The Domino Web Server Log is a special template, used to automatically create a database that records and stores information about all types of Domino Web server activities, and
Web client activities.
The Domino Web Server Log (DOMLOG.NSF) is automatically created during Domino Setup.
For more information on the Domino Web Server Log, see the Lotus Domino 4.6 documentation, which is located on
http://www.notes.net
The Domino Log database tracks information such as:
The name of the user (If the user supplied a name and password)
The user's IP address (or the DNS address if DNSLookup is enabled in the Server document)
The type of browser used to access the site
What information the user or browser requested
The URLs that clients visited and that contained links to URLs on this site
Internal and CGI program errors
The length of information sent back to the browser
The content type of data accessed by users
The status code the server returns to the browser to indicate its success or failure in generating the request
The IP address of the server accessed if it is a virtual server
To the Database Manager
Review the following list before making the database available to users.
Access Control List:
On a Domino server
, the Access Control List (ACL) is set up so that, by default, the server is defined as manager. Immediately after the Domino Web Server Log is created, the server administrator should change the ACL to make him/herself manager of the database.
The default access is Reader.
The administrator maintains the ACL. He/she may change the default access or add additional managers.
On a remote workstation
, the person whose ID is active during Domino Setup will be defined as manager of the Domino Web Server Log.
About the Domino Web Server Log:
Read (and maybe print) this information. Replace the current contents with a paragraph or two that explains the purpose of this database, its audience, and how to contact the manager(s).
(To edit the About Database document, select Design, Help Document, About Database.)
Using the Domino Web Server Log:
Be sure to update the Using Database document. It should give users specific information on the use of the database.
(To edit the Using Database document, select Design, Help Document, Using Database.)
