" to run the program with minimal
memory requirements. If you want to restore defaults later, you can
"copy default.cfg monte.cfg".
7. Special notes for 3Dfx RUSH - The current version of the demo is not
optimized for 3Dfx RUSH cards. Future versions will have substantially
better performance.
8. The full retail version of Montezuma's Return! contains NINE main levels
and NINE bonus levels. For credit card orders please call 1-800-556-6869.
