New Default Directory Structure for Lotus Products
---------------------------------------------------------------
The Lotus products for Windows 95 offer a new default
directory structure. This structure is designed to
minimize the amount of space required for Lotus products
on your hard drive. The new structure also makes it
easier to maintain and upgrade your products, since
your work, backup, SmartMaster looks, samples, and other
directories are independent of your main product
directory. We recommend that you install all of your
Lotus products under this directory structure.
This diagram illustrates the main points
of the new directory structure:
LOTUS\ (Main Lotus product directory for all Lotus products.
| For SmartSuite, this is the SmartSuite directory.)
|
|---<flg>\ (Executables and other core
| files for Freelance Graphics)
|
|---<main_prod_dir2>\ (Executables and other core
| files for another Lotus product)
| .
| .
| . (other Lotus products here)
| .
| .
|
|---Smasters\ (SmartMasters for all Lotus products)
| |
| |--<flg> (SmartMasters for Freelance Graphics)
| |
| |--<prod2> (SmartMasters for Lotus product 2)
|
|---Samples\ (Samples for Lotus products. Note, Freelance Graphics
| | does not install anything to this directory)
| |
| |--<prod2> (Samples for Lotus product 2)
|
|---Work\ (Work directory for all Lotus products)
| |
| |--<flg> (Work directory for Freelance Graphics)

| |--<flg> (Backup directory for Freelance Graphics)
| |
| |--<prod2> (Backup directory for Lotus product 2)
|
|---COMPNENT\ (Shared components for all Lotus proucts)
---------------------------------------------------------------
Uninstall
---------------------------------------------------------------
The Uninstall program allows you to remove all files
associated with a selected Lotus application that were
copied to your system when the application was installed.
It also removes all program folders or groups, shortcuts,
icons, and Windows registry entries.
Uninstall displays messages and prompts before it removes
any user-modified file, so you can decide whether to
remove the file. You can re-run Uninstall until all files
associated with the application are removed.
Uninstall also creates an output log and displays
error messages, so you can track and review the entire
process. Uninstall overwrites the output log each time
it is run, so you may want to rename this file if you
want to save it.
Uninstall does not delete files in your work or
personal directories, or other files that were changed
since they were installed. It will not delete a
directory until all directories and files are removed
from that directory.
Uninstall displays a prompt before it removes many
files, in case you do not want to remove a specific
file. If you decide not to remove a file and the product
is not removed completely, then Uninstall will also
leave the files it needs to run again, including the
product .INF and CINSTALL.INI files. If you want to
run Uninstall again, do not remove these files manually.
In addition, Uninstall will not remove files needed by
another Lotus product. Be careful not to remove these
shared files manually, or other Lotus applications will
not run correctly. Uninstall will remove these files
when it removes the last Lotus application.
---------------------------------------------------------------
How to Invoke Uninstall
---------------------------------------------------------------
Uninstall is available to users from the Start menu
(Windows 95) or the Program Manager (Windows NT 3.51).
Windows 95 users can run Uninstall by completing
these steps:
1. Choose Settings - Control Panel from the Start menu.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Choose the program to be removed.
4. Click Remove.
Windows NT 3.51 users can invoke Uninstall by clicking
the Uninstall icon for the product to be removed.
____________________________________________________________________
4. Printing on an HP LaserJet 4
____________________________________________________________________
When you install a driver for an HP LaserJet 4 series printer, the
default graphics mode is Vector. If you have problems with your
Freelance Graphics output, try changing the graphics mode to Raster.
____________________________________________________________________
5. Running Freelance Graphics Under Windows NT 3.51
____________________________________________________________________
If you run Freelance Graphics under Windows NT 3.51, you may get
the following message when you run TeamShow:
NT NETDDE: Can't bind to DSDM service.
This may be followed by another error message.
To fix this problem, go to Control Panel - Services, then select
Network DDE DSDM, then click Start.
____________________________________________________________________
6. SmartMaster Looks--Important Information
____________________________________________________________________
The following section contains the following information:
* Multimedia SmartMaster looks
* Switching to multimedia SmartMaster looks
* SmartMaster look color palette
---------------------------------------------------------------
Multimedia SmartMaster Looks
---------------------------------------------------------------
Freelance Graphics 96 Edition ships with several SmartMaster
looks that contain multimedia effects. Some of these
effects are screen show actions attached to the
design objects and "Click here..." blocks. A few also
include animations. These SmartMaster looks start
with the letters "mm". You can create your own multimedia
SmartMaster looks by selecting an object or "Click here..."
block and applying a screen show action.
For more information, see the online help topic
"Attaching actions to objects and text." To display this
topic, choose Help - Help Topics, then click the Index tab,
then type "screen Shows, attaching," then click Display.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Switching to Multimedia SmartMaster Looks
---------------------------------------------------------------
If you switch from a standard SmartMaster look
to a multimedia SmartMaster look (those with "mm"
as a prefix), or change from one multimedia SmartMaster
look to a different multimedia SmartMaster look, the new
multimedia SmartMaster look may overwrite some or all
of the existing multimedia effects. This includes
transitions, "triggers," and any "actions" (such as
running an application, sound, or going to another
page).
---------------------------------------------------------------
SmartMaster Look Color Palette
---------------------------------------------------------------
The color palette structure has changed in
Freelance Graphics 96 Edition to give you greater
control over default colors of objects on the page. If
you plan to create or edit SmartMaster looks, you can
receive two tables that give specific information about
the function of each palette slot. The tables also show
how the Freelance Graphics 2.1 for Windows palettes map to
the Freelance Graphics 96 Edition palettes.
To receive the tables ask for documents 134219 and 134208
from the Fax-On-Demand Services number. To get the fax
number, choose Help - Help Topics, click the Contents tab,
double-click "Troubleshooting,"
then double-click "Contacting customer support."
____________________________________________________________________
7. Animated Clip Art
____________________________________________________________________
Freelance Graphics 96 Edition ships with
animated clip art that can be added to the page
by selecting "Add Movie" from the Create menu.
All animations initally appear in the lower left corner, but
you can move them anywhere on the page.
____________________________________________________________________
8. Removing Earlier Versions of Freelance Graphics
____________________________________________________________________
You can safely remove the following files from previous versions
of Freelance Graphics for Windows:
Under the FLW directory you can delete:
Icons - the entire directory can be deleted
Backup - these can be deleted. However, you may want to
save some of these files in the Freelance Graphics 96
Edition backup directory (backup\flg)
Masters - the entire directory if you have never modified
any of the following files:
*.pal
*.bw
256color.pre
*.sym files that haven't been modified
*.mas files that haven't been modified
Under the Lotusapp directory you can delete:
The entire contents of this directory, if you have never
installed another Lotus application (including Notes and cc:Mail).
Also, you can delete the entire contents of the filters directory,
whether or not you have ever installed another Lotus application.
Under the Windows directory you can delete:
flw*.ini
Lotus.ini (if you have never installed another lotus
application--including Notes & cc:Mmail).

9. Technical Notes on TeamShow
____________________________________________________________________
This section contains the following information:
* Requirements
* Setup advice for running TeamShow over a cable
* Troubleshooting TeamShow
---------------------------------------------------------------
Requirements
---------------------------------------------------------------
TeamShow requires an active network connection between
the two machines. This connection can be achieved
by having both machines on a physical LAN, or a
"virtual network" can be established between the two machines
by means of a third-party utility, such as the "Dial Up Networking"
and "Direct Cable Connection" utilities that ship with Windows 95.
* In order for the Sender and Receiver machines to see each other,
they must have at least one network protocol in common,
and this protocol must support NetBIOS.
* TeamShow supports the following Microsoft-supplied
protocols that ship with Windows 95:
NetBEUI
TCP/IP
IPX/SPX-Compatible Protocol with NetBIOS support installed.
Note: Microsoft's NetBEUI and TCP/IP stacks have NetBIOS built in;
however, the IPX/SPX-compatible protocol does not have it enabled
by default. If you are using IPX/SPX-compatible protocol to
communicate between the two machines, make sure they both have
NetBIOS support.
* Non-Microsoft or real-mode network stacks are not supported with
TeamShow.
* If the two machines are communicating over a physical LAN,
then the protocol or protocols that you choose to have in common
between the two machines must be bound to the physical LAN adapter
in each machine. If you intend to use TeamShow over a modem or
cable, then the protocol or protocols you choose to have in common
must also be bound to the "Dial Up Adapter."
---------------------------------------------------------------
Setup Advice for Running TeamShow Over a Cable
---------------------------------------------------------------
You typically use a direct cable connection when one
machine is a laptop and does not have a LAN card,
or when you are taking a machine to a remote location,
and it is not possible or appropriate to log on to the
LAN in the remote location.
* Follow the instructions in "Overview: Establishing
direct cable networking." To see these instructions choose
Help - Help Topics, click the Index tab,
type "TeamShow, direct", then click the Display.
* TeamShow will work in either direction, regardless of
which machine you make the "guest" and which
machine you make the "host." If you do not need to
have access to network files or resources, to save time,
make the machine that is not connected to a LAN the "host."
* Make sure both machines have at least one protocol in common,
that the protocol supports NetBIOS, and that
it is bound to the dial-up adapter on each machine.
* The cable connection on both machines must be the same--
both parallel or both serial connections.
* Make sure the port you are using for the cable does not
have a conflict (a potential problem with laptops out of
their docking station). For example, if you have an internal
modem or an integrated trackball, make sure that this
device is not using the same IRQ or Com port you are
using for the cable.
* Copying or sharing files over a direct cable connection is
very slow; use disks to share or copy files.
Note: You cannot have an active dial up networking
connection and a direct cable connection at the same time.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Troubleshooting TeamShow
---------------------------------------------------------------
There are three places that the connection may fail:
1. If you are trying to run TeamShow over a modem or cable,
you may fail to establish a dial-up connection over
networking or a direct cable connection.
Consult Microsoft documentation if this problem occurs.
2. The TeamShow Sender may not be able to find the
Receiver's machine on the network.
You will see a message worded:
Cannot find a machine called: <machine-name>
Check the following:
* Is the name of the remote computer correct?
* Is there an active network between the two machines?
* If you are connecting by modem or cable, is it
configured properly to simulate a network, and is the
simulated network currently running between the
two machines?
If these are okay, and you know for certain that
the other machine is running and that you didn't type
in the name wrong, then try using another tool to see
the other machine from the Sender's machine.
For instance, use the Explorer to navigate through the
network neighborhood to the other machine.
If you can't find it in the Explorer, open an MS-DOS
prompt and type "net view \\machine-name", where
"machine-name" is the name you are typing in to the
TeamShow dialog box.
If you are using TeamShow over a cable and the
Sender's machine is the "guest" machine, try clicking on the
"View Host" button in Direct Cable Connection.
If the Sender's machine cannot see the Receiver's machine
using either of these methods, then either the Receiver's
machine is not running, or you made a mistake with the
name, or you do not have an active network running between
the two machines (for instance, direct cable connection or
dial-up networking did not connect properly).
If you can see the machine using one of these other tools but
not with TeamShow, try rebooting both computers and
trying again, or, if you are using a modem or cable, try
reversing the direction in which you are connecting (that is,
change the "guest" to "host" or change the direction in which the
phone call is made; TeamShow can work in either direction.)
3. The Sender's machine may see the Receiver's machine,
but may not be able to establish a NetDDE conversation with
the other machine. If this is the situation, one of the following
will occur:
(a) The Sender or Receiver machine will get a message that begins:
"Transport could not be initialized. If you are using
Freelance Graphics 96 built-in transport..."
Try the solutions suggested in the error message, if you
still do not succeed, consult Microsoft Windows support
or support from your hardware vendor.
(b) You may simply sit on the "Waiting for Receiver" dialog for
a very long time (several minutes) with nothing happening.
If this occurs, then you should first simply retry the operation,
making sure that the Receiver is "waiting for sender to connect"
before you start trying to connect from the sender side. If it still
doesn't work, then try the other troubleshooting options mentioned
above, up to and including rebooting. If you are running over a
cable or modem, try reversing the direction of the virtual network
connection relative to the teamshow connection (i.e., if the sender
was "guest", make it "host"; if the sender was dialing, make the
receiver dial next time).
Microsoft supplies some third-party accessories that use NetDDE.
Hearts is a game that uses NetDDE. If you want to determine
whether the problem lies in NetDDE, install hearts on both
machines. Normally, Hearts allows you to choose to be either
a dealer or to join another game. If both of these options are
dimmed, then either you have no network running, or
your machine does not allow NETDDE to run on a slow
network. If the options are not dimmed, then you can try
to use hearts to connect from one machine to another.
If the connection succeeds, then try TeamShow again.
Note: If you have run TeamShow multiple times over the
same connection, the connection may break down and
TeamShow will cease to execut. If this happens, reboot.
____________________________________________________________________
10. TeamMail and Notes
____________________________________________________________________
You cannot take full advantage of Freelance Graphics 96 TeamMail feature
when using TCP/IP as your primary network connection with Lotus Notes.
You will be able to send a mail message through Freelance under this
setup however, you will not be able to send portions of your
presentation.
