What just happened.
You were watching your Real Time Clock (RTC) roll-over from 1999 to the
year 2000. We set it to 1 minute before midnight on the turn of the
century. We directly reported the date which the RTC will pass to the
BIOS.
If the RTC went back to 1/1/1900, See the section 'Real Time Clocks'
for the reasons. Whether that is important to you depends on how the
BIOS handles the date, and also whether any programs directly
interrogate the RTC for the date.
TERMS:
Real Time Clock
A battery powered chip in your PC which informs the BIOS and thus
the Operating system of the date and time.
BIOS:
A chip which gets the date and time from the Real Time Clock and
informs the Operating System.
