  29. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying it.
  30. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are required to
  31. register it (or purchase the licensed version as in the case of
  32. Jasc Media Center).

  34. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and retail software, and the
  35. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as stated
  36. below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like retail
  37. authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are
  38. good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  39. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute
  40. the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For example,
  41. some authors require written permission before a commercial disk vendor may
  42. copy their Shareware.

  44. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find
  45. software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's retail or
  46. Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you
  47. can try before you buy. And because the overhead is lower, prices are lower
  48. also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  49. product, you don't pay for it.

  113.               Installing Jasc Media Center
  114.     Before you can use Jasc Media Center you have to run the Jasc Media 
  115. Center setup program from Windows so it will work properly on your computer.
  116. You cannot just copy the files from the Jasc Media Center disk to your hard
  117. disk.  The files on the distribution disk are packed in a special way to
  118. save space.  The setup program unpacks those files and builds them on
  119. your working disk.
  120.  
  121.     1.  Start Windows.
  122.     
  123.     2.  Place the Jasc Media Center Diskette in the Floppy Drive.
  124.  
  125.     3.  Activate Program Manager
  126.     Make Program Manager the active window.
  127.  
  128.     4.  Open the File Run Dialog Box
  129.     To open the File Run Dialog Box, select "Run" from the Program
  130.     Manager's File Menu.
  131.  
  132.     5.  Enter the Command Line
  133.     Type in the dialog box the command that will run the
  134.     Jasc Media Center setup program.
  135.  
  136.     If your floppy disk goes in your Drive "A", type:
  137.         A:SETUP
  138.     If your floppy disk goes in your Drive "B", type:
  139.         B:SETUP
  140.  
  141.     Leave the "Run Minimized" box un-selected, and click the
  142.     "OK" command button (or press "Enter").
  143.  
  144.     6.  Enter the Drive and Directory
  145.     This is the location that you want your Jasc Media Center files to 
  146.     be placed.  It will suggest a drive and directory of "C:\MEDIACNT".
  147.  
  148.     If you want the Jasc Media Center program files installed on a
  149.     different drive or directory, just click the pointer to the
  150.     right of the characters you want to change, backspace over
  151.     the ones you want to erase, then type in the new designation.
  152.  
  153.     7.  Jasc Media Center Setup will unpack the necessary files and place 
  154.     them into your directory.  The status of the operation will be 
  155.     displayed as the setup program does this work.  If Jasc Media Center 
  156.     came on more than one disk, during the unpacking of the disks you 
  157.     will be requested to insert the next disk.

  159.     8.  You will be asked if you would like to add Jasc Media Center
  160.     to the program manager.
  161.  
  162.         Select "No" if you do not want Jasc Media Center added
  163.         to your program manager.
  164.  
  165.         Select "Yes"  to have the setup program automatically build a 
  166.         Jasc Media Center icon and add it to your program manager.
  167.  
  168.     9.  The setup program will notify you when the installation is
  169.     complete.

  175. In order to keep the size of the Shareware version of Jasc Media Center
  176. reasonable no user's manual is provided. You will find that ALL menu items
  177. and associated dialog boxes, along with general information, is provided on
  178. line using the HELP-INDEX menu option of the program.

  180. When you purchase the licensed version of Jasc Media Center you will 
  181. receive the fully illustrated, perfect bound User's Guide.

  242. Center along to your friends for evaluation.

  244. If you do so, you must provide them with the entire set of Jasc Media Center
  245. shareware version files. These include:

  253. Do not simply copy the files off your hard drive. Jasc Media Center must be

  261.                Purchasing the Licensed Version

  263. You may use the shareware version of Jasc Media Center for a 30 day trial 
  264. period.  If you would like to continue to use Jasc Media Center after the 
  265. 30 day trial period, you are required to purchase the licensed version of 
  266. Jasc Media Center.

  268. When you purchase the licensed version of Jasc Media Center you will receive
  269. a disk with the licensed version and the printed user's guide.

  271. Jasc Media Center may be purchased from a number of sources. You are free to
  272. purchase your copy from where ever you desire.
