3 UNDERSTANDING THE SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT
==============================================
Whether you install Corel InfoCentral on a network server, on
individual workstations, or use a combination of these methods,
refer to the Software License Agreement contained in the Setup
program for information on using multiple copies of the application.
4 INSTALLING COREL INFOCENTRAL ON A NETWORK
=============================================
The Setup program has been completely revised since the release
of InfoCentral 1.1. A major objective of this revision has
been to make Corel applications easier to install and manage on a
network.
There are two versions of the Setup program on your Corel
Care CD-ROM:
NETSETUP.EXE Network Setup--installs Corel InfoCentral
on a network server. Use Network Setup to
create a shared installation of this
application.
SETUP.EXE Workstation Setup--installs Corel
InfoCentral on a workstation (network
client computer) or on a stand-alone
computer.
Only the network administrator or applications manager should run
NETSETUP.EXE.
4.1 Concepts
------------
The concepts explained below apply to both the Network Setup
program (NETSETUP.EXE) and the Workstation Setup program
(SETUP.EXE). To simplify the discussion, "Setup" refers to both
NETSETUP.EXE and SETUP.EXE unless noted otherwise.
4.1.1 How Setup Works
SETUP.EXE and NETSETUP.EXE start the appropriate version of the
Setup program and then access a setup file (.SET file) to
determine which product-specific setup program to decompress
and run.
ICI7.EXE is the product-specific setup program for Corel
InfoCentral 7. ICI7.EXE displays the Setup dialog boxes,
gathers data about the type of installation you want, copies
files to the network server or workstation, and (for SETUP.EXE)
configures the workstation.
ICI7.EX_ is the name of the compressed version of the
product-specific setup program.
An .IP file is created on the server or workstation when you run
Setup. The .IP file, or installation profile, is a database that
contains definitions of the products installed by Setup.
A .LOG file of the installation process is created.
The APPMAN directory is created. This directory stores files
related to application management and installation.
4.1.2 Setup File
Each Windows(R) 95 office applications suite (Corel WordPerfect
Suite and Corel Office Professional) or stand-alone application
(Corel Presentations, Corel Quattro Pro(R), etc.) has its own setup
(.SET) file. For the US English version of Corel InfoCentral,
the .SET file is named ICI7US.SET. The .SET file determines
which product-specific setup program to run, and it contains
language-specific text strings used by Setup.
After you have run Setup, the .SET file is located in the
COREL\OFFICE7\APPMAN\SETUP directory. You need not be concerned
about .SET files unless you install more than one Corel suite or
stand-alone application on your system. Then you will need to
use the /SETFILE switch when you run Setup to specify which .SET
file to use (and thereby which suite or application to install).
Command line switches are explained later in these release notes.
IMPORTANT: You should not edit or modify a .SET file in any way.
4.1.3 Installation Profile
Setup creates an installation profile (.IP file) on the server or
workstation where you install the applications. The installation
profile is a database that contains definitions of the
applications and components installed on that system.
Only one installation profile exists on each system. Subsequent
installations merge new data into the existing profile. If you
install applications on multiple servers, each server will have
its own installation profile. The installation profile is stored
in the COREL\OFFICE7\APPMAN\PROFILE directory.
For a shared (network server) installation, the administration
profile on the server is NAMADMIN.IP. For workstation and
stand-alone installations, the installation profile on the local
machine is NAM.IP. When a user performs a workstation
installation, Setup uses the server's NAMADMIN.IP file to
determine which applications and components are available to be
installed.
IMPORTANT: You should not edit or modify an installation profile
in any way.
4.1.4 Installation Log File
Setup creates a log file of the installation process. You can
use the log file to troubleshoot problems that may occur during
installation. The log file records different levels of errors or
activities in Setup, depending on the value specified by the
/LOGLEVEL switch when you run Setup. Command line switches are
explained later in these release notes.
The log file for Corel InfoCentral 7 is
COREL\OFFICE7\APPMAN\SETUP\ICI7.LOG.
4.1.5 APPMAN Directory
Setup creates the APPMAN directory for files related to
application management and installation. APPMAN is created in
the COREL\OFFICE7 directory, or the directory you specify as the
Corel Office Applications Main Path when you run Setup.
Under APPMAN, the PROFILE directory contains the installation
profile. The SETUP directory contains the installation log file
and files required to run the Setup and Remove programs. The
WKSFILES directory contains files that are copied to a
workstation's WINDOWS and WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory during a
workstation installation.
4.1.6 Pointer to APPMAN Directory
For a shared (network server) installation, Setup creates a
"pointer" to the server's APPMAN directory. The pointer is a
file or Registry entry that contains the location of the server's
APPMAN directory.
4.1.6.1 NetWare and Windows NT Servers
On a NetWare or Windows NT(TM) server, the pointer is a file
named NAMADMIN.DIR. It is created in the SYS\PUBLIC
directory or NETLOGON share of the server on which you
install the applications. You specify this server on the
Choose Server dialog in Setup.
The NAMADMIN.DIR file is in .INI file format. It looks
something like this:
[Server Installations]
Default=\\appserver\apps\corel\office7\appman
In this example, \\APPSERVER\APPS\COREL\OFFICE7\APPMAN is
the server's APPMAN directory.
IMPORTANT: When you install the applications for the first
time on a NetWare or Windows NT server (or when
you remove the applications from the server),
you must have READ and WRITE access to the
SYS\PUBLIC directory or NETLOGON share.
Otherwise you cannot create (or remove) the
NAMADMIN.DIR file, and you will be unable to
complete the installation (or removal).
IMPORTANT: The pointer and the APPMAN directory must match.
Make sure you choose the same server or drive on
the Choose Server dialog and the Choose
Destination dialog in Setup.
4.1.6.2 Other Servers
For non-NetWare and non-Windows NT server installations, the
pointer to the APPMAN directory is created as the following
Registry entry on the computer from which you run Setup:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\COREL\APPMAN\NAMADMIN.DIR\<server-name>
The value of this Registry entry is the name of the APPMAN
directory: for example, \\APPSERVER\APPS\COREL\OFFICE7\APPMAN.
4.2 Getting Ready to Install
----------------------------
Before you run Network Setup (NETSETUP.EXE) to create a shared
installation of the applications, note the following:
- You need to run the Network Setup program under Windows 95.
This is best accomplished by running NETSETUP.EXE from a
workstation.
- Check the system requirements (see ICWIN7.TXT), and make
sure you have sufficient space on the network drive to which
you want to install. By default, Network Setup installs all
components.
- You must have sufficient rights or privileges to copy,
rename, write, delete, read, and create files and
directories on the network drive.
- Users need rights or privileges to read files and
directories on this drive.
- You should determine how you want to organize the
application files. We recommend installing in the
directories provided by Network Setup because it helps you
organize files and lets you secure individual files or
groups of related files. The default directory structure is
illustrated later in these release notes.
- Setup supports local installations from a network
installation. You should determine whether you want users
to run only local installations, to run the applications
only from the shared network installation, or to make the
choice themselves.
- If you are installing the applications on a peer-to-peer
network, you must install to the destination resource (or
drive) from the user's point of reference. For example, if
the destination resource is \\MY_PC1\F\COREL\OFFICE7, you
must specify \\MY_PC1 on the Choose Server dialog, and
\\MY_PC1\F\COREL\OFFICE7 as the Corel Office Applications
Main Path on the Choose Destination dialog. This is best
accomplished by installing from a workstation to the server.
IMPORTANT: You must have only one Corel Office Applications Main
Path per server. You can run Setup more than once,
for example, to install the suite and then to
install the bonus applications. However, for each
server, you must specify the same Server or Drive
Name (on the Choose Server dialog) and the same Corel
Office Applications Main Path (on the Choose
Destination dialog) each time you install to that
server.
4.3 Installing on a Network Server
----------------------------------
Although the program files are not compressed on the CD-ROM, you
must use the Network Setup program (NETSETUP.EXE) to install the
applications on a network server. Otherwise, the product will
not be configured properly.
NOTE: You do not have to remove earlier program versions, such
as InfoCentral 1.1, before installing Corel InfoCentral 7.
The Setup program does not overwrite or remove pre-Windows 95
versions of the application.
IMPORTANT: You must run the Setup program under Windows 95.
Corel InfoCentral 7 runs only on Windows 95. It
does not run on Windows NT.
To install the applications on a network server,
1 Make sure the network drive on which you want to install is
available.
2 Insert the Corel Care CD into the CD-ROM drive.
If the Auto-Run window starts up, click the Exit button.
3 Click Start > Run on the Windows Taskbar.
4 Type the name of the CD-ROM drive, followed by NETSETUP.
Then click OK.
For example, to install from drive D, type the following:
D:\NETSETUP
5 Follow the on-screen prompts to finish installing the
applications.
4.4 Installing on a Workstation
-------------------------------
Once you have installed Corel InfoCentral on a network server,
users can perform workstation installations from their own
workstations. A workstation installation (also called Run from
Network installation) configures the user's Windows desktop to
run the applications from the network server.
NOTE: The steps below are addressed to the workstation user.
IMPORTANT: Corel InfoCentral 7 runs only on Windows 95. It
does not run on Windows NT.
From your workstation,
1 Connect to the network location specified by your network
administrator. (Write down the network location. You will
need it in step 4.)
2 Click Start > Settings > Control Panel on the Windows
Taskbar.
3 Double-click Add/Remove Programs, then click Install > Next.
4 Click Browse, then look in the network location you
connected to in step 1 (for example, M:\COREL\OFFICE7).
5 Click Corel InfoCentral 7 Setup (or IC7Setup on systems
that do not support long filenames), then click Open.
6 Click Finish, then follow the on-screen prompts to finish
installing the applications.
5 COMMAND LINE SWITCHES
=======================
There are several command line switches you can use with
NETSETUP.EXE and SETUP.EXE.
/ILA=language-code
Identifies the language to be used for the interface (dialog
boxes) of the Setup program.
/LOGLEVEL=level
Specifies the level of logging to be done by the Setup program.
Specify one of the following levels:
Level Description
----- -----------
0 Fatal errors
1 Critical errors
2 Warnings
3 Informational messages
4 Success messages
Each level includes the messages or errors of the lower levels.
The default logging level is 2, which logs warnings, critical
errors, and fatal errors.
/NOICONS
For SETUP.EXE only. Suppresses the creation of icons during a
workstation or stand-alone installation. For example, use this
switch when installing under Novell Application Launcher (NAL) so
that NAL can control the icons.
/SETFILE=setup-file
Identifies the .SET file to be used for this installation. Use
this switch if you have more than one Corel application suite
installed on the same drive. Specify the full path name of the
.SET file, and enclose the path name in quotation marks.
For example, if you have both Corel WordPerfect and Corel
InfoCentral installed on network drive X:, you would specify
/SETFILE="X:\COREL\OFFICE7\APPMAN\SETUP\ICI7US.SET" to run the
Corel InfoCentral 7 Setup program.
/RSPFile=response-file
Identifies the response file used to control a /SILENT
installation. Specify the full path name for the response file.
Response files (.RSP) are text files that are created each time
Setup is run. When used with the /SILENT switch, a response file
automatically responds to the Setup dialogs without requiring
user input.
To create a response file, run Workstation Setup and select the
options you want. At the Ready to Install dialog, click Exit >
Yes > OK. A file named ICI7.RSP is created in your Windows\Temp
(or %TMP) directory. Rename this file if you don't want it to be
overwritten the next time you run Setup.
/SILENT
Suppresses the Setup dialogs. Requires the /RSPFile switch. Use
this switch to run Setup with no user interaction.
/WORKSTATION
For SETUP.EXE only. Runs the Workstation Setup program to set up
the applications on a workstation (network client computer).
Normally the user would not use this switch directly. Instead,
the user should follow the steps under Installing on a
Workstation above, or double-click the Corel InfoCentral 7
Setup icon in the Office7 directory on the server. (If the
server does not support long filenames, the icon will be labeled
IC7Setup.)
6 COREL INFOCENTRAL DIRECTORY STRUCTURE
=========================================
Installing applications in the default directory structure is
recommended because it helps you organize files and lets you
secure individual files or groups of related files.
The following sections illustrate the default directory structure
for Corel InfoCentral 7.
6.1 Network Directory Structure
-------------------------------
The default directory structure for a network installation of
Corel InfoCentral 7 includes the following subdirectories
under Corel\Office7:
AppMan---+-Admin
+-Profile
+-Setup
+-Wksfiles
ICWin7---+-Local----+-iBases---+-Template
Shared---+-Address7-+-Database
+-Help7
+-PFit7
6.2 Workstation Directory Structure
-----------------------------------
The default directory structure for a workstation installation of
Corel InfoCentral 7 (also called Run from Network installation)
includes the following subdirectories under the Corel\Office7
directory:
AppMan---+-Profile
+-Setup
Shared---+-Address7-+-Database
+-PFit7
7 NOTE FOR USERS OF VLMs
========================
You may encounter problems running Corel InfoCentral 7 under
NetWare(R) Client v1.2 for DOS and Windows (VLMs). According to
Novell's "NTS Statement on System Support issues related to
Windows 95,"
"Because NetWare Client v1.2 for DOS and Windows are
considered interim solutions to NetWare Client 32(tm) for
Windows 95, Novell will not be providing engineering support
(ie: bug fixes) for these products."
If you have problems running these applications under NetWare Client
v1.2 for DOS and Windows, Novell recommends that you upgrade to
NetWare Client 32 for Windows 95.
