LOTUS ORGANIZER 97 GS README FILE FOR THE TEXAS INSTRUMENTS
ORGANIZER
Welcome to Lotus Organizer 97 GS (PIM-only), the award-winnning
personal information manager (PIM). These release notes contain
important information that supplements the online Help for using Lotus
Organizer with the Texas Instruments organizer.
********************
TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS
********************
General
If you change the size of the Lotus Organizer SmartIcons that appear
across the top of your Lotus Organizer screen from regular to large
or from large to regular, the Lotus Organizer SmartIcons for the
Texas Instruments organizer (which appear at the right end of the bar
of SmartIcons) won't change to the new size until you close and
then re-open the Lotus Organizer file. All of the other Lotus
Organizer SmartIcons in the set will change size without needing
to close and then re-open the Lotus Organizer file.
Because the TI organizer only uses uppercase letters, any Lotus
Organizer entry you synchronize with the TI organizer using lowercase
letters will appear at the bottom of the list of entries in the TI
organizer. Let's say you synchronize a Lotus Organizer Calendar
appointment with a description in lowercase letters (such as
"appointment with Robin") with the TI organizer. The corresponding
TI organizer appointment reminder will appear at the bottom of the
list of appointment reminders for that day, along with any other
appointment reminders that use lowercase letters.
Because the TI organizer only uses uppercase letters, any Lotus
Organizer entry you synchronize with the TI organizer using lowercase
letters won't appear as an entry in the TI organizer when you scan
entries. For example, if you synchronize a Lotus Organizer To Do task
titled "call Steve" with the TI organizer, the corresponding TI
organizer task reminder won't appear when you scan task reminders.
If you deselect a Lotus Organizer entry to prevent it from
synchronizing, but have made changes to the corresponding TI organizer
entry, the TI organizer entry WON'T be deleted from the TI organizer
when you synchronize (or combine) entries. Instead, a conflicting
entry will be created, because the TI organizer entry is now different
from the corresponding Lotus Organizer entry. Resolve the conflict,
synchronize, and then deselect the Lotus Organizer record whose
corresponding TI organizer entry you want to delete.
You can turn off the music that plays when you synchronize entries.
1. From the Lotus Organizer menu, choose File - User Setup - Organizer
Preferences.
2. Click the Environment tab.
3. Under "Sound," select "Mute Organizer sounds."
4. Click OK.
Scenario
You create an entry in either Lotus Organizer or TI organizer, and then
synchronize. In Lotus Organizer, you mark the entry as confidential,
and then select the option to not synchronize entries marked as
confidential. Any changes you make to the confidential Lotus Organizer
entry will not be reflected in the corresponding TI organizer entry.
Similarly, any changes you make to the TI organizer entry will not be
reflected in the corresponding Lotus Organizer entry.
Solution
If you want to keep only the updated confidential Lotus Organizer
entry, you must delete the corresponding TI organizer entry. (This
scenario doesn't apply to TI organizer Notes and Lotus Organizer
Notepad pages, which are handled differently. Consult the online Help
for using Lotus Organizer with the Texas Instruments organizer for
more information on making changes to secret TI organizer Notes.)
SMARTICONS
Scenario
You don't see the Lotus Organizer SmartIcons for the Texas Instruments
organizer, which should appear at the right end of the Universal set
of SmartIcons across the top of your Lotus Organizer screen. (The
Universal set of SmartIcons appear by default when you first open your
Lotus Organizer file.)You remove other SmartIcons you may not use
from the default set of SmartIcons so that the Lotus Organizer
SmartIcons for the Texas Instruments organizer will appear. You save
the updated set of SmartIcons, but still don't see the Lotus Organizer
SmartIcons for the Texas Instruments organizer.
Solution
To see all of your Lotus Organizer SmartIcons, including the
SmartIcons for the Texas Instruments organizer, create two sets of
SmartIcons. One set will consist of the Lotus Organizer SmartIcons
for the Texas Instruments organizer; the other set will consist of
the other SmartIcons included in the Universal set.
First, save the Universal set of SmartIcons with a different name.
1. From Lotus Organizer, choose File - User Setup - SmartIcons Setup.
2. Click the "Bar name" box and select "Universal."
3. Click Save Set.
4. Click Save As New.
5. For "SmartIcons bar name," enter the name "Default."
6. For "SmartIcons file name," enter the name "default.smi."
7. Click OK to return to the SmartIcons Setup box.
8. Click OK.
Next, edit the Universal set of SmartIcons to include only the
SmartIcons for the Texas Instruments organizer.
1. From Lotus Organizer, choose File - User Setup - SmartIcons Setup.
2. Click the "Bar name" box and select "Universal."
3. Remove all icons from the Universal set of SmartIcons by dragging
them out of the set of SmartIcons that appears across the top
of the SmartIcons Setup box.
4. Click Save Set.
5. Click "Overwrite."
6. Click OK.
7. Close your Lotus Organizer file and then re-open it.
You'll see two sets of SmartIcons across the top of your Lotus
Organizer screen. One set will consist of the SmartIcons for the
Texas Instruments organizer, and the other set will consist of the
other SmartIcons from the Universal set of SmartIcons.
If you don't see the two sets of SmartIcons, click the arrow on the
upper left corner of the SmartIcons bar and be sure both "Default"
and "Universal" are selected with a checkmark. If both sets aren't
selected, click both "Default" and "Universal" to display them.
ALARMS
Scenario
Another user includes a section from your Lotus Organizer file, which
you synchronize (or combine) with the TI organizer. The other user
creates a Lotus Organizer entry in the included section and sets an
alarm for the entry. The new entry with the alarm appears
in your Lotus Organizer file when you refresh the view in that
section. You synchronize (or combine) entries with the TI organizer.
The corresponding appointment reminder in the TI organizer doesn't
have an alarm set.
Solution
You must create the alarm in the original Lotus Organizer
file for an alarm to appear in the corresponding TI organizer entry.
NOTEPAD
Scenario
You synchronize (or combine) a Lotus Organizer Notepad page
containing an OLE object (such as a bitmap) with the TI organizer.
After synchronizing, you add text to the corresponding
note in the TI organizer. You then synchronize (or combine) entries.
The Lotus Organizer Notepad page now contains the text you added to
the corresponding TI note, but no longer contains the OLE object.
Solution
Make all changes to a Notepad page that contains an OLE object
in Lotus Orgainzer. Editing the corresponding TI organizer note
removes the OLE object in both the TI organizer and Lotus Organizer.
